Have not found anything re your mom of Phil

Ron Holliger

I still remember that car trip back from your house to Independence. How many people did we have crowded in that car?

Re: Wilson Fly, Memphis TN

Lakeland fairgrounds back in 60's and 70's. I have been researching this with the assistance of Vance Lauderdale(askvance) of the Memphis Magazine, Lakeland City Hall and any other resource I could find pertaining to the fairgrounds of Lakeland, Tn. Would you by chance know of any other person who may have any information or old 8 mm or stills of the defunct amusement park? Lakeland was my stomping grounds as a young man, around 1977/ 78. I have been walking the old sites where the Huff n Puff and the sky ride operated AND are still there/ at least their foundations are. Anyway, just wanted to keep my search ongoing and billsgarage1 has some 8mm videos that struck a nerve with me/ I too have been trying to find him. Thanks in advance, Walt Drissel/ Arlington, Tn.

Rosa Fly Larkins was my great -grandmother, too. My Grandfather was her son Tony Edward (my mother was his 3rd daughter, Doris June). He always told us that his dad was Irish and his mother was Scottish. I do not know any of this for a fact, he died when I was 11 and I only met Grandma Larkins once in my life. Some of uncle Alga's grandchildren live in South Carolina, perhaps they would know something. I do not know how to get in touch with them. I do not think Grandma Larkins was Cherokee, though.
Linda Strawbridge
Yes, that does help! I have seen information about Elisha online, so I will follow that up. I am still not sure where Lucinda came from, though. I need to establish that she was in fact Evalina's daughter preceding the marriage, and not James' daughter, or even some other relative that they took in. If anyone has information about this, please let me know. Kelly

Evelina Fly was the daughter of Elisha Fly and Elizabeth Cutchin. They were married in Williamson County on Nov. 30, 1816. Evelina's parentage is confirmed by a letter written by an Illinois relative in 1923.
If you want information about Elisha's parents, let me know.
Hope this helps.
Bonnie

I am descended from Lucinda (Lucy) F Peay Lanier, who I am beginning to think was not a Peay at all. Her mother Evalina or Evaline Fly married James Peay in 1842, but Lucinda was born in 1838! And Lucinda consistently listed herself as Lucinda "F" Lanier on censuses, not Lucinda "P" Lanier. My question is: where did Evalina Fly come from? Lucinda was either an illegitimate daughter born when she was about 18, or the product of a previous marriage between Evalina and a man named Fly. I can find no record of such a marriage.

I know that there were Fly families in the Davidson County area around this time, but have not been able to connect Evalina with them. Any ideas about this? Thanks.
About Alse Boon: Her father was William Boon whose will was dated Aug. 30, 1794 in Northampton Co. He mentioned wife Ann and son Lemuel, son William and son John Boon. I think there were other daughters.
William Boon also mentioned his father Thomas Boon.
I haven't traced the Boons any further back. The widow Ann remarried and also went to Missouri. Several of these Boons went there too as well as Enoch Fly.
Bonnie

Virginia is quite right. The evidence is indirect though. The Bible of John Fly, son of Enoch Fly, stated that Enoch was born Jan. 19, 1776 and that his wife Alsea (Alice)Boon was born April 22, 1774.
My grandfather always said that there was a story about a little song that the children would sing about twins Milly and Emelius and Enos and Enoch. I don't necessarily believe all family stories thought because they are not always accurate.
I think this one is true though. The 1850 Census in Northampton Co. has Enos Fly listed as having been born in 1776.
So putting all this together, it looks like the twin boys were born on the date above probably in North Carolina or maybe in Southampton Virginia.
Enoch moved to Missouri by 1821, but he did have a son Elisha born on Wednesday Dec. 6, 1804 in Northampton Co. The Rev. Norman Flythe, an excellent researcher, said that this Elisha moved to Edgecombe County, NC. He probably married in Northampton and took his wife and family with him. Virginia's John was his son. At some time, his wife died and he remarried. His second wife's name was Nancy Long. Elisha and Nancy had one daughter named Nancy.
There are no deeds that prove that Elisha came from Northampton, but Elisha was the only man by that name who was an adult at the time.
Elisha was mentioned in an estate settlement as late as 1831 in Northampton, but I really don't know when he moved.
I hope this helps.
Bonnie Flythe

Enoch and Enos Fly were twins born 19 Jan 1776, Northampton Co. NC. John Henry Fly was my gggrandfather. He was born 22 Dec 1823, died 8 Mar 1874, Edgecombe Co. NC. He married Winifred Mary Powell. Both John Henry and Winifred are buried in the Powell-Fly Cemetery on Powell Rd. about 5 miles east of Rocky Mount, NC. They had Mary Elizabeth, William Henry (my ggrandfather) Polly Winifred, John Irvin, Jesse Daniel, Charles Blossom, Joanna, Sarah, Franklin Beauregard, Dolly William.

yes i am a decendant of john fly i have the whole family tree posted on my profile... not sure if u can veiw it though because im not a paid member. but i will be here in a few days. i had gotten the documentation from james whitney fly... if u didnt know about him he was one of the geneologists who worked on our family tree for over 40 years so he told me when he was alive. next to johns place of death there was a reference to a tombstone in a certain cemetary in virginia i think its not recorded on the tree i have made on here but it is on the print out that cousin jim gave me. also i am a direct descendant of isaiah lacy fly... his son was timothy matthew fly and his son was morton fly who was my grandfather robert lee FLYES father. Grandpa dies around 1965 in carlyle illinois in a construction accident... our family before him was always a mystery because apparently grandpa never talked about them or visited them.. morton died when he was young.

I am a descendant of the Flys who stayed in Northampton County, specifically the John Fly who died in 1804. Is this John your ancestor?
Years ago, the Rev. Norman Flythe, a professional genealogist, helped me learn a great deal about documentation and the importance of family & estate law in the past. Unfortunately cousin Norman has passed away.
Is there a tombstone for the death of the 1818 John Fly? State death records in the U.S. did not start until way after 1818. I am very skeptical about this 112 year age claim.
Bonnie

i was just wondering.... i have some of the research that james whitney fly gave to me about five years ago when i was about 20... i missplaced the documents and hadnt seen them in a long time. i have recently rediscovered them and am actively researching the fly/flye family line and just trying to make connections. and john interested me because of the "legend" of his age some say over 120 years but my records show 1705 or 6 to 1818 (112 years according to james whitney fly). james included a cemetary reference where he found records. so... are you married into the name flythe or are u a direct decendant of the flye line? just wondering where our connection is... im young so im always curious.

It is not true. There is no evidence at all that he lived to 1827. Nor is there any proof of his actual birthdate.
A John Fly was born in early 1700s in Isle of Wight County, Virginia, but no church registers or Bibles have survived that would give a date.
A Jeremiah Fly wrote a will in Isle of Wight in 1733. In it he mentioned his son John, but made his wife Mary sole executrix of the will. This seems to indicate that his son John was under age 21. Back then adult sons were commonly given the job of settling an estate. The son John was probably born after 1712.
The son John may have lived into the 1760s, but does not appear in the records of Isle of Wight or Southampton Counties. He may have lived in Nansemond county Virginia. It is a burned county.
I have examined the court records of the Virginia counties, Northampton Co. NC and mid Tennessee and not found anything that would prove his existence or death date.
Bonnie

Clarence Michaels sent me the last two copies of his book. We had corresponded for a while and he was aware that there were some errors. For example, three English brothers did not leave England and settle in Tennessee. The earliest members of the family settled in Isle of Wight Co., Virginia in the mid-1600s.
The Tennessee Flys came from Northampton Co., North Carolina. Northampton is right on the Virginia-NC state line and Southampton Co., Virginia is directly north. Members of the family moved from Isle of Wight to Southampton Co. probably in the 1740s or 1750s. Then they went to Northampton just before the Rev. War.
The book is really delightful and has lots of useful information! Mr. Michaels did send me some additional information but I have not looked at it in years.
Bonnie
