I too am a Flinkman and I was told by my grandmother that our family originated in Finland and that they were loggers. She told me that two brothers came to America. One went north, and we later found his relatives in Canada. The other went to New York and apparently our relatives came from this line. My grandfather, Ellis Flinkman, came to Baltimore (I don't know what generation actually moved here) and my father and my siblings are also Baltimore natives, although my father now lives in Florida.

I've seen the name Flinkman attached to several people in Finland, so I think the story my grandmother told me holds some weight.

I'd love to know more and actually be able to trace my roots back to one of these brothers from Finland.

Thanks,
Susan Flinkman

Hi,
in 1930 he seems to be a widower and in 1928 married. Wonder who has been his wife then? The one in Finland or someone else in USA?
You have really been of great help. Without you I would not have found this.

Thanks,
Heli

Hi,

Interesting! That might the right person. After Hilda Amalia left the States, Selim promised to return soon to Finland. He did not. Now I am not sure if they had any connection after that but at least we do not know what happened. Hilda Amalia died in 1949.
Once I get home, I will check some things and return.

Rgds,
Heli

Hi,
Yes, they did, Fanny, Lauri and Impi. They had a visa for only 2,5 years and after that mother Hilda Amalia Flinkman (born 10 Nov 1874) came back to Finland with the children and my grandmother was born here in Feb 1907. Hilda Amalia was pregnant when she left, so that would have been 1906.

Heli

Alicia,

Thank you. I did talk to Steve Flinkman of Havertown, and he denied being the right Steven Flinkman of South Philly that owns 2522 Grays Ferry Ave., which I would like to buy.

So if you have any idea where this branch of the Flinkman family is, I would love to know. They reputedly had a pharmacy in South Philly on Moyamensing Ave. Steve bought the lot in 1972.

Thanks again.

Lisa Parsley
215-735-2013

PS please feel free to forward my number to a Flinkman that may hold the answer to this mystery.
Debbie,

I have information for you. The Jewish Flinkmans appear to have originated in the US in Philadelphia. Specifically, there was a family of Flinkmans in South Philly that owned a pharmacy on Moyamenssing Ave. Please forgive my spelling of Moyamenssing.

Although I am not a Flinkman, I had cause to find your relatives when hired to search for a Steve Flinkman, who owes a parcel of land on Grays Ferry Ave in South Philly. I was hired by a contractor who wants to buy it.

So I talked to the Flinkmans of Pennsylvania, and they denied a connection, but knew of the family. They referred me to relatives in Santa Monica, CA, who confirmed a South Philly, Jewish Flinkman relationship, but who had no knowledge of Steve.

Steve bought the property in 1972, and sold another property here in Philly in 1994. After that time, there appears to be no record of him.

If you have ANY information on Steve or the Jewish Philadelphia Flinkmans who may be related to him, please let them know that they can assert title of this property.

Call me at 215-735-2013.

Thanks,

Lisa Parsley

Flinkman ancestry

HI

As far as I know, Flinkmans do have quite a bit of history here in Finland. I have been able to find some entries in local church records, which date as far back as to late 18th century.

What I have heard from my parents is, that there should be at least two lines of Flinkmans. And, that some of our ancestry might be traced back to Germany. Unfortunately I cant´t verify any of this information.

Please, check http://www.genealogia.fi It´s a genealogy-specialized site in Finland, and it has also english version.

Flinkman relatives of Jewish descent

I'm looking for relatives of Lewis Flinkman,
who lived in Philadelphia, PA and passed away
around 1930. Most Flinkman's I have found on
internet are of non-Jewish descent and seem
to trace their roots back to Finland. We think
his predecessors may have come from Eastern
Europe. If you have any insights, please e-amil
me. Thanks!
