Hi Debbie,
Lovely to hear from you. Yes, that's right about my dad. To be honest my research into the Floys didn't get me very far. But my dad will certainly be able to tell you more about our branch of the family - I know he did a bit of research himself a few years ago. My grandpa (Fred) lost touch with his twin Jessie which we all thought was very sad.
If you want to send me an email to the address below I'll put you in touch with my dad and maybe you can share/compare more history.
Kind regards,
Miranda

Hi Miranda, my name is Debbie Cox. My grandmother's name was Alice whom I was very close to and spent lots of time with when I was young. She was your grandfather's (Fred) sister, I remember her telling me about Fred and Gregory Floy being an actor (Im sure she said he was in rock follies) don't know why I remember that!). She told me lots of stories of when she was a child and growing up. My grandmother resided in macclesfield all her life. I also knew Bert, Jessie and Amy, their siblings whom used to visit her regularly. Dont know where the german connection is but Great grandmother im sure was Irish. please feel free to get in touch would love to find out more about Fred and if you have found out more.

Floy family in Schleswig, Germany and Iowa

Hi, Miranda! Here is what I know about my Floy origins. My gg-grandfather, Peter Petersen Floy, was a 4th generation of Petersen Floys who lived in the village of Suderlugum in the area of Schleswig-Holstein that was fought over between Denmark (to the north) and Germany (to the South) for many years. It was passed down through my grandmother that there were so many Petersen's, that they decided to use a map of Germany and randomly choose a city to use as a last name. I would be very interested to know if your Floys might have any connection to my Floys of Schleswig, Germany who came to Cerro Gordo County, IA in the 1870's and 80's.

floy family history

Hi! My name is Miranda Floy. My father is Gregory Floy. My grandfather was Fred Floy, who was born in Macclesfield in England. He was one of fifteen children, but the family is very spread out, and we are not in contact with many Floys at all. We have tried to find out more about the family, but know very little, other than that there are quite a few in America. If you have any information about the origins of the name, it would be much appreciated. All we know is that the name is pretty rare, and any Floys we come across, in England certainly, are directly related to us in some way. Many thanks.

Floy family history from Schleswig-Holstein to Iowa

Hi! My g-grandfather was Carl Petersen Floy who as born in 1845 in Schleswig-Holstein, Germany. He was a son of Peter Petersen Floy (b. 1819) and Maria Henningsen Floy (b. 1823). Their children were: Sonnich, Matz, Carl, Maria, Catherine, Peter, Marius, Ingeborg, Matz, Martin and Anton. I am in contact with several Floy cousins among Peter and Maria Floy's descendants who are researching our Floy family history. We'd like to hear from other interested Floy cousins!
