Bead, My Stroman family came to SC (Orangeburg, SC. Check out their web page and the Orangeburg SC Genealogy Society)
A number of German Swiss families immigrated in/around 1740 - 60. They came with a Rev. Griesendanner aboard Dutch vessels. They received permission from the Swiss to immigrate to America. Other of their groups came to PA and I plan to study the names (like Stroman and Sclappy, etc.) for overlap which I imagine meant that they were from the same root families!? I have the Stromans back to a Jacob Strauman b. 1599 in Switzerland. But at one time thay may have come from Germany and before that - Holland!? Dick Matteson College Park, MD
(They appeared to espouse a Lutheran - type religion.)
