They resided in Illinois - censuses putting them in DuPage and/or Cook County.
They are both buried at Mt.
Hi Sheena

I had a quick look at my papers. My grandmother, Bridget Murphy, born in Bellshill, came to Canada in 1921 and travelled to her grandfather's, Charles Greer. Charles was married to Sarah Flood (married: 1 March 1881 at St Mary's RC Church, Whifflet) Sarah was the daughter of Thomas Flood and Ann Cairns. Charles according to the paperwork was born 1 Aug 1860 in Stewarts Land. (Do you know where Stewarts Land is - is it Ireland or Scotland?) His parents were James Greer (born 1837 in Antrim) and Rose McStay. They married Dec 1854 in Country Antrim, Ireland. Rose McStay was the daughter of William McStay and Margaret McCulloch. James and Rose had a son Charles, who was my grandmother's grandfather. I am sorry if I suggested they were Floods living in Quebec, they were Greers.

All the best, hope this helps. Take care,

Diane

The Thomas Greer that is referred to on another Passenger Declaration form is a son of Charles and brother to Rose. Thomas' place of birthplace is listed as Newlands. His occupation was miner.

Someone did a search for me and they were able to find Charles Greer's date of death. He died 29 July 1927. His death certificate says Parish St-Paul de Grand-Mere, husband of Sarah Flood, 69 year old, Catholic. Witness present were John Greer (son?) , William Greer (son?) and Lord and Priest.

Hi Sheena

Thanks for all the information you sent about the Floods. It is interesting to hear that the Floods were miners. The Greers were also miners and the Murphys. I do recognize the name Charles Greer. Charles and his wife came to Canada, I am not sure when, and were living in Grand Mere, Quebec. About two years ago I found my grandmother's Passenger Declaration information for 1920 or 21, I'm not sure of the exact date. She mentioned on the form that she was on her way to her grandfather's, Charles Greer. Charles' son Thomas also traveled to Grand Mere from Scotland to his father's home. I have never been in touch with any of the Greer relatives. They may have all married into French families by now. I don't know much about this side of family, my Dad has been gone know for 24 years, but if I can be of any help please let me know.

Take care, Diane

Joyce,

My ancestors came, we believe, from county Longford, stopping briefly in Maine from 1849, before heading to Sheboygan WI in 1853, and thence west to Elroy, 60 miles from LaCrosse, in 1859. I've got copies of the deeds for both of these purchases.

While I am sure that my Floods are not the same as yours as far as Americans go, they could have been brothers before leaving the auld sod. There was another Flood clan, or two, resident in the western part of Wisconsin roughly 100-130 years ago. I've seen mention of them in newspaper clippings and the Monroe County lirary. There is a clan centered around Fond du Lac, which was very visible in the 1960s and '70s, although I've never met any of them. There is also a family centered in Delevan, near the Illinois border, that I have met.

If you are still looking in Wisconsin, I will gladly offer whatever info I have.

Contact me directly at jt@floodnet.org.

John Flood

My great grandfather was John L Flood born im Md and moved to NJ. he died in 1885. 4 of his five children are also buried at holy sepulchre. They are John died 1880, maragret died 1881, elizabeth died 1888 and Aliice died 1885. You seem to have a lot of info on the Floods but I know there were a few Flood families in Newark so you might not have any info on my family. Thanks

I think you have to go to the local land registry office for that area. There is quite a bit of information posted in the Archives of Ontario website about doing land searches. For cemeteries there is the Cemetery Finding Aid. If you know the general area where she died, try the local genealogical society; they sometimes have volunteers who will do local lookups. I found Agnes Flood McKinlay's burial location that way. Good luck with your search. Jacqueline

Hi Sheena

I tried searching for the 1881 census for the Flood family but could not find any Flood families listed. I think the census database may not include Scotland. I sat yesterday with paper and pencil and tried to work out how we are related but couldn't, I guess I do not know enough of the family tree. By any chance Sheena would you know what the Flood family did for a living? Many thanks, I hope all is well. Diane

Hi Sheena

Thank you for replying to my message. How wonderful that you recognize the names Thomas Flood and Ann Cairns which means we are distantly related! Before I forget I live in Ontario, Canada. Yes, I am sure you are right about my mispelling of Brighton, I will double check my notes. It would not surprise me, in fact my grandmother's surname was mispelled on her birth certificate! I have not been able to find a lot of information about my grandmother's family
lines, but earlier today I received some of my dad's documents that a relative has been holding in trust for some 20 years. I have not had a chance to sit and go through any of it but I am hoping that I may find some new information. I would enjoy hearing more about the family tree. Sheena what do the numbers S0005 refer to? Hope to hear from you soon. Thank you so much. Diane

Re: Emmor Flood

I have information on John and Barbara Flood (Williams)from Short Gap (Hampshire County), VA. There oldest son was Charles who was born in 1788, who might be the father of Emmor. John, Jr. (b1790) was the next born son but I do not show that he had a son by name of Emmor. This would almost certainly be the right family as there were few Flood's in Hampshire County at that time. Some of the Floods did move to Iowa around 1850 with the families of Longs and Leases who also lived in the Short Gap area.
My gggrandfather, Philip Long married Mary Flood, a daughter of John and Barbara Flood; however, they stayed in VA/WV and, in fact, the Long Family farm became the site of Frankfort High School in 1971. There is a cemetery of the grounds of the high school that has the remains of Philip and Mary Long (Flood) but no other Floods are buried there.
Hope this is some help.
Bill Anderson
770.454.8475
customer1st@bellsouth.net
770.454.8475
