Wendy,
Hello, My grandmother Elna Elvira Wernblad and your great great grandmother Victoria Carolina Wenblad Hultzen were half sisters. Their father was Johan Magnus Wernblad. Johan stayed in Sweden when his parents Sven and Elna came to America with their daughters. My grandmother emigrated from Varnamo Sweden when she was about 11 years old, by herself, and lived in Brooklyn NY with her half sister, Laura Henrietta Wenblad, I believe. I am sure she knew Gus Thorne. I just happened to come across your posts, although it is 7 years later. Did you know your grandfather Gus Thorne at all? I know my grandmother mentionned him years ago. He passed away I believe in 1975, My grandmother passed away in 1979.
Take care,
Alice Cameron Goczkowski

The family of the deceased desire to thank the neighbors and friends for the kindness bestowed upon them during their sore affliction.
Flick, Jonas Obituary, Clarion Co, PA

Clarion Democrat March 12, 1903 - Mr. Jonas Flick, one of the most prominent citizens of Toby township, as well as one of the its oldest residents, died at hime home near Rimersburg, Tuesday, March 3, 1903, aged 78 years. On February 22, Mr. Flick sustained a stroke of paralysis which, notwithstanding a naturally robust constitution, resulted in his death as stated. Mr. Flick was most highly esteemed by all his neighbors and all who knew him as an honorable and upright man in all the relations of life, and the community has suffered a distinct loss by his demise. He was married to Miss Julia Ann Polliiard over 50 years ago and she still survives with five children, as follows: J.C. and D.M. Flick, of Coraopolis; B.S. and J.B. Flick, and Mrs. Mary B. Stevens of Rimersburg. He also leaves 9 grandchildren. Mr. Flick has for many years been a consistent and faithful member of the Reformed church, exemplifying by his life what he believed. He was a member of long standing of the Independent Order of Odd Fellows, being a member of the Iron County Lodge of Rimersburg, in which order he was held in high esteem. The funeral service were conducted by his pastor Rev. F.M. Line, after which the remains were taken in charge of the Odd Fellows and were deposited to theirlast resting place with the ritual ceremonies of that order, the interment being in Rimersburg cemetery.

Clarion Democrat - March 19, 1903 - After an illness of not more than a week, Mr. Jonas Flick, one of the most respected citizens of Toby township, passed peacefully away in the presence of his family in the seventy-ninth year of his age, on Tuesday, March 3rd, 1903. He was a man who has held the respect and confidence of all his neighbors and did what he could to make life brighter for those around him. He was a true Christian gentleman, ever exemplifying in his life the spirit and life of the Master whom he so long and faithfully served. He was a member of the Reformed church for fifty-seven years and served his church in the capacity of Elder and Deacon. He was quiet in disposition, yet firm of purpose and standing at all times for what he believed to be right. He was a man who loved his church, his God, and made an effort always to be in his place when opportunity afforded and when health permitted, so that he will be missed by those who knew and loved him. But what is our loss is his gain. And, too, his influence on the lives of others will still live on. The funeral service took place on Thursday, March 5th and was held in the Reformed church, Rimersburg, Pa., Rev. F.M. Line, his pastor, officiating.
Re: Flick Family in New Orleans, Louisiana

Yes you are related to these Flicks. I have Lloyd Alonzo Flick, born January 14, 1897 and died 1928 in Louisiana. He was the son of Peter Joseph Flick (aka "Joe") and Betty Weibel. Betty Weibel was the daughter of Oscar Weibel and Rosa Flick. Peter Joseph Flick and Rosa Flick were the children of Ferdinand Flick and Mary Anne Gobin. Betty Weibel and Oscar Weibel were the children of Oscar Weibel (b. 1832 Germany) and Cecelia Halberstadt (b. 1831 Germany). Oscar and Cecelia Weibel had at least 3 children: Jennie (b. 1854 She married an unknown Stevenson), Oscar (b. about 1867), and Cecelia (b. 1869).

Oscar Weibel and Rosa Flick had 3 children only 1 of which was alive in 1900: Loretta Pauline (b. March 1896. She was married but died at about the age of 21 and was expecting her first child at the time of her death), Oscar A. (born and died 1897), and Baby Boy Weibel (died in infancy). Oscar Weibel was a blacksmith, ran a bar, sold cigars and ran a butcher shop with his brother John Ferdinand Flick. Rosa Flick ran a restaurant at the back of the saloon and sold merchandise from a window on Tulane Avenue.

Joe and Betty Flick had 3 children: Lloyd A. Flick, Joseph W. Flick (b. 1902 d. 1918), and Cecile Flick (lived in New York and had to be institutionalized). Oscar Weibel and his sister Betty had a double wedding with Rosa Flick and Peter Joseph Flick in 1894.

Much of this information comes from my late mother in law, Elleta Lindsay Flick who wrote a family history in 1971. The only other descendants of this family, as far as I know, reside in Richmond, Virginia and in Mississippi.

More than likely Catharina Flick was born and baptized 2 Jul 1829 in Herxheim-Landau, Bavaria, dau of Georgius Franciscus Flick and Katharina Heider. The 1860 and 1870 census of Hamilton Co., OH gives her birthplace as Bavaria and in 1880
she was 51 years old. Her brother Valentine married in Cincinatti in 1856.
I've never found a listing for a Margaret (Peggy) Flick as part of the family although she may have been a sister of Christopher Flick, Sr.

The Paeter and Christian Flake you found in Nelson County, Kentucky are Johannes Peter Flick and Christopher Flick, Sr.

Peter and Christopher either moved or the county was divided to Bullit County, Kentucky.
Second wife of Christopher Flick, Sr. may have also been Susanne Collins.
We're not sure. We have never been able to find the name of his first wife and Chris, Jr. mother. 1790 census shows him living in Redstone, Pennsylvania.

Pastor Christopher Flick, Jr. and Mary (Polly) Cox were married in Nelson Co., Kentucky in 1810. They migrated to Orange County, Indiana in March
1816 to plant Cane Creek Christian Church outside of French Lick, IN. It is still in operation. Peter Flick died in Kentucky and Christopher, Sr.
migrated to Indiana sometime in the 1820s. If you want pictures of tombstones, please reply directly and I will e-mail. I am a direct descendant.
gdflick@localline.com

I am looking for info onthe following:

a Peggy (maybe Margaret) Flick.

& her family with Henry Davis (some data shows her to have married Henry Davis on March 9, 1810 in Nelson Co., KY). I have seen her surname as Flick, Flock, Fluk, Flake. & that her father may have been Christopher Flake/Fleck/Flack.

There also appears to have been a marriage of a Mary Flack (daughter of a "Cristan" Flack) to a William Davis in 1808 in Nelson Co., KY.

There are a Chrisopher Flake and a Peter Flake on the Nelson Co., KY tax records 1792-1794.

Also, there appears to have been a second marriage of a Christopher Flick (b. 3-28-1756, PA & died 7-5-1939 in Orleans, Orange Co., IN)) to a Susannah Collison on 3-14-1797 in KY.

Henry Davis (b. abt 1790, KY) is reported to be the son of Henry Davis (b. 1760, Lancaster, PA, & died aft 1809 Nelson Co., KY) and Mary Gross (b. abt 1757, Lancaster, PA).

Any info ref. any of these would be mosy welcome.
Re: DAR

The name is very popluar, probably due to the family being serving under George Washington during the Revolution and being part of the Masons. So far I've found out from my cousin that there are about three or four George Washington Flicks over the years (that took a bit, the book I have is pretty big). The George Washington Flick I'm the descendant of is the son of Henry and Louisa Flick because his wife was a Schonenberger and that is where I get my second tie to the Lenape Indians because she was one or was half, it's just know around the area that they were 'Indians'. Also, my great-grandfather was Frank James Flick. For the DAR I've got all of my papers because we've stayed in the area, I went/go to school with at least 10 of my cousins, that I know of. I've even had teachers who were my cousins. Living in the same place for 250+ years can have its pros and cons.

Something that I find interesting is that because of the Schonenbergers and the wife of our first American ancestor, that in a lot of my family members and in pictures of my great-grandfather and Pappy, is that you can pick out the high cheekbones of the Native American in them. Another thing is that I've been told of ties to the Hapsburgs, which makes sense if you look at some of the pictures of my family. I've now become very interested in looking at old photos and picking out the physical traits. I know my cousin is looking into that for me because I have college to attend to.

I forgot to add...the Joseph Flick you refer to, son of John "Casper" Flick and Elizabeth "Betsy" Foulk was born Joseph Paul Flick on June 4 1795 in Allen Twp, Northampton, PA, christened Aug 25, 1793 in Clarion Co, PA, married Catherine Elizabeth Wilson and then Hannah Smith, and died April 22, 1864 He is buried in Clarion Co, PA. He was known as "fighting Joe." He had at least seven children: Elizabeth, William H, Mary, Margaret "Peggy", Joseph Paul Jr, John, and Casper. There may have been other children, but I have not been able to get sufficient documentation on the others to be sure. There are other children living in his household in various census records. Nearly all his children moved to Minn and Wisc. Let me know if you have specific questions. Jodi

Admirallee...
There are quite a few George Washington Flicks, but none that I know of with the dates of birth and death you listed. Two GW Flicks are related to the Gerlach "Paul" Flick line: GW b 1846 in Northampton Co PA, son of Henry Flick and Louisa Miller d 1919 buried in Bath, married Hannah Schonenberger. Had 12 kids: Robert Wm, Lillie, Alice Jesevia, Hannah Savilla, Wilson Eugene, Harrison G, Paul Henry, Viola Rebecca, John, Emma Amelia, Mary Rosa and Frank James.

The second is GW Flick b 1847 in Clarion Co, son of Casper Flick and Nancy Mariah Smith, married Matilda ---, died 1914, buried Kellersberg Cen in Clarion Co PA, had two chldren: James Clinton and Minerva.

If you let me know what information you are looking for, I'll be glad to help. I don't know how much of it I can help you with because I'm descended from Gerlach Paul Flick's youngest son Gerlach Paul Flick Junior and our family hasn't moved around much so all of our stuff was at the county courthouse in Northampton County, Pennsylvania. My mom's cousin Jimmy did from Gerlach Paul Flick to 1990 when I was born.

This is the info I have:

Johan Christian Flick-1701, Prussia, Germany
Gerlach Paul Flick- dob. March 7th, 1728 / dod. January 20th, 1826
John Casper Flick- dob. June 22, 1758 / dod. 1840
Joseph Flick- dob. June 4 1795 and that's all I have until I come across George Washington Flick.

George Washington Flick- dob. 1812 / dod. 1885

Then I lose it again.
Yes, both Gerlach Paul Flick & John Caspar Flick were Revolutionary War patriots, but I joined the DAR under John Caspar as 99.99% of Flick family DAR members join under Gerlach Paul. Only one or two have ever joined under John Caspar. I wanted something different!

I also got the Flick family DAR line started for John Caspar's son Charles, which now makes it easier for others to join under Charles, his son Jacob, & my gg-grandmother Augusta Malvina Flick, a line no one had previously used.

Sherrie Rice Smith

dareldy04,
I think I may have found the person you are looking for, but I do not have clear connection between the two yet. There is an Andrew R. Flick, b c1845 married c1878 to Emma Mittenbarger, b 1855. In the Rockingham Co, Va census of 1910, they are listed with children: Charlie K, Sarah, Cora M, Dora F, J. Henry, Alma C, Robert F and Ed W. This certainly corresponds to the names that you said your grandmother remembers. Please contact me and let share our thoughts and work on this family.
Hello! My mother-in-law is Addie Ruth Flick Wallace, the granddaughter of John Henry Flick. She often spoke of her Aunt Refa! My mother-in-law believes John Henry's mother's name was Mathilda Muelenbacher, and his father's name was Andrew Flick. She has mentioned Dane, Josephine and John Henry as the names of their children.

John Henry Flick is my Great-Grandfather. I am looking for info on names for the same period, but my father told me stories about him. I know they also had a son John Andy Flick (my Grandfather). He and Carl (Carl Journey Flick) both died in Charlottesville, VA in 1980.

I see this post is old, but here goes anyway. John Andy Flick and Elizabeth Terrell were my grandparents. Their son, John Henry Flick is my father. Are you related or have other information?

Mary Ann, I attempted to reach you via email but it bounced back so I'm posting here in hopes that you - or someone else - can offer some help.

I'm researching my husband's Flick line and am at a cracked brick wall at John Harvey Flick. I say "cracked" because I think his parents were Edward Flick (possibly referred to as "ECL Flick") and Ann Hale but I'm not positive. Also Edward's parents may have been John M.N. Flick and Ann M Flick. Ann Hale's parents were probably Juo (John?) and Jane Hale. IF the parents and grandparents are correct, then the crack can give way and the wall can fall.

My John Harvey was born 10 Aug 1875 in Giles County Virginia. He married Virginia "Jenny" Louisa Caldwell on 1 Sept 1896 in Mercer County WV. John and Jenny had 12 or 13 children and the family lived in Mercer County for a time. They then moved to Russell County Virginia and finally settled in Fayette County PA.

I'd greatly appreciate any help you can give.

Hi nice to find someone else working on the Flick family history. I am a grandaughter of Refa Flick Blakely. She has given me some info about what she remembers. She did tell me that she had always heard John Henry's wife called Emma or Emily. So maybe that was a middle name instead of her first name I haven't heard anything about Matilda. I did find Them on a census record with what I believe to be Maltida's or Emma's mother-in-law living with them and her last name was Miltenberger. She was only listed as M Miltenberger.

So nice to find someone else looking for information on John Henry Flick. My grandmother is Refa Flick Blakely.

She has told me what little information that she knows. They seemed to move around a lot they did have a son named Carl I also know that they had several children that died shortly after birth or were stillborn. Their names were Lena, Samuel, and Mary. My grandmother didn't have any information on them since it was so long before she was born. They all died around 1905 I think. Carl and Al Journey are two different people. Journey is who they called Dane. I have one pic of John Henry and his wife that I got from my grandmother. I also believe that I have a pic of The other children that survived including John, Carl, Henry, Dane, Paul, and my grandmother Refa. She was the only living daughter.

John Flick

September 18, 1896 Cambria Freeman newspaper Ebensburg, Pa.
Mr. John Flick, one of the oldest residents of Carrolltown, died at his home in that place on Thursday, evening of last week, aged about 83 years.
He was born in Alsace, France, on July 22, 1813, and came to America at the age of eighteen and located in Cambria county, which since then had been his permanent home. In earlier days he learned the trade of stone cutting, which he followed until he had reached middle age, at which time, having acquired possession of considerable land in the vicinity of his adopted home, he betook to farming, in which he had been eminently sucessful. In 1840 he was united in marriage to Miss Elizabeth Sharbaugh. Of this union eleven children have been born two of whom have died-Mrs. Jennie Buck and Mrs. Sebastian Luther. The surviving members of the family are: Albert, of Moundsville, West Virginia; Dr. Lawrence, of Philadelphia; John R., Edward H., and Isidore of Altoona; and Mrs. Chrysostom Luther, Mrs. John Hogue, both of Carrolltown; Mrs. Paul Sharp, of Altoona; and Miss Rosina, now Sister Mary Louis, of Pittsburg, a member of the Order of the Sisters of Charity. He is also survived by six brothers, all of whom reside in this county; 52 grandchildren and great grandchildren numbering twenty. His remains were interred in Benedict's cemetary at Carrolltown, on Monday morning.

Dear Jodi, You and I corresponded a LONG time ago re our common ancestry. Is your e-mail address the same as it was then? Mine hasn't changed (but I am a lot older!). Your ncestor, Charles, was a brother of my ancestor, John. Both were sons of John Casper Flick. I'm glad to see you are still at it.
