I am descended from Lucinda (Lucy) F Peay Lanier, who I am beginning to think was not a Peay at all. Her mother Evalina or Evaline Fly married James Peay in 1842, but Lucinda was born in 1838! And Lucinda consistently listed herself as Lucinda "F" Lanier on censuses, not Lucinda "P" Lanier. My question is: where did Evalina Fly come from? Lucinda was either an illegitimate daughter born when she was about 18, or the product of a previous marriage between Evalina and a man named Fly. I can find no record of such a marriage.

I know that there were Fly families in the Davidson County area around this time, but have not been able to connect Evalina with them. Any ideas about this? Thanks.
