I've finally managed to confirm that Elizabeth Umpherston was the sister of my gggrandfather Adam Umpherston. She died at Eccles, Berwickshire in 1874. I don't know where she is buried. I discovered that George Ford was a miller for some years at Kimmerghame Mill near Duns on the Kimmerghame Estate owned by the Swinton family. I believe someone from New Zealand visited there recently. Any idea who it was? I have some more details of the family now but still no idea why they went to New Zealand as yet. Any idea when they arrived there as that might help?
