Margot Fortuna Dies Suddenly

Miss Margot Fortuna, 32, of 640 Arthur street, popular radio announcer for station WAZL, who had charge of the Women's Feature and the Story Lady programs, died suddenly this morning at her home at 10:00 o'clock. She was apparently in good health yesterday when she performed her usual duties at the broadcasting station.
Miss Fortuna was graduated from the Hazleton High School class of 1934 and from Ithaca College, Ithaca, New York, in 1939. While a student in high school and college she was outstanding in dramatics.
She assumed her duties with WAZL in January 1947 and featured in her program many notable radio and screen stars. Just this week she had Allen Jenkins of movie fame as her guest star.
Her regular Women's Feature Program was heard daily at 1:30 p.m. over WAZL, and her "Story Lady" program Tuesday and Thursday mornings.
In addition to being active in radio work, Miss Fortuna achieved region-wide recognition in dramatics by her outstanding acting as leading lady in the play "Mr. and Mrs. North" produced by the Little Theater Group of the Y.W.C.A., of which she was a member. She also served as commentator for many fashion shows in town.
She was a member of St. John's G.C. Church.
Surviving are her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Michael Fortuna, and the following brothers and sisters: Mrs. Nicholas Burdash, Hazleton; Michael, Jr. and Paul, at home; Mrs. John Currilla, Jr. of Riverdale, MD; Mrs. Paul Rotruck of Washington, D.C.
The funeral will be held Tuesday at 8:30 a.m. from the Bonin Funeral home, 544 North Wyoming Street. A requiem high mass will be celebrated in St. John's G.C. Church with interment in the parish cemetery.
Friends may call Sunday and Monday afternoons and evenings until ten o’clock.
Radio station employees were shocked to hear of their co-worker's sudden death.

NOTES: Margot's real name was Margaret. Her sister Mary, married Nicholas Burdash; she had two other sisters: Velma and Ethel. I don't know which one married Currilla and which married Rotruck.

I am researching my grandfather as well Paolo Fortuna ancestory and he came over 1900 and 1920. I am not sure if he would be the same one. Paolo ended up working the coal mines in Vivian WV and had 12 children. Could we have the same grandfather. I was looking at the ship manifest nad there were several Paolo Fortuna's that come over during that time period

My Grandfather was Luigi fortuna who was Married to Caterina LaBella. He came to the U.S. in 1905 and she in 1912, they residied in St ALbans Vermont.
