I am researching Foodys from Killala Co. Mayo.

Details I have are:

James Foody married Margaret Boland around 1860. They lived in Ross (Bourke) in Killala.

They had 3 children that I'm aware of: Bridget (b. 1862), (Anne B. 1863) and Patrick (b. 1864).

Anne was my Great Grand Mother and married James Jordan (from Cortoon, Co. Mayo) in 1891.

I would appreciate if anyone has any additional information.

I am told that I am related to Thomas Swift an author. He wrote Gulliver's Travels. I think he was a Dean at St. Patricks. I know the gaelic surname in Ireland was O'fuata, near or in Sligo/Mayo counties. Settled in Pa.
O'fuata is from the gaelic word ofuadich which means "plundering" if anyone is interested.

My name is Quention Edward Foody. My father was Stephen Addison Foody of New York, he served in the Navy as an officer. He also served in Gulf War during Desert Storm. His brother's name is Craig Foody. Had a daughter that I made attempts to contact, but was unable. My mothers name was Linda Marie Stoetzel (maiden). She was from California. I was born in Phoeniz, AZ in 1979. My mother and father divorced when I was only 2 yrs. old. I never had anything of contact with him after that time. I only heard of him, rumors mostly. I do know that I am descended from the old irish surname O'fuata. My family originally settled in Pennsylvania, then I guessed split. Not exectly sure. Rumors at most is my family history. The only things I know for sure is my family surname from Sligo and Mayo county was O'fuata. That and my fathers name being Stephen Addison Foody, that and my mom. Anyone who knows about my family, I would be very greatful to hear it. I have alot of trouble finding family from my dad's family. When he and my mom split, I lost pretty much all knowledge of Foodys. My mom was very ignorant of his family.

I am researching another branch of the Foode family. They also originated in Middleton but my particular ancestors moved to Rugby in Warwickshire rather than Leicestershire. My grandmothers maiden name was Foode but was always pronounced food. It is certainly an unusual name and back in 1800's the only ones seem to be around the same Northants/Leicester area so guess all the same family.

Can anyone help me find a George Foody? He was born in Keighley, West Yorkshire in around 1903, the son of John Foody and Elizabeth Foody (nee Smith). All I know is that (probably as a teenager) he went south to find work and ended up working on a farm (possibly in Kent but that's uncertain). He was involved in an accident whilst playing football and died as a consequence. He was not brought back to Keighley to be buried but was buried near where he found work. Does anyone know anything of him?

Thanks.

Chris Hollings.

FOODY/FOODE

I have a suspicion that the root of my grandmother, Sarah Jane Foode's name was Foody. Certainly the name was pronounced "foody" and in conversation she refered to her father as " a big Irishman". What I have from family tradition and a few records are:

John Foode b. ca. 1810 Married to Madeline (surname unknown) At least one child:

William Foode b. 1840 Medbourne, Leicester. Married to Mary Ward, 1 October 1865 in Cottingham - cum- Middleton, Northampton. Children were:

Polly Foode ca.1867
Emma Foode 1869 in Cottingham, Northampton
Lucy Foode ca. 1870
John. H. (Jack) Foode 1873 in Weston, Northampton
Mary E. A.(Ada) Foode 1875 in Weston, Northampton
Clara Foode 1877 in Medbourne, Leicester
Martha (Bertha) Foode 1880 in Medbourne, Leicester
Sarah Jane Foode 1883 in Horninghold, Leistershire
Steven Foode ca.1885

I do hope this rings a bell for someone. They seemed to be a travelling family with a brick wall attached.

Thanks for your time.

Mary!

Hi!! I have a letter of your aunt's - copied from my dad's cousin's genealogy papers. I remember a few months ago trying to find out what happened to her. The letter, I believe was from the early 60's. I have quite alot of info. Where was your dad born? do you know who his parents were? I am going out of town tomorrow thru the 20th, but when I return I will get you the info, and can copy the note and send it to you. I think Jeanne was in Texas, is that right? Or i might be confusing her with one other letter from a Foody lady. It's great to hear from you. I promise to fill you in more when I return. I am actually going to meet my Uncle Bill Foody Morris on this trip. He is my late father's brother and I never met him before. Talk to you soon!

Hi Shannon,
I'm not sure what info in particular you are looking for but this is what I know... Jeanne Beaton Foody was my aunt and William J. Foody is my father. I am the youngest of six kids. Unfortunately, I do not know any of my uncles. I do remember my mother mentioning that my uncles lived in New Jersey and Connecticut. My immediate family is also still in N.J. but I am not.Hope this helps. If I can answer any specific questions don't hesitate to email me. Thanks, Mary Foody

Hi John,
Wonder if you are still trying to trace your tree. Have you had any luck? My great grandmother was an Elizabeth Foody, her family lived in Ballynahaglish, just outside Ballina. I have traced her family back to 1804 but hope to go back further. The north mayo heritage centre in Enniscoe, Ballina was a great help to me in finding information. The girl there, Aileen, is great and very helpful. Maybe we can even find a connection, good luck, and let me know if you find out more.
Regards,
Patrick

Hi Shannon,
My great grandmother was Elizabeth Foody, born 1882, in Ballynahaglish (Rahins), near Ballina, Co. Mayo. It appears from my research that they were recorded as Swifts only in the civil records not the church records, as her father and grandfather were recorded as Swifts in the civil records (which began in 1864) and as Foody in all church records. I have information I can share if you like, let me know.
Regards,
Patrick Finnerty

Hi Shannon,
The Foody's I am refering to were all born in Culleens anywhere from approx 1883 thru 1902. They are my husbands Aunts & Uncles. His grandfather and grandmother were John Foody & Mary Hannon. I would say John was born about 1851, and Mary was from Kilglass parish. I have someone checking on her church records..
4 of my husbands Uncles came out to N.Y. starting about 1913 and on up until 1924. He also had 2 aunts that came to N.Y. in the same period. Two brothers and 1 sister stayed at home. One lived in the home place. Willie was his name.
Kate Ann was married and lived in Cairns. John married and moved into Bonniconlon.
Do you have anything that connects with any of them?
Also what area of the country are you in ?
