James T. Fontana, 56,
of Smithton, died Wednesday, April 23, 2008, at Excela Health Frick Hospital, Mt. Pleasant. He was born Sept. 10, 1951, in Mt. Pleasant, a son of the late Bruno and Emma (Presello) Fontana. Jim was retired from USX Clairton Works and was a member of St. Timothy Roman Catholic Church, Smithton. He was a member of the following organizations, American Legion Post No. 790 and William Marconi Club, both of Smithton, Smithton Volunteer Fire Department and the German Club of Collinsburg. He is survived by a daughter, Nicole Mattie, of Brownsville; sister-in-law, Dona Fontana, of Belle Vernon; Elaine Smith, of Smithton; two nephews, John and Dee Schmeltz; niece, Val Jean Burnsworth; and the following great-nieces and -nephews, John J. Schmeltz, Brandyn Schmeltz, Samantha Philburn Colton Schmeltz and Madison Schmeltz. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Santo Fontana. Family and friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Friday in L.L. BARTHELS FUNERAL HOME INC., Second Street, Smithton, where a blessing service will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday with Father Thomas Trupkovich officiating.
