Does anyone have any information on a Fluty reunion for this year?
I seem to remember hearing that it was held in August, but that's about all I know.
Is this an annual gathering? If so, when and where will it be held this year?
Thanks for your help! My husband's grandmother was a Fluty and now that we are living on the east coast, we would like to go to the reunion.

Just had to let you know that an old family bible surfaced at our family reunion from my grandfather's eldest brother. My grandfather Robert Lee Houchens was the son of Mary J. Fluty. In this old Bible that is in pieces it states that Mary J Fluty parents are William and Mary Elizabeth Fluty. It lists Mary J siblings as follows: John, Stephen, Jim, Edd, Ben, Ollie, George, Morgan, Mattie. I also located a Emmitt Fluty in Evansville, IN who is the son of John and is deceased but his wife who is now 92 years old gave me some more information. But where is there information to connect these lines to Francis and Elizabeth Endicott just for my notes for me. Can't seem to find any information beyond Mary Elizabeth and William Fluty ancestors....Thanks....Jo Ann

Just interested in knowing how the links were established. Thanks! What kin are you to Mary J!

At the reunion this past Saturday, an old family Bible surfaced. It came from Virgil Houchens who is now deceased since 1963. He was the eldest son of Mary J Fluty and George F. Houchens of Barren County in Kentucky. In it it lists the parents of Mary J. Fluty as: Mary Elizabeth and William Fluty. It lists Mary J's siblings as: John, Stephen, Jim, Edd, Ben, Ollie, George, Morgan, Mattie. I also was able to locate a Viola Fluty who was married to a Emmitt Fluty. She told me that they often visited the Virgil Houchens family because they were family. She told me that her husband's father John was Mary J's brother. Ms. Viola Fluty is 92 years old, still drives and sharp as a whip. She and her family live in Evansville, Indiana. She stated that John's children are as follows: James, Ben, Nora, Cecilia, Emma, by the first marriage, by the second marriage they were her husband George Emmitt Fluty, Ben Riley, Charles Edward, Stephen, Anna Bell, and Lena the ones she can recall. Just in case this helps anyone out there. I think I have found the line I was looking for. Others I have spoken with in Tennesse remembers some of the same family stories.
Thanks for your reply. Yes, I do have a marriage License, a marriage certificate, and a marriage bond, from Barren County In Glasgow, Ky. It has George Houchens name on it and signature nad Mary Fluty signed with 2 x's and someone else wrote in her name as Mary J. Fluty. This was in July of 1883. All of her children told the same story that she was full Cherokee. Of course some of the Indian's took on white names and identities as they were made to adapt to the white man' customs, and may have listed themselves as white for some reason. Janette was suppose to be Stephen's daughter and they were from Nashville. So this may indeed be the lost line. But where do I go from there?...This is too unusual to not have been connected.

According to the 1900 Census, Mary was b. in Ky as were his parents. She was b. June 1865. Her race is notes as "White". Do you have the marriage certificate? There was William Fluty and his family in Overton, TN. Wm. was married to Elizabeth and had a dau. Mary J. and also a son Stephen. Stephen lived in Nashville, TN per 1920 census. I don't show a dau. Jannette tho.....could be a middle name.
This William is the grandson of John Fluty from England. Hope this helps you. You know that family lore is sometimes just that. We had that situation in my family and pictures that "looked like" indian. But the facts are the facts. If she were Cherokee, there would be much documentation. The Cherokee are very well documented.

Mary J Fluty was married in 1883 to George Houchens from Barren County Kentucky. She was to have come from Tennessee or South Carolina. Her children all reported that she was full Cherokee and Ervin Houchens of the Houchens Markets chain also knew of this. I only wish I had went and spoke to him about this before he died but I was young then. One of our relatives still remember a Steve Fluty and his daughter Jeanette coming up from Nashville to visit in the 1940's, but this relative was a child then and took no note of it at that time. If I can locate a Steve or Jeanette Fluty, then I think perhaps there could be a chance for connecting them. Most of Mary J Fluty's grandchildren and great grandchildren still remail here in Barren County in Kentucky.

I can not find relatives or even parents of my great grandmother Mary J. Fluty who either lived in Tennessee or the Carolina's we have been told. A George Houchens took her to Barren County in Kentucky where they lived and died. I know his lineage but not her's. She was full Cherokee Indian according to her children are now all dead and the resemblance certainly was apparrent. Any information may give me a starting point..Thanks.Jo Ann

She married a white man by the name of George Houchens and lived and died in Barren County Kentucky county seat of Glasgow, Kentucky. She died young and I can't seem to find who her parents were only that George went and got her. If only my grandfather was living I could ask him. Any information out there to give me a starting place would be greatly appreciated. She signed her marriage license with an X so the written in name by someone else may not be Fluty as written as they would have only went by the sound of what she said her name was. Any information regarding these lines would be greatly appreciated. Jo Ann

Looking for the father of Dora Matilda Fluty. The only information I have is "Captain" Fluty married to Matilda Miller. Dora was born in 1867, married George Dillard Harris in Arkansas and then moved to Texas. We believe Captain Fluty may have been a Confederate Captain in the Civil War--but not sure. George Dillard Harris is my husbands ggd. My email is bharris@hsutx.edu

My G.G. Grandfather-Thomas J. Fluty is buried here in Missouri where I'm also from.I know next to nothing about him.I was able to trace him through his civil war records to Illinois and his enlistment date of 11/07/1861.He was in the Illinois Infantry-Union.When I did the census lookup I found James Fluty for 1850 from Calhoun County Illinois-Hamburg Precinct.I would appreciate any information. When my Grandmother was alive she said he never talked about where he came from but she thought it was either Indiana or Illinois. My email address is-melodie11@ivillage.com.

Not too many dates for that generation. Louise Hall born June 20, 1874. Marriage to Ann Copley sometime around 1905.
I haven't been looking too long. My grandmother, Ezekiels daughter Sadie, gave me most of the information several years before she died in 1991. She was 93 years old. I have been putting my hand written tree into the family tree from Ancestry.com. Now to try to put on the internet.
Do you have info about Louise Hall?
