The photo is of the York & Lancaster Regiment dtd 24 Aug 1929.

Search for "1920s York and Lancaster Regiment". Perhaps someone has him in their tree!

I notice that there are a number of researchers that are at the James Fothergill & Mary Parkin Brick Wall. James was born in 1699/1700 at Deepgill. His parents were John Fothergill and Isabel Rudd. His grandparents were John Fothergill & Jane Birkbeck --also of Deepgill. James is usually associated with the Birkrigg-A line which Richard Fothergill published in Volume 2. He gives further, though somewhat sketchy, coverage of the Deepgill line in Volume 1.

If this is your line, I would be glad to share further details. I am a direct decendant of Michael Alonzo Fothergill b.1841, and have detailed information about my side of the family. I have been thoroughly scouring the census data, and may even have some information about your side under Benjamin James Fothergill. Send me an email so we can get in touch and share info! Thanks,
Tom.

I know that it's been years since the last post on this topic, but I'm hoping that it's not too late to join in. I'm a part of this (seemingly scattered) family tree. John Wesley Fothergill was my great grandfather, John Wesley Jr. is my grandfather, Wesley Daykin Fothergill is my father. I have one sister; Brooklynne Fothergill, and if you are interested I can provide you the names and locations of (most) John Wesley Jr.'s Decendants!

If you still have that photograph of Joseph Fothergill, I would love to have a copy. I am very interested in my ancestry, and would also be interested in any family tree that may have been put together at this point!

Hi Jackie, thank you for your message. I am aware of Hannahs marriage in 1809, but have not linked her to my tree as yet. I have a George Fothergill born 1854
who married a Hannah who lived in St. George. but
his fathers name was William. I have been researching the Fothergills of Bristol for many years and I have got back to the late 1700 s at that time there were only two Fothergill families in Bristol.
The best source of information on the Fothergills is Richard Fothergill who has published a book called
"The Fothergills" a first History, a second book should now be available. The publishers are R.F.G.Hollett &Son E-Mail hollett@sedburgh.demon.co.uk
Reg.

I have a Hannah FOTHERGILL bca 1809 St George who married William LOCKE on 29 July 1833 in Bristol St Paul. Their children were Hannah Sarah; Jemima; Sarah Morton(I); Louisa; John; Lavinia; Sarah Morton(II) who married John William SMALLCOMBE - this pair are my family line. A Matilda FOTHERGILL bca1852 Nova Scotia is staying with Hannah LOCKE nee FOTHERGILL in 1871at 7 Hill Street, Bristol St Paul. I believe Matilda to be the wife of George FOTHERGILL bca 1850 Bristol, the son of Abraham, a shoemaker, who I believe was bp 22 January 1826 St George, son of George FOTHERGILL and Mary. My hunch is that Hannah could be Abraham's sister but I have nothing that can prove this link.

Do any of these FOTHERGILLs link into your family tree?

Regards

Jackie ELLISON

It is very tiny so I will have to have it copied and blown up if possible. The picture was taken aroun 1885 or so.
I have been going through the information you sent and checking all the census recordes for more documentation.

Also seeking linkages into the Fothergill family, in and about Ripon. The wife of Richard RUTTER, b. Ripon 30 Jan 1824 in Ripon is shown in the 1881 census to be married to a Sarah Ann FOTHERGILL, b. abt 1824 in Seal, Kent. I have other evidence(bibles/prayer books etc) which suggests that Richard RUTTER was married to a Mary Ann FOTHERGILL, b.6 Aug 1826 at Witton-le-Wear and d. 14 Feb 1865. Further information lists a John and Elizabeth FOTHERGILL who were listed in a ill of another relie who died in 1924.
Interested to make contact and help unravel the mystery.
Raymond J Seymour, Wellington, NZ

Hi there

My great great grandparents were William Fothergill and Eleanor Pattison. My great grandfather was Richard Fothergill born 1840 and my great grandmother was Richard's sister Mary Fothergill born 1830, both were children of William and Eleanor. My grandparents were first cousins which explains why both Richard and Mary are both my great grandparents.

Regards Brenda

Mary Isabella Lewis was born on 6 April 1855, I have a copy of her birth certificate. She married George Robinson son of James Robinson a Richmond grocer, on 10 Sept 1875 and I have a copy of the registry for that. In the 1881 census this couple is living with his father in Bargate Richmond. They had one son Lewis and a daughter Anna. My husband's grandfather james was born in America. Mary Isabella's sister Ann married George Ralph Wade and they had a daughter Mabel. Sister Eliza married James Peacock. Your Elizabeth Jane married Christopher Barker. I noticed him in the 1881 census with no wife and Bertha was living with her grandparents.

There is a business directory for Richmond on line that lists Matthew Lewis carpenter from Sleegil and others in our family lines.

Hi Lillian,

Yes - Elizabeth married Christopher - she died shortly after the birth of my great grandmother' Bertha Barker. I don't have any records of Wade or Peacock. Bertha maried Thomas Futers in Richmond on 1903. (By pure coincidence, I was born in Catterick Camp (my father was stationed there several times) - so I know the area a little.

I'd be very interested to swap any details I have - and as per my posting am very curious to get any details on the Fothergill and Pattison lines.

Feel free to e-mail me offline. I use the ftw software and would be happy to send you an extract or relevant details.

Regards,

Peter

Also do the surnames Wade and or Peacock connect with this line? Looking forward to hearing from you.

Just saw the correspondence on William Fothergill & Eleanor Pallison (Patterson).
I am a descendent through Ann Fothergill who married Mathew Lewis - and then through their daughter Elizabeth Jane Lewis.
I have details of William Fothergill in 1851 & 1871 Census and of Eleanor in 1851, 1871 and 1881 census. Also the buruials of both in Hipswell. Also the Lewis descendents in varuious census.
I have had no luck tracing either Elizabeth Pallison or William Fothergill back any further. The reference to pattison helps clear up the mystery on one side. Does anyone have any deuials on William?
Thanks,
Peter

I am looking for my aunt Freda Mary Busy Linge who married Thomas William Pattison on 9th March 1940 at the register office in West Hartlepool. Thomas Pattison was a musician and was aged 30. His address was 163 Burbank Street. His father was Joseph Pattison and was a market gardner. His witness at the wedding was W Fothergill. Can you shed any light on this.

Thank you

Fiona
