Hi Dawn and Jon,

Dawn - I think we've exchanged eMails before re. the Folds family. Jon - hello!

I descend from :

a) John Folds of Burnley, who moved around 1771 to work on Luton Hoo,
b) Obadiah (b ~1793) + second wife, Charlotte Cannon,
c) Charles,
d) Francis Foster,
e) Francis Walter John,
f) Olive Louie (my mother).

I have a solid trace back to John, but there I lose all track.

I know that there were four siblings:

1) Isabella (died a spinster around Apr 1821 - have found a copy of her will),

2) (my) John, a carpenter,

3) James (a carpenter), who was, I believe, the father of two sons: James (who became Mayor of Burnley) and Obadiah.

4) Susannah, who married a Richard Dawson of Portsmouth.

But I can find _nothing_ about their parents.

Have you had any luck?

Chris Haynes
I'm looking for a Joe Folds who married Lillie Dell Byous. She was born 3-24-1888 & died in 9-5-1936. They lived somewhere around Sunnyside or Griffin, Ga. Not positive on that. Lillie was my grandmothers sister. I would love to know where they are buried. He remarried after her death to a lady in Griffin. Don't know her name but, she had a son named Alfred. Joe & Lillie had 4 daughters. Dolis, Lizzie Mae, Opal, Magnolia. Can anyone help?

I agree Barbara, we do need to share. I am also related to your Folds family and I have info from my Aunt Laverne Carter.

She discovered that Folds was sometimes spelled Foles, Fowles and Foalds.

John Folds and Mary Wilkins Folds had two known children, William W (Bill) Folds and David D. Folds. William W. (Bill) Folds was my Paternal Great-Great-Great Grandfather. He begat Priscilla Elizabeth Folds who had married John W Folds (her cousin)-my Great-Great Grandparents and they begat Georgia Lee Ann Folds (Weaver)-My Great Grandmother. They begat Lonnie Lee Weaver (Carter)-My grandmother. They begat my father Bennie Marion Carter.
I have lots of info, including copies of D.D.Folds confederate records and John W Folds confederate records. I will be glad to scan and email to whomever requests.

Fold family obits

Going to start posting some of the 100's of obits I have here. If anyone else would like to share theirs also would be appreciated. I will add some every so often.
-------------------------------------------------

Huntsville Times, The (AL) - March 19, 2007
Deceased Name: Hugh Folds -- Life Stories

Hugh Folds grew up poor, later worked with NASA

Hugh Folds always flew the U.S. flag correctly on his flagpole at his northwest Huntsville home. When Gerald Ford died recently, Folds lowered his flag to half-staff to honor the late president.

He was proud of that flag, having served it honorably in World War II, said his daughter, Elaine Morton. Folds died Thursday at 80, before he got the chance to fly to Washington, D.C., to see the World War II memorial. Folds wanted to get a seat on a future Honor Flight, which is giving veterans a free trip to the nation's capitol to see the memorial.

Folds grew up in south Georgia in a home with cracks so wide he could see the chickens through the floorboards and the stars through the roof. His father died when Folds was just 2, and life was hard. He joined the Army and was on the way to Japan when the war ended, Morton said.

She put together a scrapbook of her dad's war experiences, which was something he began to discuss only within the past couple of years, said Bill Folds, Hugh Folds' son.

While in Japan, Folds was assigned to the 108th Medical Battalion and drove an ambulance. He had to retrieve bodies of soldiers who were killed during the equivalent of today's suicide bombings, Morton said.

Despite that experience, Folds loved the Japanese people he met. He had photos of a couple he called "Mama San" and "Papa San." When he talked about the Japanese children he saw, "he would just start weeping," Morton said.

His desire was to represent America well, and he learned to "be open to all kinds of people" through his time in the service, Folds' daughter said.

Back home in Georgia, Folds was working as a ticket agent at a train station when a young nurse named Charlotte bought a round-trip ticket. He knew she would be getting back late that evening and stuck around, so she wouldn't have to get home by herself. He and Charlotte soon married, had three children and would have celebrated their 56th anniversary this summer.

Folds was a natural at fixing things, his children said, and taught himself how to repair radios and televisions. For a while, Folds did bookkeeping work, using his mathematical skills, but he wasn't satisfied.

Charlotte saw a want ad for the Sperry-Rand company in Gainesville, Fla., and the two took off work and went looking for a job. Folds was hired and moved to Huntsville in 1965, where he worked on many NASA projects, including Spacelab.

"He would be real hush-hush," said Bill Folds, "until (a project) would become public knowledge. Then he would say 'I was part of that.' "

"He felt like he was on the front edge of the future," Morton said.

Their dad was known for his work ethic and abilities.

His supervisors would say "if you had a job you needed done and you wanted it done right the first time, you went to Hugh Folds," his son said.

When there was down time on his projects, Folds taught himself computer code and ended up writing a maintenance program for NASA's computer systems that simulated a shuttle launch. His group ended up maintaining the computers on Redstone Arsenal.

Because he worked constantly, either on the job or fixing radios and televisions at his house, Folds didn't have a lot of time to take his kids to baseball games and other things, said his namesake, Hugh Folds Jr.

His commitment to work stemmed from the tough time their dad had growing up, he said.

"Whatever he had to do," Hugh Jr. said, "he did to provide for his family."
========================================
The Cairo Messenger, Friday, October 30, 1908
"Greenwood Jottings"
After a very long illness, Mr. John Folds died Monday night, Oct. 25th, at his home near Greenwood. He leaves many relatives and friends to mourn his loss.

Grady Co., Ga
========================================
The following obituary appered in the Post Searchlight, Bainbridge, Ga.

Death of Billie Folds...........

The home of Mr. And Mrs. C. L. Folds was saddened Friday morning July 5, [1929] when a death angel stole quietly in and took from them their little darling baby, Billie. He had been sick for several weeks and all was done that loving hands could do, but God needed another little Angel, and he
released him of his suffering on this earth. He had only been with his parents five months although long enough that all hated so much to see him leave them. "Weep not, mother, for you will see your darling in a far better place than this world." Besides mother and father, he leaves three
sisters, Eleanor, Margaret and Eva; one little brother Jim Jack; Grand parents, Mr. and Mrs. J. A. Ash.

His little body now rests in the Rock Pond Cemetery in Seminole County. May God bless the ones that are left for we know the little one is at rest.

Georgia: Decatur County: Obituary of Billie Folds
5 July 1929
=========================================
FOLDS, Mrs. and three children, last Thursday night at the
residence of Mr. Thomas Folds in the 11th district a most
shocking accident occured when oil being used to fill a lamp
exploded; Mrs. Folds and the children burned to death and Mr.
Folds was badly burned and not expected to live; Vol. 6, No. 24

May 31, 1878, page 3
MERIWETHER COUNTY, GA - NEWSPAPERS OBITS January 1873 - December 1879
=========================================
FOLDS, Mrs. Nancy, familiarly known as Aunt Nancy, died Dec. 29, 1891; she was born in Jasper county in 1808, moved to this county in 1835, and was married to Capt.

I am interested in finding any other Folds' related to Gabe L. Folds (Lillie Mae Herndon spouse). Gabe's parents were George Taylor Folds (1875-1963) and Sallie J. Graham (Walker)(1884-1960).
Taylor's parents were George Madison Folds (1840-?) and Delilah Wilson Ivey (1859-?) I believe Delilah died in St. Lucie, Fla but do not know year. She had remarried a Parrott?.

Please e-mail Gail Folds Frank at gfrank@unitedbank.net.

According to my info John Folds & Mary Wilkins had 7 children. I am descended from Edmond Jenkins born in 1810. He married Lucretia Holmes. They had 4 children. George Madison was my gggrandfather. After Lucretia died, Edmond married Matilda Jane Coleman and had 11 more children. Edmond & Matilda are buried in Dooly Co., Ga.
I am interested in George Madison. He married Delilah Wilson Ivey in 1874. He was alive in 1880 census but not 1900. Sometimes his name is shown as George W. Folds.
