according to my records, Benjamin was born to Jacob Folck and Elizabeth Frick in Feb 1821 in Green Co, Ohio. On 20 Oct 1847, he married Hettie Pettigrew who was bornon 6 Jun 11829 in Rockbridge Co, Virginia. So, she could not have been 30 years his junior. They are both buried at Coffeyville, Montgomery Co, Kansas. I do not live far from there and was through there about a month ago. Does this help you?

I talked to a lady on a bus trip I was taking several years ago. Her last name was Folk. She said her father-in-law dropped the C because he wanted to, but his second wife insisted that he put it back in, so he had children Folk and children Folck. He was somewhere in northern Indiana. I haven't been able to attach him to any one I know there, probably because I don't have enough descendants of those people.

I have a new email address. sshowell1220@comcast.net

Sharon

I am sorry that I cannot answer why the name change to Folk. My Folk had taken the C off of their name. There is a George Folk in my family background. Benjamin Folck was my great great grandfather. He is buried in Coffeyville, Kansas. They had ventured to Kansas from Ohio.
Have you tried contacting Sharon ?. Will have to get back to you on her last name. We are 4th cousins. She might be able to help you.

I also have information on a Benjamin Folck, born Feb 1821, died 1905, married Hettie Pettigrew, born Dec 1830, died Feb 28, 1922. Benjamin would be my great, great grandfather. His son John W. Folck, born May 22, 1851, died May 6, 1943, married Mary Luceitta Potter, born Dec. 28, 1855, died Sep, 23, 1954. Their son, George FOLK, born Sep. 23, 1894, died Aug.12, 1981 is my grandfather. He married my grandmother, Cora Shirley Mitchell, born Jan. 19, 1922, died Dec. 25, 1970.

This might just be a shot out of the dark. There is a Christopher Folck coming to Philadelphia in 1751 and moved on to Virginia. One of his sons is Jacob. This is an uncommon name and I have had a tough time finding much about Jacob, but the Jacob Folck I have has siblings. Hannah Polly, Susannah, Peggy. Several brothers as well as Abraham. Ancestry has this family. The wife of Christopher is Anna Elizabeth with unknown last name.

I realize this post is a few years old. But I just came across the request and just started doing a little work on this family at the request of someone else back east.

I have been to the Greene County Historical Society and received a list of names of those burried there. However I have found a few headstones not listed and some information listed through the society did not match the headstones. My information is on:

George, Mary, Joseph H, Jacob, David, Elizabeth, Susannah and Alonzo G.

There are a few headstones that are not able to be read and I'm sure not all have been found due to damages by vandals.

I have traced my Folck/Folk family to a Jacob, born about 1825 MD, who married Rebecca Madden (1824 PA - 1905 MD). According to Rebecca's obituary, Jacob joined the Civil War and was never heard from again. After his disappearance, Rebecca moved her family to Allegany Co., MD. As her own immediate family was deceased at the time, I believe her move suggests that her in-laws may have lived in Allegany Co.

The 1850 Federal Census for Allegany Co. suggests that
Jacob & Mary Folck may have had a son named Jacob, same approximate age. Is this couple related to your Daniel (?)
Would you happen to know anything about Daniel's siblings and/or their descendents?

I have been having a terrible time trying to figure out how my Jacob may fit into the Allegany Co. families.

Thank you for your help -- it is most appreciated!

Daniel Folck Jr.m. Sophia Smouse (m. abt 1810) in Allegany County, Md. they had 13 children. The first child, Sarah Ann Folck, 1825-1891 married Oliver P. Hendrickson.(1820-1891)who were my great, great grandparents. I have much more information about the family because Sarah's younger sister (#13)wrote a diary. She lived to be 91 and in her account are many details of her young life and subsequent marriage. I also have letters from her to my grandfather, she was his aunt.

FOLCKs of VA/MD/PA

I understand that there are several F-O-L-K lines residing in the (west) Virginia/Maryland/Pennsylvania area during the early to mid-nineteenth century. Fortunately, there are far fewer F-O-L-C-K families. I am having difficulty researching my line. If any of the following persons or relationships appear familiar, please respond to this posting:

Jacob FOLCK (b. abt. 1825 MD) married Rebecca MADDEN (d/o Keeley and Susan). They had only three children: John, Susan, and William Keeley.

William Keeley FOLCK (b. June 7, 1858 Somerset Co., PA; d. May 30, 1933 Allegany Co., MD) married Mary Jane LOGSDON (d/o Moses and Anna). They had eleven children: Anne, John, Edna, Royal, Bertha, Hannah, Ada, Mamie, James, Emma, and Charles.

Charles Keeley FOLK (b. Nov. 24, 1886 Allegany Co., MD; d. July 5, 1973 Allegany Co., MD) married Celia Carol RAWLINGS(d/o Robert and Lillie). I have a modest amount of information on this branch of the family, should anyone be interested.

I am particularly interested in learning of some leads for both Jacob FOLCK (Folk?) and his parents. I have reason to believe that Jacob served, briefly, in the Civil War. Rebecca Folk's obituary suggests that he joined the war and was never heard from again. He may have been the deserter listed in Cole's Cavalry of MD or he may have served in a PA regiment. Any information would be greatly appreciated!

My FOLK family, however, did live in the Mount Savage area for some time and the name is sometimes spelled F-O-L-C-K on various documents and census reports.
