I am searching for the parents or any siblings of my grt grt grandfather, Elijah Forester born in Tennessee in 1826. Have reason to believe he may have had a brother named James any help you can offer would be appreciated. Elijah married Linny E. England and lived most of his life in or around Oregon County, Missouri.

Hi,
I ran across your query while trying to do some research on the same Forester family. Here's what I know....

John & Sarah had these children:

1. John 1796 married Milley
They had at least 3 kids - 2 girls & a boy

2.Eli?

3.Arthur C Born 1805 married Sarah Musgrove in 1834

4.William M 1799 or 1800 married Rachel Johnston
They had
Nancy Adelaide
William B
Sarah Cooper
Samuel Johnston
John Sloan
Mary Franklin

5. James?

6.Alfred James Born 1808 married Isabella Hammond in 1877
They had Sarah Virginia
John T
Mary Caroline
Dianah
H. Arthur
Millard Fillmore
Laura

Sarah Virginia is our direct relative. We know that she married Albert Forester who is her 1st cousin. What we don't know is who Albert's father was. He must have been the son of one of John & Sarah's kids, but who? Maybe John....

I have more info on the ancestors of John & Sarah which I will share if you are interested

I keep reviewing your inquiry and am wondering if your James Forester whom you mention may be a brother to my grt. grt. grandfather, Elijah Forester. Elijah was born in Tennessee but we only recently found he had a brother James with family in Tennessee. James and his wife were killed during the Civil War by carpetbaggers and the children were left to various families to raise. My grt. grt. grandfather, Elijah took one of the boys and raised him with his family in southern Missouri. Do you know the names of James' children and wife or who James' parents were so I can check further if these families are related? Thank you in advance!

I found the following in my notes:

(((Possible parents of John Frank Forester:)))

Name: Franklin Forester / Age: 8 / Est birth year: <1872> / Birthplace: Tennessee / Relationship to head-of-household: Son / Home in 1880: District 13, Blount, Tennessee / Marital status: Single
Father's name: William T. Forester / Father's birthplace: TN
Mother's name: Mary Forester / Mother's birthplace: TN
Image Source: Year: 1880; Census Place: District 13, Blount, Tennessee; Roll: T9_1245; Family History Film: 1255245; Page: 183.2000; Enumeration District: 197; Image)

I'm wondering if this boy's father, William, is the William you mention. Also could this boy Franklin, be my "John Frank"? The birth year is the same.

They all lived in Oregon.

don't usually do any of this stuff, but y'all are in need. my clan lived in Hickman county,tn. from 1815, and the surrounding counties close. still do. as I am in Tennessee.go over to Hickman county once in a great while. forester/forrester, is spelled 2 ways there. there is a forrester road, and a forester ridge road in Hickman county. there is an old cemetery on Forrester road, with a bunch of marked and unmarked graves. they are spelled both ways. I know there were families there of each spelling. in 1860 there were a lot of Forester's in district 8 for sure. it is high hills and pretty valleys, with clear water and peaceful. good luck. Charles Forrester ps. I have a son named John.

My great great grandfather, Lewis Forester had sons, John , Frank, William Thomas,Joseph, James Andrew, and Marcus. John and Frank were killed in the Civil War in 1863. James also died in 1863. William and Joseph remained in Blount County,Tennessee, but I don't know what became of Marcus. He would have been the right age (born 1852) to have been your John's father. I have no idea if they are related or not but looking at the names he could have been named after his two uncles killed in the war.

FORESTER & BAKER in Gibson Co., TN

Hi,

I'm looking for info on the following people who were in Gibson County, TN during the period of 1820 - 1850.

There was a Josiah Baker who was married to Mary J. Forester in 1834 in Gibson County.

There was Samuel Baker who was married to Anne Forrester in 1828. I found one website where a person had her listed as Elizabeth Annie Forrester, but that's all I've found.

I am descended from Josiah Baker and Mary J. Forester. I suspect that there may be a connection between him and Samuel Baker, maybe a brother or something. Also, it's possible if they were brothers that their father may have been named Samuel also. That is pretty much guess work at this point, but I'm doing my digging. I do know that Josiah Baker was born in Kentucky, but don't know when he would have come to Tennessee.

I'm not sure what the relationship might be between Anne Forrester and Mary J. Forester, but figure there's a good chance they were related. I've found some info on Forresters in Gibson County, but can't find anything on Mary J. other than the marriage record.

If anyone can shed some light on any of these people or their relationships, I'd certainly appreciate the help. I'm at a brick wall on both the Forrester and Baker lines in Gibson County.

Thanks,
Randall Baker
Re: FORESTER & BAKER in Gibson Co., TN

Hi Bill,

Thanks for replying to my query. Since I posted it, I have come up with more answers to my questions. I now believe that my Mary J. Forrester was the daughter of Mark Forrester(Forrest) and Talitha Cantrell who came to Tennessee from South Carolina. He would later live and die in Greene County, Arkansas. That area would later become Clay County, Arkansas. My Josiah Baker and wife, Mary J. Forrester, later moved to that area, as well.

I'm still not too sure about my Baker lineage beyond Josiah Baker, but still suspect a connection to the Samuel Baker that married Ann Forrester. I believe this Ann Forrester is also the daughter of Mark and Talitha Forrester, making her a sister to my Mary. Incidentally, they also had an older sister named Jane Forrester born about 1806.

I do not know of your Francis Newton Forester. Do you know of any connection with the family of Mark Forrester, or if his family's origins were in South Carolina? They may well be related in some manner or another.

Thanks again for the response.

Randall Baker
Hope this is helpful! Do you have any information on Linny E. England (wife of Elijah)date of death/cause of death?, or any information on Elijah's second wife Arrena P. Blankenship; or Elijah's parents names ( I have recently found a note stating possibly father was John b. 1784 in South Carolina but his mother is still unknown.
The article of his wife's death states his name as G. F. Forester in error. She was Ida Forester.

Appears in "The Wapanucka Press" 8 September 1904, Wapanucka, Johnston County, Indian Territory, now Oklahoma

DEATH OF C. F. FORESTER

C. F. Forester, who had suffered for several week with typhoid fever finally submitted to death’s call Friday morning half past one o’clock, following his wife who preceded him only a few days.

Mr. Forester was a young, ambitious man, just in the prim of life, full of hopes, and a man of sterling worth. The death of himself, and wife only a few days apart, spread heart-broken gloom over the city among many friends and relatives with whom he had lived and mingled.

The deceased leaves two little children without mother or father. Burial took place Friday evening at city cemetery.

Seeking any and all information on the parents of Elijah Forester born 1826/27 in Tennessee died 1918 Missouri. He is the father of Thomas Daniel Forester born 1861 Missouri died 1935 Missouri. Think his fathers name may be John or John W. possibly from South Carolina. Contact can be made at ritathompson@cox.net.

Looking for descendants of Harry Forester (died: 1994 in Marion,MA). He was married to the daughter of Massachusetts governor Eugene Foss. I'm trying to complete a tree. Thanks.

http://www.sturtevantfan.com/Genealogy.html
