Classification: Query
Seeking information on our ggg grandparents William FONES and Dorcas SHERMAN.

William FONES was born in Nth Kingston RI in 1764. He enlisted in the Nth Kingston Militia at age 14 years for the Revolutionary War and served under Capt. Peter Wright and Col. Charles Dyer - the year was 1778.

William FONES and Dorcas SHERMAN married March 29, 1789.

Their children were as follows:

Elizabeth b.1790 - Ruth b.1791
Barbary b.1793 - Mary b.1795
John b.1796 - Lyman b.1800
Daniel (birth date unknown)
William b.1811 - Hannah b.1803
Dorcas b.1814 - Dewey b.1816
Sally b.1821

By at least the early 1800s William, Dorcas and the children were living in Wales Centre, Erie Co. NY.

Some children initially married and settled in Erie Co. NY. Before the Civil War some had shifted to Geneseo, Henry Co., Illinois. Some of the descendants (children) of those who went to Illinois - later settled in Kansas.

William FONES died in Wales Center 22 April, 1839 and is buried in a Revolutionary War grave at the Wales Center Cemetery, Route 20 - Wales Center, Erie Co., NY.

I would like to make contact with anyone who might be researching this FONES line - and am seeking information on who William FONES or Dorcas Sherman's parents might have been. Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.
