I am related to the Flynn families located in the St. Louis, and Chisago County Flynns. The migrated to Minnesota from Lake County, IL in the 1850's and 1860's, though originally from Quebec, Canada. Their names Patrick, born in Ireland, brother John, also born in Ireland. Followed by other family members. All of these Flynn's were descended from Charles O. Flynn and Bridget Barrett. If you have information pertaining to any of these Flynn's (also connected Murphy's and Mullen's)I would appreciate hearing from you.

Searching for John FLINN (FLYNN) b: abt 1820 in Dublin? - son of Nicolas Flinn and Mary Martin (b:1796) - John FLINN arrived in the Drummondville, Quebec area before 1844 and married Mary TRAVERS (daughter of Patrick TRAVERS) in Drummondville in 1845. They had a total of 14 children and the first half were born in Drummondville before 1860. The second half were born in Richmond Quebec. They moved to Portland Maine and showed up on the 1871 census there. Their last child, a daughter Emily was born in Maine. The family moved to Toronto Canada before John FLINN (FLYNN) died in Toronto in 1883.

The Mary TRAVERS family in the Drummondville area married these other family names in the area: CARPENTER, WELSH (WALSH)

Ok my dad's Mom was Lila Flynn of Cambridge MA. Her dad was James H. Flynn born in Ireland around 1882 was married to a woman named Elizabeth C. ???? of New York. Lila had a sister Ellen M. Flynn. Trying to locate Elizabeth connection and last where abouts of this Flynn family. My dad and his siblings were removed by the state in or around 1937/38 because Lila couldn't take care of them.

My great aunt, Mary Syron,born 1858 married an Irish quarryman named James Mundy in Stacksteads in 1882. Although Irish by descent Mary came from Rochdale, Lancs which is about seven or eight miles south of Stacksteads. Stacksteads is a village with most of the quarries abandoned now. Many Irish came from Mayo to work in the quarries----Michael Davitt the famous Mayo dissident lived in nearby Haslingden so maybe that was a pull, apart from the quarrywork, for the Mayo men. Seems it was a very hard life--I can send you an article from The Bacup Times about it if you wish. James and Mary raised a large family, first child Margaret Ann was born in 1883 in Stacksteads and they later moved to Oldham, a mill town close to Manchester. If I come across any Flynns there I will be in touch. BTW: Mary Syron's younger sister Honoria went from Rochdale to Falls River MA in 1881--she had Syron family there. I imagine that Syrons, Flynns and Gaughans were related. What do you have if anything on a Bridget Gaughan please--I think she was married to my ancestor Michael Syron of Doonaroya, Addergoole Co Mayo. I would be very interested to get more on the family of Mary Ann Gaughan please.

MUSCATINE, Iowa - Mary J. Flynn, 86, died Wednesday, Oct. 2, 2002, at Lutheran Homes.

Funeral Mass will be held at 10 a.m. Monday at the St. Mathias Church, 215 W Eighth St. The Rev. John P. Gallagher will officiate. Burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery.

Visitation will be at the Ralph J. Wittich-Riley-Freers Funeral Home, with a Rosary Prayer service at 6 p.m. at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the St. Mathias Church.

Mrs. Flynn was born on Dec. 24, 1915, in Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan, the daughter of Henry and Lilly Jacques. She married Joseph R. Flynn on June 24, 1943, in Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan.

She was a member of the St. Mathias Church, a former member of the Catholic Daughters of the Americas, Joan of Arc Court 524, a member of the Muscatine Forum and the Lady Elks.

She worked at Sterneman's and the Glass Smart Shoppe. She also worked for the US Navy and US Army during World War II.

Survivors include one son, Dennis E. Flynn and his wife, Mary, of Grand Rapids, Michigan; two daughters, Maureen Flynn Horner and her husband, Gregg, of Omaha, Nebraska, and Patricia Flynn Mohnssen and her husband, Kevin, of Muscatine; seven grandchildren, Joshua, Jason, Wade, Jessica, Kendra, Karen and Kristen; and one great-granddaughter, Ryan.

Albert was born January 10, 1944 in Andalusia, Ill., the son of Charles and Laura Spitnogle Flynn.

He was united in marriage to Carol Resen.

He had served in the US Air Force.

POW/MIA Korean War, FLYNN

I am searching for the families of a soldier with the surname FLYNN that were lost in the Korean War. At this time the government has no family contact. At the time he was lost his remains were not recovered. Family DNA is needed to identify remains if and when they are recovered. At the time they entered service they gave their Home of Record as posted below

Soldier: JERRY PATRICK FLYNN
Born: 1929
Date of loss: Nov. 7, 1950
Home of Record: San Mateo County, Calif.

When the Korean War ended the enemy never returned or accounted for over 8,000 of our servicemen. They died in their hands. That was over 50 years ago. Since that time DNA has been perfected and also they are recovering remains in North Korea. Our government is obligated to return those remains to the proper family. DNA samples have been obtained from most of the families of these missing soldiers. For various reasons some families have not been located. Our government has no family contact for this soldier.

When the remains are recovered and identified they will be returned to the family for proper burial. I am just an old (79 years) Combat Veteran out of the Korean War and thankful that I did return. I consider this a very noble cause and I hope that you can help in some way to find these families. For more information on the project you may go to http://www.jpac.pacom.mil/. My part in the program is to match up the lost families with the proper agency.

I will be grateful for any assistance in locating this family.

William P. and Elizabeth Flynn (Tomlinson)

I believe William may have been born in Ireland even though census says Philadelphia PA. From my research, he died between 1902-1906 in PA. Elizabeth is also supposed to have been born in PA, sometime around 1875. She went on to remarry to Mr. Joseph King.

William and Elizabeth had six children that we know of:

John b. 1894 (my husband's great grandfather)
Annette (Nettie) b. 1903
Charles b. 1893
Francis b. 1897
George b. 1899
William b. 1890

I think all of the kids were born in Philadelphia (Frankford to be exact).

Anyone have any ideas, advice? Thanks in advance.

John J. Flynn from Ballina, County Mayo to Cleveland, OH

Looking for any information or maybe a connection to my great, great grandfather John J. Flynn. All the information I have comes from records that are US based and I haven't been successful in tracing him to any records back in Ballina, County Mayo.

John Flynn was born around in 1855 in the Ballina area (not sure which townland). His parents were John Flynn and Bridget Haley (according to his death cert. of which his wife, Catherine Reddington was the informant). He immigrated to the US in 1880. His future wife, Catherine Reddington (she was also from County Mayo), immgrated in 1882. John and Catherine were married on 3 Aug 1883 in Cleveland, OH. The 1900 Census has them living on Leopold St. (later E. 80th) in Cleveland with their 4 children:
John (b. Apr 1887)
Mary (b. Mar 1890)
my great grandfather Joseph (b. Apr 1892)
William (b. Aug 1894)
The 1910 census had much the same information. He passed away on 20 Jul 1918 and is buried at Calvary Cemetery in Cleveland.

I live in CT and after doing my genealogy, have discovered that Christopher Flynn is related to me on my grandmothers maiden side. He is the son of Michael Flynn and Ann (Cosgrove) Flynn. Christopher Flynn is my Great Grandfather Welches Grandfather. I have pictures of his grave site and only live 15 minutes from Baltic, CT where it is. I myself am in the military and collect pictures and what not of family who has served. I have wondered what happened to his Medal of Honor. I am unsure of this Williams Birth date as of yet, but must be between 1911-1921 (or around this area) unsure if he had a middle name, I know he had children.

Can not see a William Henry Flynn as of yet on my tree.

My grandfather, Thomas Aloysius Flynn, was born June 1, 1906. He died October 18, 1965. He was married to Lillian Flynn (maiden: Kreidler). They had one daughter -- my mother MaryLillian Flynn (married name LaSusa).

Thomas was the son of Michael Harold Flynn and Catherine Flynn (maiden name Heffernan).

Michael and Catherine had eight children in total:

1) William Vincent: Born May 27, 1891; died September 10, 1960

2) John: February 3, 1893; died July 13, 1956

3) Edward Matthew: born?; died November 26, 1967

4) James Richard: born May 1900; died October 5, 1935

5) Harold: No information available

6) Margaret Irene (Later became Margaret Bosso): born May 17, 1904; died August 18, 1984

7) Thomas Aloysius (My grandfather): June 1 1906; died May 18 1965

8) Joseph: born May 22, 1908; died October 27, 1953

My great-grandfather Michael Harold Flynn, was born October 17, 1868 in Leeds, England (although there is some speculation that might be incorrect, and he may have been born in Crossmolina, County Mayo, Ireland). He died in September 1, 1936 in Harvey's Lake, Pennsylvania.

My great, great-grandfather was also named Michael Flynn. We definitely know that he was born in Crossmolina, County Mayo, Ireland on September 29, 1838. He died on January 20, 1915 in I believe Pennsylvania (as he is buried in Larksville, PA). My great, great-grandfather's wife was Bridget Flynn (Maiden name McHale -- born November 7, 1838; died November 6, 1905).

Michael and Bridget had nine children. Their names were:

1) John (aka Jack): born July 10, 1859; died?

2) Mary Ellen (later became Mary Ellen Walker): born April 2, 1862; died February 20, 1918

3) William: born April 3, 1864; died?

4) Thomas: born May 25, 1866; died June 21, 1903

My great, great, great-grandfather was named John Flynn. As far as we know, he was married to "Mary." Unfortunately, we have no information on them other than their names. However, I would suspect that at least one of them (if not both) were from Crossmolina, or at least somewhere in Mayo.

Again, if any of the names I have provided sound familiar, I would really like to hear from you.

Patty: Came across this note while doing some searching and remembered that this past weekend, had a small family reunion, looking over some old photographs, which included a picture of your grandfather "Jack" @ my aunt Lydia Thomas (Flynn)'s either 95 or 100 birthday.
Eileen Simpson (McKinney)(daughter of Eileen) was also in attendance at this get together.
I am missing data about your branch of my grandfathers brothers of which Jack was one.

I'm seeking information on Edward and Jane (Howell) Flinn who immigrated to Minnesota in 1850. At the time they had 5 children. I have been unable to learn anything about their parents, etc. I've been told they came from Dublin. Their daughter Jane "Jenny" is my great-grandmother.

My grandfather was born in Lake Five, Wi down near Milwaukee to Edward Flynn and Annie O'Keane My grandfather William was born Feb 24 1888, Edward was born May 6, 1855 he is the son
of Patrick Flynn who was the son of another Edward who came over came over from Ireland in the 1700's Edward the oldest one was married to Catherine Pendergast. Patrick was married to Mary Mc Carten. Not sure if any of this helps you but it is what i know of my family tree
