Sgt. Albert A. Forgue, of North Providence, R.I. WW II MIA Identified

IMMEDIATE RELEASE No. 132-08
February 15, 2008
Missing WWII Airmen Are Identified

The Department of Defense POW/Missing Personnel Office (DPMO) announced today that the remains of three U.S. servicemen, missing from World War II, have been identified and will be returned to their families for burial with full military honors.

They are Sgt. Albert A. Forgue, of North Providence, R.I.; . . . all U.S. Army Air Forces. They will be buried on April 18 in Arlington National Cemetery near Washington, D.C.

Representatives from the Army met with the next-of-kin of these men in their hometowns to explain the recovery and identification process and to coordinate interment with military honors on behalf of the Secretary of the Army.

On Dec. 12, 1944, these men crewed an A-20J Havoc aircraft departing from Coullomiers, France, to bomb enemy targets near Wollseifen, Germany. The aircraft was last seen entering a steep dive near Cologne, Germany. Several searches and investigations of this area and reviews of wartime documents failed to provide information concerning the incident.

In 1975, a German company clearing wartime mines and unexploded ordnance near Simmerath, Germany, reported the discovery of a gravesite northeast of Simmerath where American servicemembers were buried. U.S. officials evaluated the remains and determined they represented three individuals, but they could not make identifications at that time. The remains were subsequently buried as unknowns in the Ardennes American Military Cemetery in Neupre, Belgium.

In 2003, the Joint POW/MIA Accounting Command (JPAC) was notified that a group of German citizens had information correlating the three servicemembers who were buried as unknowns with the crew from the 1944 A-20J crash. Based on that information, JPAC exhumed the three unknown graves from the Ardennes American Military Cemetery in 2005.

Among dental records, other forensic identification tools and circumstantial evidence, scientists from JPAC and the Armed Forces DNA Identification Laboratory also used mitochondrial DNA in the identification of the remains.

For additional information on the Defense Department's mission to account for missing Americans, visit the DPMO web site at http://www.dtic.mil/dpmo/ or call (703) 699-1169.

http://www.defenselink.mil/releases/release.aspx?releaseid=1...

Re: Forgue Edouard 1879, Canada

A Mrs. Albert Santos of Oakland, California sent a copy of a newspaper article entitled "My Grandmother's Story" to a member of the Reese family, who sent it to me. It was from a paper in St. Johnsonville, NY.
It's about a lady named Madgdalena Helmer who was captured at the age of l3 by an Indian raiding party and carried into Canada. An Indian woman who had lost a daughter about her age took her in and was kind to her. Some time later the captives were released and returned to their families in New York. This Magdalena married Mark(s) Reese and had at least two sons that we know of, and maybe more. She survived yet another raid on their home, when the toddler Samuel was scalped and left for dead and the babe in arms was Adam. In the camp that night she discovered one of the Indians was from the tribe which had earlier captured her and was a friend. He helped her escape.
On another occasion he warned her of yet another raid and they were "gone" when the Indians arrived. In his old age he came to her doorstep with no family left. She gave him a cabin on her land and he lived there until his death and was buried in the family plot. The child Samuel was discovered by his father who saw the smoke of the burning cabin and ran home. But he always wore a cap on his head to cover the scars. Magdalena outlived Martin and may have married again. She died at l07 at her spinning wheel.
Now...the person who wrote the articles (3) was Sue Jennings. The story she told was told her by her maternal grandmother Letitia Winchell Reese. I noticed you have the surname Santos, and a Canada connection. Its a long shot, but maybe this story will be of some help to you.

This couple had 7 children that I know of. Marie-Anne, Augustin, Joseph, Josette, Marie-Dorothée, Marie-Ursule and Pierre.
Hi,
There were two Forgue families that lived in the Kankakee area. They were distantly related, but probably didn't know it at the time. What are your grandparents names? Do you know who your great grandparents were. I have the Forgue family genealogy back to the 1500's.
Holly Forgue

Re: Forgue Edouard 1879, Canada

Janice,
I am hunting for a connection to the Native American 'Snoqualmie' Tribe in which a 'George Casimir' FORGUE married Mary Ann COURVILLE in Washington state in 1891. He is said to be from Quebec, went to Washington state, married and had two children, then returned to Quebec leaving the children in an orphanage in Washington. I have, so far, been unable to determine his parents. see: www.forgue.com/WC10/WC10_045.htm

Also can you provide any help on www.forgue.com/WC13/WC13_363.htm ? I would appreciate any added information you could provide.

Don
www.forgue.com

Honora Delia Ruth Forgue (daughter of Edward and Silvina)
Married Manual Santos
Manual Albert Santos (one of their sons)
was my father.

I am looking at ancestory for a different end. I am looking for Native lineage. In those days, it was to be hidden. But I am being guided that it is there.
If it is not in the Forgue lineage then I need to look farther starting with Honora Benoit.
can you give me any info that would help me.
I think it will be of the "Blackfeet" nation.

thanks for anything you can tell me.
janice a santos

Hi,
I would like to know if anyone is researching Joseph Forgue, (m. Elizabeth Morin), of Borbonnais/Kankakee, Illinois. This may be a "round-a-bout way" of doing this, but I'm stuck on his wife's family and hope someone else has had more success than I have. I have lot's of info to share.
Holly
