Re: where are they

Hi Guy,
I have found recently some interesting info for Joseph Fournier and Domitille Diotte. I don't have found their marriage (It's seem they were married in Lancaster, ON). I have retraced 8 of their children but I don't where they were all born. I have retraced some baptisms in Currant and L'Orignal, ON; Buckingham, QC.

At the same time it exist two other Fournier's families whom lived also in L'Orignal and Buckingham where I found Domitille Diotte godmother for a child of Jacques Fournier and Henriette Lacelle. I found also Charles Diotte and Marie Meilleur (Domitille Diotte's parents), sponsors for a child in the same family. These families and the family of Joseph Fournier and Domitille Diotte lived in Thurso, between 1867 and 1900.

So I believe they are three brothers: Joseph Fournier, m. Domitille Diotte about 1850; Jacques (James) m. Henriette Lacelle, 1849, in L'Orignal, ON and Pierre (John-B.) m. Marguerite Robinson, 1851, in L'Orignal. Their Fournier's parents were Jacques Fournier and Addée (Adélaïde)Quesnel.

Joseph Fournier and Domitille Diotte had 4 daughters whom were married:
Emilie, m. Alfred Laviolette, 24/04/1917, St-Sixte
Marie, m. Alphonse Bernier, 16/04/1894, St-Sixte
Mathilde, m. Napoleon Gemus, 10/11/1889, Thurso
Elisabeth, m. Moïse Binette, 20/05/1885, Thurso.

Sincerely,
Armelle Fournier, genealogist

Thanks so much...I've got most of that, with the exception of hte marriage date between him and Mary...I've found him in 1851 in Canada census in St. Thomas...Flavin, is actually his mother, Flavie, though have his father as a Thessers (sp)...The writing is very difficult to read..I'm going to visit my Great Uncle, son of Alice Fournier Deaett, this weekend and am going to ask him about this family, though I don't believe they had much contact, as this family stayed in New Bedford, while he grew up in Providence.

Thanks again,
Jenny

Hi Jenny,

Don't get frustrated, genealogy is an ongoing affair that never ends!!

I did find:
Fournier Pierre New Bedford 1887 vol. 379 page 160 Marriage
15 August 1887, New Bedford
Pierre Fournier, 36, door maker, son of Flevin [Flavien?] and Adea [Aldea?]

Marie Boucher, 23, works in mill, daughter of Antoine and Louynon? [not sure of this name]

Married by JA Prevost, priest.
----------------------------------------------------
Fornier Caroline (Dalton) New Bedford 1882 vol. 337 page 124 Death 14 February 1882, New Bedford
Caroline [Dalton] Fornier [Fournier]
born: 28 April 1840
died of Pthisis at the age of 28.
daughter of Edouard and Marie Beau [Lebeau?]

All of these persons were born in Quebec, The spelling isn't too great of these French names.

But at least this gives you a start in the backwards journey. You should join the Quebec-Research group on Rootsweb. You can post questions to them and you would be surprised to find someone always seems to have the information that you're looking for.

You can also ask City Hall to send you a copy of their marriage and Caroline's death now that you have the exact dates.

My grandmother was a Fournier, but I can't find a connection to your family, at least not yet. My family settled in Fall River.

I'll keep looking for more information for you.

Paula

Hi I am looking for an obiruary on my grandfather Paul Fournier he was born in 1900 in Redford, New York. Or so we think! He died sometime in May 1967 or 1968. Also if anyone has matches to his parents who were James or Jim & Delia and their other children or farther back that would be great. I have a picture of James & Delia on my tree if anyone would like to see them. There is also one that I think may be James when he was young but I'm not sure. My father's side of the family doesn't talk much. So this has been difficult.
Thanks for any help

André,

I saw your post on the "Fournier's Fall River Dextraze Connection" on the Ancestry message board and was very excited to see mention of Adélia Dextraze from New Bedford. I believe that she might be the sister of a great-great-grandfather I have been looking for. Can you tell me anything about her brothers and sisters? I have been looking for a Louis Dextraze, Jr. (the Jr. was in his obituary) who died in New Bedford around 1934 at the age of 71. The obituary mentions siblings Joseph, Delphis, Mary, Rosanna, and Delia as well as children Florida, Delphis, Claudia, Wilfred, Ida, Arsene, Beatrice, Zephir, and Rose. The obit does not mention Louis' wife, Georgianna Rousseau. Unfortunately, the obituary was in a scrapbook with no date and no newspaper name. Since you say that Delia's father was also Louis, I believe this is the same family. Can you send me any information about Delia's ancestors as well as any brothers and sister? I would appreciate any help you can provide.

Best regards,
Ronald J.
Joseph Fournier (b. 20 May 1822 - d. 02 April 1912)

I am attempting to trace the FOURNIE, FOURNIA, FOURNEY family lines of South Western and Eastern Ontario. My problem is with the family move out of Quebec.

The original move was made by Joseph Fournier [Fournie] (b. 20 May 1822 - d. 02 April 1912) and Catherine Dow (b. August 15, 1832 - d. 20 May 1913 ) [However, according to their death records indicate birth years of 1818 and 1827 respectively] . They were married November 18, 1845 in Chateauguay County , Quebec .

They had 12 children:
William [possibly Guillaume] (b. abt 1847 - d. 22 Jan. 1907)

Joseph (b.19 Nov. 1848 - d. 26 March 1928

Christine (b. 4 January 1851 - d. 6 June 1917)

Charles (b. 19 June 1853 - d. 23 April 1935)

Mary (b. 16 Sept. 1855 - d. after 1930)

Margaret (b. 16 Mar. 1858 - d. about 1901)

Robert (b. 1 Sept. 1860 - d. 16 Aug. 1930)

John (b. 26 April 1863 - d. 4 April 4, 1960)

Israel (b. 7 Feb. 1866 - d. 21 Feb. 1866)

Marie Louise (b. 29 April 1867 - d. 3 July 1881) -- Identified as “Jane” on the 1871 census and “Jeanie” on her death record.

James (b. 25 April 1870 - d. 31 Oct. 1950)

Peter (Alexander) (b. 8 Jan. 1873 - d. 5 June 1944)

Some preliminary research by others in the family leads us to believe that Joseph's father and mother were Augustin Fournier and Marie Leblanc, but we have been unable to confirm this information or move beyond it. I was hoping someone out there might be able to assist.

Many thanks for your consideration
