I am trying to find roots for my gg grandfather Thomas Forgan b. Scotland 1825-1828 (?) He is on 1870 census in Beaver County, PA, USA married to Euphemia (Ritchie)and sons Thomas J. b.1868 and David R. That's the last I can trace him for sure. It is confusing because both names are common in the Scottish records at that time. Anyone with info, please help!

Feel free to email at nieman85@msn.com

Thanks,
Kathy

Hi Clay

I have just seen your email re your name Forgan. I find this a very unusual name. I am tracing my ex-husband's ancestry for my children. His surname is Scrymgeour. His great grandfather was David Steel (born 28-6-1848) and he married Frances Ada Forgan either in Kent, England or Glasgow, Scotland. She was born about 1852 in Kent. I have tried to trace her through the IGI and the English births, marriages and deaths but to no avail. She was in Springburn, Glasgow in 1901, with her son David Mathew Steel. I come from Birmingham originally but have lived in Scotland for 41 years. I am also tracing my own family and have gone back to 1742 so far. By the way I have cousins in Montreal. Donald Scrymgeour's uncle lived in Halifax. Please let me know what you have found out so far or if you can help me.

Regards.

sheila.beck

FORGAN - ST. ANDREWS, SCOTLAND

Many years ago, there was a company that manufactured golf clubs - by the name of Forgan. I know it no longer exists but I would like to know what happened to the businessd and whether thre are any of the family still around. I had a few clubs made by them when I was young.
Thanks.
David.
dmpaterson@ns.sympatico.ca

Nice to 'speak' to you Sandy. I am a direct descendant of Katherin Forgan (married to Peter Liddle). Daughter of Robert Forgan and Catherine Paterson. I have quite a bit of information on Katherin's line if you would like to share. Let me know.

Angie

Spalding stopped production at the Forgan factory on the Links in St Andrews in the 1960s, and the building was turned into the St Andrews Woollen Mill. This has now been sold to the R&A and they have converted it into offices.

I'm a descendent of Robert's son Thomas, who carried on the business after his father.

Hi David
Unfortunately the business does not exist today. It was bought over by Spalding around 1943/44. I am not directly descended to Robert Forgan - his paternal grandfather, also called Robert is my 5x Great Grandfather. There are direct descendants also researching this family - I can put you in touch if you like.
