I know your message is over two years old. I am just starting on my family research. Velma Fought was my grandmother. She was creamated and her ashes were sprinkles in Lake Michigan.

She had three children with her first husband, including my dad. She was born in Illinois and moved to wisconsin. She also had another son Edward but I don't remember his last name, but it is not fought.

PLEASE NOTE, THIS WAS POSTED FOR REFERENCE ONLY. I AM NOT RELATED TO, NOR AM I RESEARCHING THIS FAMILY, I’VE ONLY DONE A COPY AND PASTE FROM OUR LOCAL NEWSPAPER FYI.

THIS INFO HAS BEEN POSTED WITH THE PERMISSION OF THE EDITOR OF THE COLUMBIA BASIN HERALD.

Clyde Fought
Posted: Tuesday, Sep 16, 2008 - 03:20:27 pm PDT
COLUMBIA BASIN HERALD, MOSES LAKE, WASHINGTON

Clyde Fought died on Sept. 9, 2008, at Avalon Care Center in Othello surrounded by his family.

Laddie Clydell Fought, better known as Clyde Fought Sr., was born in Oshkosh, Neb., on Aug. 5, 1921, to Lloyd and Bessie Fought. As a young man, Clyde was drawn to farming, but the economics of the day delayed that passion for a few years.

Clyde married Viola Albee on May 29, 1941, in Ogalalla, Neb. They were blessed with eight children. From late 1941 until his 1945 discharge, Clyde served in the U.S. Army. He participated in D-Day and other major European battles. Back in Nebraska, Clyde worked in the masonry trade. When work became scarce in Oshkosh, Clyde joined his brother-in-law in Othello in 1952 to do masonry work for Massar Construction. Work got scarce in Othello after a year and Clyde returned with his family to Gering, Neb. However, he liked Othello so much that he returned to Adams County in 1954, again teaming up with his brother-in-law to do the brick work for the former Peoples Bank, now the public library. Always reminded of his passion for farming, Clyde eventually landed a position with the Gunnell family and started his career in farming. He later worked for Livingston Farms as their farm manager. He purchased his farm in the early 1960s. He resided there until his death.

Clyde is survived by his four sons and four daughters: Clyde, Jr. (Jeannie), John (Dena), Tim (Birdie) of Othello, Dale (Tresha) of Silver Peak, Nev.; Harriet (Larry) Hawley and Theresa (Mark) Van Landingham of Othello, Judy (Bud) Hawley of Lake Cle Elum and Anita Doucet of Everett. Clyde is also survived by one sister, Josephine Kudrna, of Kearney, Neb. Clyde was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Viola, one great-grandson, his parents, and nine siblings.

Visitation and viewing was held Thursday, Sept. 11, 2008, from 2 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Stevens Funeral Chapel. Funeral Services were Friday, Sept. 12 at 2 p.m. at the Othello Nazarene Church. Burial followed at Bess Hampton Memorial Gardens in Othello. Arrangements were entrusted to Stevens Funeral Chapel.

Got your message, maybe I can help. Do you have Ancestor.com? If not, it is a really good website to use. This is what I found;
Velma O. Fought b. 31 Dec. 1931, d. 12 Nov. 2002 in Racine, WI.
I found a Pamela L. Fought in the 2002 U.S. registry & she is listed at 1408 11th. Racine, WI. phone # 414-637-4152. I am assuming this is Richard's daughter. It would be worth a phone call. If this Velma was Richard's 2nd wife & she is buried in Racine your best bet would be to contact the Genealogy organization there & they may be able to help. Another good site is Random Acts of Genealogical Kindness. They have volunteer researchers that will look up information for free.
I was not able to make any connection to my line of Foughts. That doesn't mean that there isn't one, just haven't made the connection to date. Let me know if you find anything.
Hope this helps,
Dianne Fought Heitmeyer
When they became adults they settled in Hughesville,Pa. Their parents Sam and Orpha Whitmoyer Fought also settled there. There are still Fought's who still live in the old homestead near Millville,Pa. My great great grandfather was John Fought. He was married to Elizabeth Leah Stackhouse Fought. I hope this will help shed some light on your family history. There are family members in New Jersey also.
Leigh

Mark, you might want to expand your search, the spelling of our last name has many variations, including Fought,Fogt,Vogt,Focht and Fout. These names were slaughtered by those that could read and write,With the German accents and the English translaters there was a lot of phonics done, good luck

Marv Focht

Grandpa was born in Paulding Co. Ohio & died in Wayne Co. Michigan in 1950. He did live in Pennsylvania for a time when he was younger. Are you a son of Wayne & Gerry? I am the oldest child of Doyle & Marceil. I have the Fought geneology beginning with the Vogt's in Switzerland. I would love to hear back from you as I am trying to fill in the current relatives & have nothing on Wayn's family except for syblings names.
Dianne

Hi, Kathy. I was looking for a Samuel Fought as well. My Samuel was born in 1895 and married a Mary Hand Vandolah Whicker. They appeared in the census for Indiana, Allen County 1850 together. You placed your Samuel as being born in 1822, but I thought I write just to make certain.

By the way, I found another person researching a Charles Fletcher, I copied everything for you. Hope it helps:

Willis A. Fought: By Vicki Graham on July 31, 1999 answering Ancestors of Willis Fought by Matt:

Willis A Fought (b1887 d1959), son of Charles Fletcher Fought (b1854 d1928) and Anna M (Coldren) Fought (b1862 d1930). Willis' wife name was Alice (b1894 d1941). Charles Fletcher Fought was the son of Samuel M Fought (b1822 d1876) and Eliza A (Newhouse) Fought (b1827 d1901). If this sounds like a connection for you, let me know and I'll dig up some more information for you. P.S. Samuel M Fought and Eliza A (Newhouse) Fought are my great-great grandparents.

this appeared in the Fought site search under Samuel

Fought/Foght Family

Does anyone out there know who the 12 children of David and Veronica Foght were? The only one named in History of Seneca Co., Ohio is David M. Foght, born 6 Mar 1842, in Seneca Co. They were in PA, then Fairfield Co., Ohio, then in Seneca Co. I am trying to find a connection to Anna Fought born 25 Oct 1824 in (I think) Fairfield Co. later lived in McCutchensville, Ohio. She was married to Henry Downey 2 May 1844 in Seneca, Ohio. I think she may have brothers David and Reuben. I"m pretty sure my Fought/Foght family goes back to Jonas Vogt born in 1720 in Basil, Switzerland, as I was given a copy of a small booklet "Vogt History 1750-1911" written by Jacob Weimer Vogt by my Mom"s cousin. In the booklet it says a copy was sent to each family now living (1911). I sure would like to be able to connect with that booklet by finding Anna's family. I am willing to share the info in the booklet.
Laura Byers
