Thank you for replying.
Do you know when The second Harry Fleisher that you mentioned married Marjorie? I was also curious if he was a serviceman. I have records of my grandmother's mother(Florence Marie Bowcott) immigrating from Canada in 1918 entering the US via Detroit Mi. All we heard said in regards to Grandma's birth is she was born in Flint Michigan.. It is odd that his wife was Marjorie and that is the name of my grandmother.. There are no others with that name, except for my cousin.

Do you know of an older gentleman that went by "Popp" I have a photo that I need to locate that rings a bell. Once I find it I will let you know.

Wow, with all this now getting more confusing. I know for a fact that I will do everything I can to keep the current family info up to date to prevent a lot of confusion for my decendants.

Tammy

Hi Tammy,

This case is kind of confusing.
I have a Harry FLEISHER b. 1885 in NY living in MI in 1930.
His parents were born in Austria.
He is married to a Marjorie b. 1892 in Louisiana.
There are no children with them.

I also have a Harry FLEISHER b. 12-1896 in MI.
His parents are John S. and Sally FLEISHER born in PA and MI.
Harry’s grandparents were Francis and Rebecca FLEISHER both born in PA.

This second Harry and the Marjorie above are both the right age to have a girl in 1919.

I realize that this does not match exactly your information. But the references to MI and the name Marjorie are real teasers.
Hello, My name is Tammy and I was wondering if you had a Harry Fleisher within your family tree. I have located my grandmother's marriage record and it informs me that her father's name was Harry Fleisher. Unknown Birthplace. No age, just a name. My grandmother, Marjorie Kathleen , was born in 1919. We have conflicting birth locations mentioed. Her death cert states Michigan and her marriage license mentions Illinois. Her mother was Florence Marie Bowcott, born in 1901 in England.Came from Canada in 1918 to Michigan
With her birth year being what it was, I am wondering if he might have been in the sevice?. Any help would be appreciated. Thank you in advance.
Tammy

P.S. Enjoy the family reunion

Greetings! I'm hoping someone out there might be able to provide additional info on two siblings of Elizabeth (nee STEDWELL) FLESHER. The 1851 census for Artemesia, Grey County, shows Ann and John STEDWELL as having daughters named Eliza b. 1849 and Elizabeth b. 1851. (Rather unusual.) It seems from the info provided on this list, that Elizabeth married William FLETCHER. My own research indicates that Eliza married George McGRUTHER and then Henry GREEN. Their brother William STEDWELL and his wife Barbara WATERSON moved to Fort William in North-Western Ontario sometime between 1897 and 1901.

Thanks much!
In the Flesherton cemetery where William Henry Flesher is buried beside his mother, Jane Foster Flesher, the dates for him are shown as 1856- 1898. When we visited the grave about 20 years ago, we knew there was something wrong with the dates we saw, since William Henry (known as Harry) was my husbands gtand-father and had not died as a child. We got a brush and carefully brushed over the dates and found the above ones, which agreed with the ones recorded in the records kept by the family.

Dorothy Flesher re: Flesher family in New Zealand

Hi Dorothy, thanks so much for your messages on RootsWeb - my family of Fleshers come from the Far North, Hokianga in New Zealand - I have a Jack Flesher from Flesherton, Ontario whom's parents were William Kingston Flesher and Jane Foster. Jack married a Tare Doris Wikaira and had three children: Willie (William) male, Olive aka Lovey female and Benjamin male. Willie and Olive were born in Maryborough near Bundaberg, Australia and Ben was born in New Zealand (he died at the age of 33). Olive had 7 kids - doris, jean, annie, edna, donald, eva and george. We know that the father to doris is Hokena Selwyn or Herewini. Here in NZ, the Flesher family have their own family meeting house and there is a tribe of them. Doris married Conrad Gulliver King (my granddad) and had 8 or 9 kids. Those kids have a tribe...of children. I come from Conrad's 1st wife, altogether there is 17 kids but as far as they are concern they are all one family. As I am the family geneologist, I have been asked to find information about Jack's parents - so I would like to make contact with you. Look forward to hearing from you, Lei-Anne

Hi! Sharyn
It seems the early families intermarried quite a bit. I have a Capt. John Seaman b. 1604 m. Elizabeth England in 1644 in Fairfield Conn. Their daughter Elizabeth England married James Jackson 1694. the last date may not be accurate but his father was John Jackson b.1647 a Colonel his father Robert Jackson b.1620 Now these guys were immigrants from Scotland. then I hae an unknown Jackson b.1600 or his name is Richard but his info does not match up. Now Robert married into the Washbourne line which goes wayyyyy back to1300's. Just a little info. Would be cool if we were cousins.heehee Now the Doty line is spelled different each generation like Edward's father is John Douty and his father was John Doughty if info is correct. After all these years and research someone must know for sure Edwards line as he was an indentured sevant on the Mayflower. carolyn

I have a little information. William Flesher is on the 1880 census for Grayson County, Texas. with children Thomas, Elbert and Estella May Flesher He has a second wife named Mary and stepchildren ven B. George, Ell George and Ola Ann George and a brother-in-law named Jamee Rose. The 1870 census for Quincy, Hickory County, Missouri, shows him as a merchant married to a woman named Jane with children Thomas and Elbert Flesher. I understand the Fleshers intermarried with the Dodsons who were fromLaRue County, Kentucky and many of them migrated north to Pottawatomire County, Okla after thr turn of the century. Thomas B. Flesher and his wife Mattie Dodson are buried with various family members at the Fairview Cemetery near Harjo, Oklahoma in Pottawatomie County. The cemetery is online.

Their names were, Minnie, Edward, Nelly, Harris and Hilda. Eventually Mary Jane divorced Walter, and he went on to marry Martha Elizabeth and they had a daughter Annie Elizabeth.

Nelly went on to marry someone by the surname of Flesher. As you say, the parents of the 'Flesher' children died and they were brought up by their Airton grandparents and they changed their name.

There are two men, who are cousins, and they live in Canada. One is named Eric Airton, and the other Granville Airton. I cannot remember if they are both from the Flesher line, but I do know that Granville is definitely one of the Fleshers.

I hope this helps somewhat.

Regards
Frances

William Flesher and Elizabeth Stedwell were my great grandparents.I have the family bible of Wm. and Elizabeth beginning with thier marriage in 1868. I believe that William was one of four orphaned children of William Flesher and Mary Levitt. I would appreciate any information on this plus William's connection to William K Flesher (possibly his uncle) .I understand that W.K brought the four boys ,William,Thomas,John and ? to Flesherton and assisted in their upbringing. I believe that William and Mary Flesher died of some plague within days of each other in England.

Her parents were Ann and John Stidwill. Their children were Beatrice Mary b.14 Dec 1869 d.10 Apr 1897,
Prudence Ann b.5 Dec 1871 d.5 Oct 1928,
Bertha Jane b. 13 Jan 1875 d. ?
Lillian Maude b. 6 July 1877 d.23 July 1969
Alice Gertrude b. 12 Jan 1880 d.?
Mabel Edith 16 June 1885 d. 11 Nov 1978
William Chester Levitt b.30 Apr 1888 d. 14 Feb 1889
John Percival b. 7 Sept 1889 d. ?
My grandmother was Mabel Edith. She married Thompson Milton Plewes, also from an old Flesherton/Markdale family, on 30 Sept 1908 We have more information re marriages etc.
We believe that Wm Flesher and his brothers Thomas,John and ? were orphaned sons of Wm. and Mary (Levitt) Flesher and nephews of Wm Kingston Flesher, but there is some family lore that they may have been the children of Wm K. from a marriage in England.
We would really appreciate any additional information regarding the family and especially the link between Wm. K. and Wm. Flesher
We are just beginning our reseach and would appreciate any tips you could offer.

I have completed more research and John Stidwell, father of Elizabeth 1850, was the son of William and Elizabeth Stidwell of Cookbury, Devon.
John was the uncle of John, Samuel and William who emigrated to the USA and Ontario in the 1870's and half brother of Frederick in Ohio.
I have more information on the family in England if anyone interested.
In particular, I'd like to hear from a descendant of Frederick.
Flesher/Fleisher Highland Co., VA

I am looking for information concerning the Solomon Flesher/Fleisher family, specifically information concerning son Paul.

I have information that a Paul Flesher/Fleisher fathered a son (Dewey) with Emma Barkley (dau of James W and Leah (Teter) Barkley of Pendleton Co., WV.) in 1899. Can find no info for Paul other than he may have been part of the Solomon Fleisher family. Dewey's Birth record states that Paul was born in Monterey, VA and was abt 26 when Dewey was born - puts Paul born abt 1873 - not the 1867 I have found in other records. Emma and Paul never married.

In addition, can find no census record of Dewey until 1920 living with Jake L. Simmons in Upshur Co., WV at age 21. So, have no idea who raised him.

Any information would be greatly appreciated. Thank you in advance for your help!
