Classification: Query
Surnames: Ford
I am seeking more information about this man. (This is related to my previous post about John Waller Ford, Sept. 8 2012, in this forum.
Thomas W. Ford was the son of Leonidas N. and Nanny (Nancy) B. Ford, and grandson of John W. Ford. According to the 1880 census, Leonidas’ son Thomas W. Ford was born in Georgia in 1864. The 1900 census indicates he was born in 1864 Oct in Tennessee. It appears that Thomas always lived in Chattanooga.
1870, Ward 3, Chattanooga
Leonidas N Ford 44 – Printer
Nancy B Ford 41 - Keeping House, b. Alabama
Willie O Ford 8 - at home
Thomas W Ford 6 - at home

In the 1880 census, he was in his father’s household along with his brother, Willie O.
Leonida N. Ford 54
Nannie B. Ford 50
William O. Ford 18
Thomas W. Ford 16 – works in printing office
Martha Taylor 53

In 1900, Thomas is still unmarried and is living with his brother in Ward 6, Chattanooga:
William O Ford 36
Kathyrn C Ford 23
Elveh T Ford 2
Thomas W Ford 33 – listed as inventor
Angie E Wood 19
Alice M Wood 15

I’ve not found him in the 1910 census.

So, from the census listing, it appears that he is the same Thomas Waller Ford who filed patents on at least three inventions:

30 Nov 1895 - A patent for a combination hook and ladder truck & fire escape was filed by Thomas Waller Ford, along with John Anderson Lee, Sr., both of Chattanooga, (witnesses: A. M. Johnson and R. M. Watkins) - with a “specification” filed 4 Jan 1898. Image obtained from Ancestry.com digital records.

10 Nov 1903, a patent for a better umbrella was filed by Thomas Walter (with a T) Ford of Chattanooga (Witnesses: W. H. Payne, Jr. and J. L. Faust)Ancestry.com digital records.

24 Mar 1917, a patent for a Shutter Signal and Lock For Cameras was filed by Thomas Waller Ford (witnesses: Geo W. Wagner and L. A. Downer) http://www.google.com/patents/US1262657?printsec=abstract#v=...

There is also a man named Thomas Walter (with a T) Ford who lived in Chattanooga and shared the same birth month and year. He played major league baseball in the 19th century!
Thomas Walter Ford

Death: May 26, 1917

Chattanooga, Hamilton Co., TN

Thomas Walter Ford (October, 1866 to May 27, 1917) was a American Association pitcher. Ford played for Columbus Solons and the Brooklyn Gladiators in the 1890 season. He played in 8 games in his one year career, having a 0-6 record.
Ford was born and died in Chattanooga, Tennessee.

So I am wondering if there are there are two Thomas W. Fords born in Oct 1860 in Chattanooga, or if this information is all about one person?
