Robert S. Fotek
Active Legionnaire Robert S. Fotek, 64, of Erie,pa,
passed away Tuesday, March 15, 2011 at the Veterans Affairs Medical Center. He was born in Erie on June 20, 1946, son of the late Stephen and Anna Fotek. Robert graduated as valedictorian in 1964 from Technical Memorial and attended Gannon University in Mechanical Engineering. He was a US Army veteran serving in Vietnam in the 1st Infantry Division, 101st Airborne Division. He was a recipient of the Bronze Star, Army Commendation Medal, two Overseas Bars and an Expert Badge in Machine Gun. Robert was also a member of St. James R.C. Church. He worked at American Meter and then at Smith Meter until his retirement. Robert was a member of American Legion Post #571 for 39 years and had served as Post Commander, Chaplain; Erie County Commander and Finance Officer; and District Deputy Commander, Adjutant Chaplain. He was also a member of VFW Post #4789 in North for 24 years and had served as Post Commander and Adjutant. Robert was a 25 year member of the 40&8 Voiture Locale 462, Erie Crawford Co. and had served as Chief de Gare CCmdr; a 15 year member of the Military Order of the Cootie and had served as Pup Tent 24 Commander, Finance Officer and Adjutant; 22 year member of Sons of the American Legion; 9 year member of Vietnam Veterans of America; 6 year member of Legion of Honor, Chapel of Four Chaplains; the Society of 1st Infantry Division; 101st Airborne Division Association; a 19 year member of the Siebenbuerger Club and was a blood donor for 28 years, donating 21 gallons. Robert is survived by two sisters, Carol Spencer (Reid) and Barbara Anderson (Rick), all of Greene Twp.; two nieces, Mary Spencer Thaler (Terry) and Holly Anderson; one nephew, Gregory Anderson (Angela); and a great-niece, Chloe Thaler. He was preceded in death by his sister, Linda Fotek. Friends may call at the Dusckas Funeral Home, Inc., East, 2607 Buffalo Rd., on Thursday from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. and 6 p.m. to 8 p.m., and are invited to attend a Prayer Service there on Friday at 10 a.m. followed by a Funeral Mass at 10:30 a.m. at St. James R.C. Church. A full military service will follow at Wintergreen Gorge Cemetery conducted by Carl Neff Post #571. Carl Neff Post #571 will hold a service at the funeral home on Thursday at 6 p.m. Erie Times-News on March 16, 2011 .
