I'd recommend ftdna as well. They are very professional and their Ford database continues to expand. It is also very easy to compare your results to those of other participants to check for matches. They have it all laid out in a spreadsheet.
I would not bother with the mtDNA (female line) tests, though, because in my situation, my profile matches thousands of others, and that has not been very useful.
I would, instead, put all my money into a 67-marker yDNA test to begin with. You need a direct male descendent to do this, obviously. I got my uncle to do it (Because he is my mother's brother, his mtDNA matches my own, which saved me from having to put in a sample myself for the female line). Then, later, if you want more, there is no need to send in more samples. You simply order upgrades and they use the initial samples.
The sampling is effortless. A cheek swab. Two, actually, in case you mess up on one which is near impossible.
