1.PETER FOGLE (Surname originally Vogel)
b.3-5-1799 in PA, came from OH was a stone-mason and brick layer.
d.between 1870-1880 Buried at Terra Alta, Preston Co.,WV
He built the old stone jailhouse at Kingwood, Preston Co.,WV.
He was a subscriber to the construction of the Sugar Grove Church, Rt.19 south of Morgantown,
a Presbyterian church, built in Monongalia Co., WV on Dent's Run.

Peter FOGLE is buried in Terra Alta Cemetery, Terra Alta, Preston Co.,WV, but the rest of the stone is illegible. However, son James B. Fogle and some of his family are buried in the same cemetery. (Janice Cale Sisler, In Remembrance / Tombstone Readings of Preston County, West Virginia, 1997, p. 172)
A son, J. B. Fogle was one of the first physicians in Portland, having come from Morgantown in 1866. (S. T. Wiley, History of Preston County, 1882 (reprinted 1993), p. 411.) And in 1872 another son, R. Bruce FOGLE "of Morgantown" opened up a drug store at Cranberry. (Ibid., p. 413)
In Monongalia County, WV Peter FOGLE had been appointed School Commissioner for West Side -- District 2 on 29 Oct 1862. (S. T. Wiley, History of Monongalia County, 1883(reprinted, date unknown), p. 363) And he was Township Treasurer in Grant District, Monongalia County, from 1863-1866. (Ibid., p. 719)
Also from Wiley's History of Monongalia County, p. 482, comes the following:
Peter FOGLE married a daughter of Captain John and Margaret (Evans) Dent, Ann Arah Dent who was described by Wiley as "the widow of the late Peter FOGLE, the only survivor of the twelve [children of John and Mary Dent], and who lives at Cranberry, Preston County, with her sons, Dr. James B. and R. Bruce FOGLE."
And finally Wiley, on p. 736, gives the following biography:
"PETER FOGLE (name originally was Vogel) came from Ohio, and was a stone-mason and brick-layer. He built the old stone jail at Kingwood, Preston Co.,WV. He married Ann Arah, daughter of Capt. John Dent. Of their children, Dr. Garrett T. graduated at Starling Medical College, and is a druggist at Alliance, Ohio; Dr. G. D. is at Graysville, Ohio; Dr. James B. graduated at Starling Medical College, and is located at Terra Alta (Cranberry), Preston County;WV. R. Bruce is a druggist at the same place; John T. died while mayor of Henry City, Illinois; Imlah M. is a merchant at Bridgeport, Ohio; William W. is a farmer in Calhoun County; Evan D. read medicine, but died. Five of them were in the Federal army, viz.: G. T., William W., R. B., J. B., and Evan D. Of these five, R. Bruce was taken prisoner after being in the battles of Ft. Donaldson and Pittsburgh Landing."

"West Virginians in the American Revolution" by Ross B Johnston, 1977, includes John Dent (Lieutenant) born Feb 18, 1755 in Loudoun Co VA and died Sep 20, 1840 in Monongalia Co VA. He enlisted in Monongalia Co VA in 1777 in the Thirteenth Virginia Regiment Continental Troops. He married Margaret Evans (sister of Dudley) in Monongalia Co VA in Jun 1780. Their children (Elizabeth, John, George, Dudley, Ann, Nimrod, Margaret, Enoch, James, Marmaduke, Arnradey & Barnady) and their birth dates are listed.
Also in the same reference is John Evans (Colonel) born in Fairfax Co VA Dec 9, 1737, resided in Loudoun Co VA at age 13, moved to Monongalia Co VA 1769-70, died in Monongalia Co VA May 1, 1834 and was buried in Oak Grove Cem, Morgantown. His military service included Dunmore's War. Supporting data for his pension application was submitted by Capt John Dent (Thirteenth Virginia Regiment) and others.
32. JOHN7 Dent (GEORGE6, GEORGE5, JOHN4, GEORGE3, PETER2, PETER JAMES1) was born January 18, 1755 in Loudoun Co., VA, and died September 20, 1840 in Monongalia County, VA. He married MARGARET EVANS June 13, 1780 in Monongalia Co., Virginia, daughter of JOHN EVANS and REBECCA MARTIN. She was born November 9, 1764 in Loudoun Co., VA, and died November 23, 1851 in Monongalia County, VA.
Annarah (Anna)HIGGS Dent FOGLE was 77 years old when she sat on the Reviewing Stand at Terra Alta, West Virginia for the Glorious 4th of July Celebration of 1880. The audience was told she was the mother of Dr. James B. and R. Bruce FOGLE, prominent citizens of Terra Alta. In addition the audience learned that her grandfather was a Revolutionary War soldier and five of her sons fought for the Union in the Great Rebellion.

111.ALBERT JULIAN FOGLE b.2-6-1864 in Jefferson Co.,OH
BERT JULIAN FOGLE, who is engaged in the wholesale drug business, as a member of the Rankin, FOGLE, Francy Drug Company, at Muskogee, Oklahoma, is one of the representative men of the city. He was born at Mt. Pleasant, Jefferson County, Ohio, February 6, 1864, and is a son of Evan Dent and Sarah S. (Sharon) FOGLE. The father of Mr. Fogle was born at Morgantown, W. Va., and was reared on a farm. He later engaged for many years in a mercantile business. He married a daughter of John Sharon, who was a pioneer and large farmer in Jefferson County.
Bert Julian FOGLE was a small boy when his parents moved to Alliance, Ohio, and he was reared there and before he was seventeen years old had spent some three years as a student in Mt. Union College. His first training in the drug business was in a store in Pittsburgh, and from there he returned to Alliance and prior to coming to Toronto, December 21, 1885, coming as a clerk for the John Francy Company. In 1890 he went into partnership with George C. Pugh, and they purchased the store together and the business was conducted for a number of years under the firm style of Pugh & FOGLE. Subsequently Mr. Fogle bought Mr. Pugh's interest.
In 1900 Mr. Fogle was married to Miss Macy J. Francy, a daughter of R. M. Francy, and they have one daughter, Sarah Elizabeth. Mr. Fogle is identified with a number of fraternal organizations, including the Masons, the Knights of Pythias and the Woodmaen of the World.
