They had a "baby" May 18, 1903 in Flatlands, Braxton, W.Va. I have Nathan's grandparents and further back if your interested, although not formally documented.

Hi again Krestyna
I have Hannah (Peterson) as Jacob H. Forinash's (William's brother) second wife. Their children were Betsy, Malinda, Henry, Lorenzo Dow, Elias P. ,Jonas C., Oliver C. and Anna. Jacob had died in 1938, so was not on the 1940 census. Can't really match up numbers with people and their ages in the census. Let me know if I can give you any further info. I know this search has been puzzling to say the least.

Thank you.

Do you know the names of their children?

It is her children I am interested in. Wondering if my Gr.Gr. grandfather was her son. His name was Nathan Wesley Fornash/Forinash born about 1820 in VA. per census records.
I can not find him anywhere prior to the 1850 census and the earliest record I have of him is his marriage in 1844 in Scioto Co. Ohio. I can not find anything before 1844 in Ohio or Virginia on Nathan. It's like he just dropped from the sky in Ohio. LOL

Any help in discovering his parents and making a connection to the Virginia Forinash families would be great.
Thanks!

I don't know if this is the right Hannah Forinash you were searching for, but ther was a Hannah Forinash, nee Peterson, married to Jacob Forinash Sr. He died in April 6, l836. I believe they had 3 girls and 4 boys. She was the second wife of Jacob I believe. Acording to my records he was born in 1803 and died in (unknown) but was married to Jacob in 1822.

I don't have much on the Castos. Only that James L. Forinash married Fern C. Casto on Oct. 15, 1922 in WV. Looks like she was around 15. He was 10 years older. On the 1930 census, it shows them and their children William D.(6), Agnes A. (3) and Eugene L. (1). I do have James L.'s obit(which is a mystery as it was in my husband's Aunt Mildred Forinash Slavens' bible. His obit also lists other children, Rosella( Mrs. Frank Banyai)of Maryland, Larry, of Ohio,Geraldine (Mrs. James Woods), and Cathryn(Mrs. Richard Jezowski of Hamburg.
The only other thing I have on Fern is that she was born Nov.9, 1905 in Upshur, WV and died, Sept. 1, 2001 in Keyser, Mineral, WV. James was also born in Upshur on Oct. 8, 1896 and d. March 8, 1977 in Pinckney, MI.
I do have a Forinash family letter dated Nov. 13, 1957 that mentions James and Fern. It is from the Journal of the Allegheny Regional Ancestors.
Hope this helps. Barbara

Hello,
I am also looking for this branch of Forinashs' and Castos'. I am looking for more info on my grandfathers family which includes a Fern Casto that married a Forinash. I would like the siblings names of Fern that you mentioned. I can look up census reports thru Ancestry.com, all I need to know is where and that sort of info. I would also like any other info on Fern. Also, in one of the posts you mention James Farinashs' parents, and that his father married a Tenney, my grandfathers father (David Gideon Casto) married a Mae Tenney... does anyone know if Sarah Tenney is related to a May Tenney?? Their parents??
Thanks for any help you can give to me. I also have Wilbur's (my grandfathers) obit that mentions other siblings names and also I have a newspaper article about one of his sisters and her husbands store that they ran. I would love to share any and all that I have on this family if anyone wants it. Please respond to: dbkkellogg@yahoo.com
Thanks,
Debbie

Hi Debbie,
Glad you found this message board. Barbara filled you in on the basics of our "quest". My grandfather & mother both used the Fornash spelling, but we are for sure Forinashs of the Nathan Wesley Forinash, Sr. line from Scioto Co., Ohio. My great grandfather came to Arkansas before 1893 from Ohio (as far as I know) and settled in Conway County, AR. I'm definitely related to Barbara's Forinashs.
Keep in touch,
Alan Dunsworth

Hi Debbie
I looked around and cannot connect any of the names, but that doesn't necessarily mean that there isn't one. I will be interested in what your aunt has found. As you have probably read, we Forinash's (some Fornash's) have hit a wall in finding Nathan Wesley Forinash's parents. He was born in Virginia in approx. 1820, which is where our line comes from. Nathan and Eliza Ann Rut Steen had 15 children, so maybe one or more of their decendents ended up in KY??? I will let you know if I find anything and you do the same. Thanks! B

I was just searching and came upon this message board. I have no idea if I am related or not but thought I might see. I am Debbie Fornash born in Columbus Ohio to James Delbert Fornash who was born in Newport, Ky and is son of Carlos Franklin Fornash Sr also of Newport, Ky. My grandfather is son of Samuel Fornash of Ky. All I know about my great grandfather Samuel is that he was born a few years before the civil war and he was 1 of 20 something children. My aunt has been researching the family so I will ask if we happen to be related to anyone here. I do know that at one time our name had an I in it.

Debbie Fornash
drf0624@aol.com

Hi again
What info. are you looking for? This branch of the Forinash tree connects to my mother-in-law's at Charles Forinash b.1750 In Harrison County, VA. He married Mary Bozarth and one of their children was William who married Mary Anne Alltop (This is our branch), and another one of their children was Jacob H. who married Hannah Petterson and had a child Lorenzo, who married Eliza Wimer and had Charles Ellis Forinash, who married Sarah E. Tenney, who bore James L who married Fern Casto--which is your branch. Let me know what you want to know. The only reason I have filled in this branch was because my husband's aunt had James L. Forinash's obit in her bible and I was/am puzzled as to how she knew him and how they were connected. So-----I tracked him back and they connect at Charles.
Let me know what information you are looking for.

Hi Alan!
I have not corresponded with you, but have heard and read e-mail from you. I was in contact with Amy, Jessie and Krestyna---and Martella's son, Tom called me a couple of weeks ago--hopefully we can share some photos and info. Anyway, I had lost touch with all you Forinash contributors. Guess everyone was taking a break. I can understand that.

My mother in law is Ruth Louise Forinash Bassett. Her father was Oscar and his father was William Henry (your g-grandfather's brother, right?) I have Charles F. as the first born of Nathan and Eliza. I don't have any other info. to add unfortunately. I do have all their childrens names, but not all bd, dd, children, spouses of all. Would be nice to have your branch info. to fill in my program.

I told Krestyna that I had always wondered why my mother in law's sister, Mildred had an obit in her Bible of James L. Forinash? He died on March 8, 1977 in WV, son of Charles and Sarah Tenney Forinash, married to Fern Casto. She said she wished I knew what our connection to him was and that it might be the link we are looking for. 40 years? It has got to be frustrating. Keep me updated should anything break-and just stay in touch. Thanks! B
Hi Barbara,
Just another descendant of Nathan W. Forinash, Sr....wondering where he came from! I'm a not too distant cousin of Krestyna Maples. My grandfather was Frederick Columbus Fornash (1893-1978) of Morrilton, Arkansas. His father was Charles Frederick Forinash, a son of Nathan Wesley Forinash, Sr. of Ohio. My grandfather dropped the "i" in Forinash sometime around WWI. I've been searching the Forinash/Fornash line for nearly 40 years!!! Would like to hear from you...best wishes.

Hello Barbara,
So Charles was a cousin? Do you still have the paper? If so, could you email me a copy of what it says?
I have thought for about 2 years now that William and Ann Alltop-Forinash were Nathan Wesley Forinash's parents. Considering that people named their first born after their parents, well Nathan's first born son was named William and his first born daughter was Mary Ann. A few years ago when I first started researching and didn't know to save every tidbit of information to help solve the puzzle, I found a record online that had Ann Alltop listed as Mary Ann Alltop, but I can't find it now. Both William and Ann are the right age to be Nathan's parents, their marriage is a few years before Nathan was born and their location in Virginia and Kentucky are both positives for them being Nathan's parents.
But nothing proof positive has been found yet to make that connection. That's why I was asking about the paper you found in the bible. It just may be the puzzle piece we need.
Hi
Do you remember that I told you that I found James L. Forinash's obit in my husbands aunts Bible? Well I think I found a connection back to Charles b. 1750. Anyway, that makes James L her 3rd cousin once removed. I don't know how they really knew each other, and all this is not officially documented, just put two families together. Charles had Jacob, who had Lorenzo, who had Charles Ellis who had James L. Charles was b. 1750 in Harrison VA or WV (there is a question here that I need to investigate) and married Mary Bozarth. One of their children was William who married Mary Ann Alltop. That leaves us still looking for their children. I'll let you know if I find out anything else. B
