My great-great-grandfather came to Paterson,NJ from Strona. There was Giovanni, b. Aug 1853; Luigi, b. Jun 1855; and Quintino, b. 15 Jul 1857. There must have been at least 2 older ones, as the last was named Quintino. I think perhaps your Frederick was brother to these 3. Where in Australia did he move to? Where did Guido move to? And, Oreste was not made a saint in 1991. He is called Venerable. It is a step in the beatification process. Do you have any information on Frederick's parents, or what his wife's name was?

John and Angela Fontanella's children include Amelia b. Nov 1881, Constantino, b. 9 nov 1883, d 1960; Leonire b. 29 mar 1889, d jan 1978; Irida Mary b mar 1889; Charles b 2 sep 1893. Constantino married Pierina Gallo in 1910, they had Frederick and Edmund. Leonire married Lucy in 1910 and they had John F., Lucille, and Mabel.
My great-great grandmother Angela Fontanella came to Ameria on 12/12/1892 from Biella, Italy. She was born in 1856 based on the 1920 census - lived in Passaic NJ. I know she came on the ship named Kaiser Wilhelm II sailing from Genoa with 4 children:

Amalie Fontanella (my great grandmother)

Constantino Fontinella (male) Born 1883 based on 1920 census - lived in Passaic, NJ

Leonire (spelling?) Fontanella (female) born approx. 1889

Srida (spelling?) Fontanella (female) born approx. 1889

The two youngest children were listed on the ships log as being 3 years old so I assume they were twins.

I do not have a name for my great-great grandfather nor did another male with the name Fontanella travel to America with these 5.

Have any of these names come up in your Fontanella search? If so, please share your information.

My ancestor came here in 1889, and sent for his wife who came in 1896 with the children. His name was Louis and her name was Rosalie. Their children were Vigilio (Virgil) born in Italy, Valentino born in Italy, an unknown child who died very young born in Italy, Pietro (Peter) born here (my g grandfather) and Lucia (Lucy) born here. I found them on the 1900 Census, and Lucia was born in 1899. There probably were more children, but I have to wait for the 1910 Census to com eout on index. If these are connected to you please reply, and if they aren't, still reply. Thanks

Hi Mike....yes...I do believe you're right, that's my grandparents. We are related to quite a few Fontanella's in Stafford. Tommy Fontanella just passed away...he was a wonderful person, and will be missed by many. Were you related to him? Thanks for writing....email me at:
PatteGMAC@aol.com

Patte

Hi....My grandmother was a Fonanella, had a huge family, all located in or near Stafford Springs, Conn. There are several different families there now. They originated from Forno di Zoldo, near Austrian border. My aunt went back once, and told me about the little town, in the Dolomites.
My grandfather (DaDalt), was from Vittorio Venito. Our name if very rare in the US...althought there are still plenty in Italy. If they are in the US, we are related.
Just thought I'd add another strain of Fontanella's to your list!
Good luck....Patte
