I believe the name Foran comes from the Gaelic ‘FURAN’ meaning Hail. The common term was ‘Failt’ is Furan’ meaning ‘Hail and Welcome’. Ni Fuarhain was the Gaelic name Foran. Also known as O'Fuarain.

John Foran, who migrated from Ireland to Australia in 1841, was the son of James Foran, a shoemaker, and Jane Redmond. John was born in Queens County, Ireland in about 1811 and at the age of 26 in 1837, married Ann Dwyer (born 1817), the daughter of George Dwyer and Sarah Condran (not Condram), in Ireland.
