My grandfather, Abraham Flax, was one of eight children of Hatskell (Charles) and Bedana (Bessie) Flax from Lithuania. The original name was Flaks. Contact me if you think this sounds familiar. Our family settled in Baltimre in the late 1800's and some moved on to Richmond.

David FLAX, spouse of JANE MCDOWELL - Pasadena, CA

I am looking for information regarding David Flax, who married my great-grandmother's sister, Jane McDowell.

Jane was originally born in Pennsylvania. In my great-grandmother's obituary (1947) from Fall River, MA, it mentions that Elizabeth (McDowell) Sears is survived by "her sister, Mrs. David Flax, of Pasadena, California."

In the 1930 census, there is a David Flax working in South Pasadena at the Raymond Hotel. He is 40, born in Maryland, and married. Oddly enough, the census takers took the census of the hotel employees - how many of them lived on site, I don't know. I believe this is Jane's husband.

I would be appreciative of anyone who might have more information. I may be reached at saricher@usa.net.

Sandra
I don't know if I am related to the people you asked about. I'm sorry. All the relatives named Flax that I have ever known are deceased except for my cousin Pauline(Polly). She has our family bible with the names of our grandfather(Nathan) and his brothers and sisters. One of whom is named Louis Flax. The three brothers immigrated from Russia to Spain to the U.S. This information came from my uncle Liebman before he died. I believe that Harry and Louis lived in Baltimore at one time. A Morris Flax the son of one of them and according to him he was a cousin of my father's.He(Morris) said at that time that he remembered visiting my father's family in Olive Hill, KY when they were young. What do you think?
Sally (Sarah Flax) Mueh

Hi, Cousin!

Sure we're related. Sam was my Grandpa Herman's brother. He was married to my Aunt Fanny. I knew her and had spent time with her but do not remember him.

I invited Leonard and Kate to my daughter's Bat Mitzvah which is happening this weekend, December 16, but somehow did not get David's address in time to invite. I once had brunch with him when I was working for Jerry Flax and he had come into town. My Mom, Lita, made sure we all knew the cousins. Of late, I had not been in touch with him... or most people for that matter.
I have actually seen him a few times in my life. I'm so glad you answered the message I had left and can't beleive it took so long. I put that message up a while ago.

I am married to Yoram Meromy and we have Leah and Yael, soon-to-be-13 and 10 years old. Living in San Francisco. Grandma Sylvia, Herman's wife just turned either 99 or 100 on Nov. 30, depending on who you ask. Your Mom is Carol, right?

Write back and you can always do it by e-mail direct at jodimeromy@bigplanet.com.

Thanks, Cousin.

Jodi

I stumbled upon this website for family trees and I looked up my name, but I did not come up on it. Another Beth Flax came up on it who I have never heard of. I was just wondering what the deal was and if myself and any of these other Flax's on the message board are related.

If yes, please let me know and I'll be happy to get you in touch with them.

The Flax and Edelson families are well known on St. Thomas and Virgin Gorda. It's a big family.
My maiden name is Flax. My grandfather was Nathan Flax. He had brothers Louis and Harry and two sisters Katie and Anna. One of my fathers cousins, Morris Flax, came from Norfolk, VA in the early 1950's to Cincinnati on business and stopped to visit us. That's all that I know ! What do you think? My grandfather and his brothers immigrated from Russia through Spain according to my uncle who is now dead. Louis and Harry lived at one time in Baltimore.
