My Grandmother Viva (Fox) Patterson--Willard Fox was her father. Amos Fox was his dad but I have found records that Willard Fox was adopted by a Jerry and Deborah Funkhouser. Hi Jenny,

I just recently discovered that Emily Sac married Joseph Newton Fox. He was a Revolutionary War soldier and she was the daugher of Chief Koquethagecthon White Eyes of the Delaware Indian tribe in PA/OH. You can find a decent amount of information on Wikipedia about him. He was intrumental in the Revolutionary War. It is said that he was murdered.

Emily had a brother, George Morgan White Eyes, and there is a decent amount of info on him, too. A pretty unappreciative fellow with many vices that ultimately were the end of him.

I believe that Joseph and Emily had one child, Elizabeth Betty Fox, who married Andrew Myers and they had many children.

I hope this helps you. I just stumbled upon this information during my searches.

Arthur W. Fox/Benton County Oregon/Link to Plymouth Colony

I have just recently found an old warranty deed in which Arthur W. Fox deeded some property to his sister's daughter. His sister was Belle Cora Fox. The deed is dated 1/23/1939. Also in the past few years I have found that Belle and her siblings can trace their lineage back to the Plymouth colony. If anyone knows about an Arthur W. Fox who was born in 1869 and died in 1943 please let me know. He lived in Oregon and is buried in Benton County. Since I am from Oregon I was most interested in finding out if I have any "relatives" out here. Most of family is back in Iowa or Minnesota. I suspect that a William G. Fox who was born in 1902 and died in 1978 is a child of Arthur and Vina Fox.

Driver Dies at
Car's Wheel

A major fire alarm was given
in downtown San Mateo this
morning when Walter R. Fox, 80,
of 564 Borel avenue, died at the
wheel of his car while traveling
west of East Fourth avenue.
His late model car smashed
into the Hibernia Bank, corner
of East Fourth and San Mateo
drive, breaking the large plate
glass window. The car then
bounced back to the curb, be-
coming wedged between a park-
ing meter and a parked car be-
longing to Diane P. Hays of 1418
Bellview avenue, Burlingame.
Three fire trucks reported to
the scene after an unidentified
person turned in a fire alarm.
The right rear tire of the vic-
tim's car was completely burned
away as the car became wedged
between the meter and parked
car. Firemen said the wheels con-
tinued turning after the car be-
came jammed between the two
objects.

My Great Great Grandmother was an Anne Fox, who married Michael Fuery in Hartland Township, Niagara County, New York USA. She was born in Ireland about 1832 or so, immigrated with her family to US. However, she was the only one to survive the trip, except perhaps a sister, out of 9 members of her family. Any idea if immigration records have deaths of people in transit?

Hi,
I loose Charles FOX after the 1870 census and can't find a listing, online, of where he's buried. Any suggestions? The last I have his family is in Pleasant Ridge, Iowa. Its kind of early for newspapers, any suggestions?

His wife ended up over by me in Orange County, CA, in the 1900 census, but I haven't been able to find her grave either.

Thurman Eugene Fox Obituary

Finishing his turn on earth, Thurman Eugene Fox peacefully passed away Wednesday, September 16, 2009 at the Kingman Regional Hospital, Kingman, Arizona, as a result of cancer and kidney failure. Gene was born March 23, 1928 in Ada, Pontotoc County, Oklahoma to William Thurman and Ola Della Tollison Fox, the second of five children. Preceding him in death were his loving wife Mary Lou Epple Fox; a son Phillip Lee Fox; his sister Kathleen Lucille Fox Coley Holler, and grandson David Roosa / Linn.

Gene leaves behind two sisters and a brother: Helen Marie Fox Box, Barbara Lee Wynona Fox Goodwin and Donnie LeWayne Fox.

Gene will always be an inspiration to his large posterity, including four living children: Thuresa Gene Fox Latey of Bellevue, Nebraska; Shirley Louise Fox Roosa Linn of Apple Valley, California; Gary Steven Fox of Amarillo, Texas; and William Owen Fox of Las Vegas, Nevada; and two stepsons Joe Sameh of Hesperia, California and John Robert Sameh of Porterville, California through his second marriage to Lyla Marie Lovett Sameh Fox Daugherty; seventeen grandchildren and thirty-four great-grandchildren, and very close and valued friends, Scott and Lyla Daugherty of Kingman, Arizona.
Gene is a veteran of the United States Navy, serving in Japan at the close of World War II. He worked as a TV repair technician for many years in the San Gabriel Valley area of southern California and in his later years worked for the San Bernardino County School District at Apple Valley Senior High School as custodian.

He was a man of courage and conviction, valiant in the cause of good, a loving and devoted father, and a great and good friend. His gentle kindness, twinkle in the eye and bright smile will be missed by many. He was be laid to rest beside his first wife Mary Lou -- they are together again, and forever.

Graveside services were be held Friday, September 25, 2009 at Victor Valley Memorial Park Cemetery, 17150 C Street, Victorville, CA 92395-3330, (760)-245-8164.

STOCKTON, Iowa -- Donald O. Fox, 76, of Stockton died Wednesday, Dec. 5, 2001, at his home.

Services are at Calvary United Methodist Church in Walcott. The Rev. Esther Barton will officiate. Musical selections will be provided by organist Dorothy Gibson and vocalist Henry Bentley. Pallbearers are Wallace Kelding, Darrell Kroh, Verle Kleppe, Loren Kleppe, Lawrence Fox, Wesley Fox, Arlan Fox, Terry Fox, Kevin Fox and Doyle Fox. Burial will be at the Walcott Cemetery in Walcott. Graveside Military Services will be conducted by the Wheatland American Legion.

Visitations are at Bentley Funeral Home in Durant and one hour prior to services Saturday at the church. Memorials may be made to the Calvary United Methodist Church, Genesis Hospice VNA or the Durant Ambulance Service.

Mr. Fox was born on Dec. 1, 1925, in Wheatland, the son of Henry and Lillie Laschanzky Fox. He married Gloria Siebke on Jan. 11, 1958, in Wheatland.

He served in the U.S. Marine Corps 1951-1953 attached to the 9th MCRRD.

He farmed in Muscatine County for 36 years, retiring in 1995.

He was a member of Calvary United Methodist Church, the Muscatine Moose Lodge, Wheatland American Legion, and numerous card clubs.

He enjoyed telling stories, woodworking, playing cards and being with people.

Survivors include his wife; a daughter, Janelle Entsminger and Paul Ostrand of Stockton; a son, Randy Fox and his wife, Dana, of Durant; a sister, Jeanette Kleppe and her husband, Harvey, of Bennett; two brothers, Roland Fox and his wife, Marlene, of Lowden and Virtus Fox and his wife, Opal, of DeWitt; two sisters-in-law, Ella Fox and Bonnie Fox, both of Wheatland; four grandchildren, Emily, Megan, Kurtis and Jordyn.

She had been a resident of the Muscatine area since 1937. She was a member of Assembly of God faith.

She was employed at Muscatine General Hospital for 19 years as a nurse's aide.

She loved to crochet and made many items by feel and count. She enjoyed gospel music and singing and loved her children and grandchildren.

Survivors include two sons, Donald Fox and wife, Yvonne, and Glenn R. Fox and wife, Patricia, all of Muscatine; four daughters, Norma J. Terrill, Lois Pace and husband, Ralph, Frances Getz and husband, Terry, and Sharon Martin and husband, Phillip, all of Muscatine; 27 grandchildren; 53 great-grandchildren; and seven great-great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, three brothers, a sister, three grandsons and a great-grandson.

Mrs. Fox was born Dec. 29, 1935, in Clinton, the daughter of Venus and Marjorie Campbell Jensen. She married Lorin L. Fox May 5, 1957, in Lost Nation.

She graduated from Lost Nation High School in 1954 as co-valedictorian of her class. After graduation, she worked at Iowa Electric and Wheatland Savings Bank.

She and her husband had five children, Lori, Lisa, David, Daniel and Kathryn.

Her greatest joy came from spending time with her husband, children and grandchildren. While her children were growing up, she taught Sunday school classes, was a Cub Scout den mother and led the church youth group (Luther League). She looked forward to hosting 'grandparents' camp' each summer, when many of the grandchildren came to stay for a week's worth of fun and spoiling.

She also loved music and used her gifts in this area to teach piano lessons to many area children, accompanied musicians at band contests, played the organ for countless funeral services and was a faithful church organist at Gloria Dei Lutheran Church for many years. She was also a member of the Gideon's Auxiliary and Gloria Dei Lutheran Church, Durant.

Survivors include her husband; three daughters, Lori Fox and fiancee, Gary Sacry, of Bloomington, Ill., Lisa Wold and husband, Kelvin, of St. Ansgar and Kate Hydorn and husband, Gary, of Carlisle; two sons, David Fox and wife, Tracy, of Shawnee, Kan. and Dan Fox and wife, Beth, of Colorado Springs, Colo.; 14 grandchildren, Nathaniel, Krystina and Benjamin McCoy, Allison, Ryan, Erika and Abigail Wold, Aaron, Olivia and Emma Fox, Laura and Anna Fox and Bradley and Brennan Hydorn.

Jean M. Fox, 77, Ainsworth, died Friday, June 30, 2006, at Washington County Hospital, Washington, after an extended illness.

After the burial, a time of food and fellowship will be held at Trinity United Methodist Church, Riverside.

Mr. Fox was born Sept. 11, 1928, at the family home in Ainsworth, the daughter of George and Marguerite Kos Havel. She married Lyle Fox on July 31, 1948, at Trinity United Methodist Church, Riverside.

She taught country school and worked at Owen Brush, Iowa City, for a brief time and then she worked for Sheller-Globe, Iowa City, for 25 years. She was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church and the W.C.S. She enjoyed gardening, cooking, flowers, all kinds of animals, but most of all, she dearly loved to spend time with her family, especially the grandchildren.

Survivors include her husband; a daughter, Peggy Miller and husband Arlo of Sumner; two sons, Rodney Fox of Ainsworth and Daniel Fox and wife Karla of Crystal Lake, Ill.; nine grandchildren; and a sister, Mary Ann Swailes and husband Richard of Ainsworth.

She was preceded in death by her parents; a son, Roger; a brother, Tom Havel; and a sister, Nancy Strabala.

Funeral service will be at the Ralph J. Wittich-Riley-Freers Funeral Home. Dan Smith will officiate the service. Burial will be in Greenwood Cemetery.

David was born on July 26, 1967, in Iowa City, the son of Donald E. and Liesel Lotz Fox.

He was employed by HTH working at Grain Processing Corporation as a technician in the starch plant.

Survivors include his father, Donald Fox of Muscatine; his mother and step-father, Liesel and Glenn Moench of Muscatine; two sons, Quinton and Wesley Fox of Maryland; one brother, Larry Fox of Muscatine; and three sisters, Linda Novak of Germantown, Maryland, Glenda Huyser of Gaithersburg, Maryland, and Kathy Moench-Reimers of Fruitland.

He was preceded in death by his paternal and maternal grandparents, and one brother, James Fox.

RIVERSIDE, Iowa - Lyle Fox, 79, of Ainsworth, passed away on Thursday, January 15, 2009, at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics due to injuries sustained in a vehicle accident.

Funeral Service will be at the Sorden-Lewis Home for Funeral and Cremation Services, Riverside. Reverend Betsey Neipert will officiate. Burial will be at the Riverside Public Cemetery. Following the committal services at the cemetery a time of food and fellowship will be held at the Trinity United Methodist Church in Riverside.

Lyle was born on April 24, 1929, in Nichols, the son of Sherman Grant and Elsie Jarrard Fox. He married Jean Maxwell Havel on July 31, 1948, at the Trinity United Methodist Church in Riverside.

He was a member of the Trinity United Methodist Church in Riverside, and the Elder Development.

Lyle farmed his whole life, even when he worked construction in his younger years, he continued farming at the same time. He loved playing baseball. He played in the minor leagues for many years and even had the chance to play in the majors. He served as a school board president for many years, being one of the founders of Highland High School. He enjoyed hunting and fishing, and spending time with his family.

He will be deeply missed by his children; a daughter, Peggy Miller and husband, Arlo, of Sumner; two sons, Rodney Fox of Ainsworth, and Dan Fox and wife, Karla, of Crystal Lake, Illinois; and seven grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Jean in June 2006; a son, Roger; and three brothers, Vernon, Burton and Donald.

Rita was born on March 9, 1933, in Iowa City, the daughter of Roy and Margaret Kapfer Neitge. She married Matt J. Fox Jr. on February 23, 1952, in Muscatine, at the St. Mathias Church.

She was president and owner of the construction business, Muscatine Bridge Company.

She was a member of the St. Mathias Church.

Rita was energetic and full of life. She had a great passion for sewing and gardening. She was an avid reader and enjoyed decorating. She will be greatly missed by all who knew her.

Survivors include her husband, Matt J. Fox Jr. of Muscatine; four sons, Steve Fox and wife, Mary Jane, of Muscatine, Richard Fox of Wilton, Jim Fox and wife, Peggy, of Wilton, and Patrick Fox of Muscatine; two daughters, Jennifer Fox and husband, Jim Delveau, of Des Moines, and Jane Fox and husband, Rick Hammond, of Edina, Minnesota; 13 grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; one sister, Jill Phillips of Coralville; and one brother-in-law, John Fox of Muscatine.

My inquiry concerned Nicholas Chickley. Chickley is, seemingly a very rare name, and you are also interested in Weidner's, who are not too unusual.

It would seem that we have something in common. My first ancestor to enter this country is John Weidner. William as a middle name is also common in my family. I am a William (middle name) as a matter of fact.

My John Weidner came to this counry in 1852. I have not completely verified this but I'm reasonably sure of this. He was born in 1826. He married Elizabeth Hahman b. 1826.

They and their children generally spent their whole lives in the Brooklyn, N.Y. area. So it would seem that a kinship is unlikely. Yet it is strange that we have the families Chickley and Weidner in common. Any thoughts?

Family folklore says that my ancestor William Pleas Fox was half Cherokee. He was born 11 July 1842 in Knox Co, KY and died 23 February 1897. His wife was Ella Catherine Charles. I've found a census record for a child of the same name and right age living in the house of a Susan Fox. Could this be his mother?

My grandmother left the following notes on William:
W. P. Fox was a bondsman and the family he was bonded to left him in Knox County as a boy. No record of family -- only that he was 1/2 Cherokee Indian. He was a carpenter, Sheriff, built and run Fox Hotel.

Hi everyone, My husband's grandmother is the daughter of these two, Gloria Bandy. We found out today that she had a older sister who died before she was born as an infant. She said that she is buried in the oldest cemetery in Oklahoma City, but she doesnt even know her name. She thought it might be Iva after her mothers sister. James was born in IL 1886 died in Oklahoma 1969, Ethel was born 1887 and died 1974 in Oklahoma. Any help out there would be appreciated.

Hi Jo Ann..I don't see that you received any replies to this post. I am a descendant of George Washington Fox born 1792 in North Carolina. He was in Sabine Parish, LA in 1850 and Natchitoches Parish, LA in 1860. He and his wife Sarah Ann Herrington died there. They are listed as dying in Notii, Natchitoches Parish. Have you ever heard of that town? Edwin G. may be a brother to George Washington Fox.

Some researchers show George to be the son of Moses Fox, who was the son of Moses and Purify Melton Fox. Do you have any information on that?

Daniel Agustus Fox b.1854 in TN married Missouri Catherine Renfro B. 1854 in TN. These 2 I am sure of. I don't know where they died or are buried. Missouri's family I have several generations back. But Daniel? I think his father was David b.1809 and his mother Mary Green b. 1819 with siblings of James, Melvin, Sarah, Elizabeth, Caroline, and Margaret. Daniel & Missouri lived in the Monroe/McMinn counties area in 1880. They did not moved to Alabama when their children did.

We now have a male Fox descendant of Thomas Dudley Fox and Mary Elizabeth Sweet in the Fox Y-DNA Surname Project and are looking for more volunteers. His results indicate a family connection with descendants of Justinian Fox who came to Philadelphia in 1686, with descendants of Francis Fox, born in Devizes, Wiltsire, in 1606/1607 and with descendants of Matthew Fox of Abbeville, SC, all of whom are closely related. The connection is probably back in Britain - possibly in the 1500s.

There is more on this family and the DNA Project in my book "Growing with America - The Fox Family of Philadelphia."

LANCASTER: Mabel I. Fox Evans, 97 of Lancaster, Ohio passed away Wednesday, September 30, 2009 at Fairfield Medical Center. She was a nanny and housekeeper and a member of the Sixth Avenue United Methodist Church.

She is survived by her husband, Gold Evans; step-son, Wilie Evans; step-daughter, Elaine (David) Amos; brother, Doid Fox all of Lancaster, Ohio; sister-in-law, Irma Fox of Newark, Ohio; many nieces and nephews.

She is preceded in death by her husbands, Roy Griffith and Delbert Fox; parents, Edwin W. and Louetta Fox; six brothers, Chester, Russell, Floyd, Ralph, Cecil, and Henry Fox; four sisters, Gladys Weaver, Viola Eby, Helen Drumm, and Lillie Spires.

The family of Mabel would like to thank all of those who gave such wonderful caring love to Mabel.

Caroline Fox/Capt. Simeon Fox

I am researching Amos Sage b. 1791 Connecticut d. 1856 Chautauqua Co. NY. His wife was Caroline Fox who is reported to have been born in 1796 in Connecticut. I am having difficulty finding out her ancestry. I believe that her father may be Captain Simeon Fox, who was apparently a well known lake-ship captain. I believe that he died in Buffalo after 1840.

My hunch is based on the fact that Capt. Fox apparently purchased a plot in 1810 and Amos Sage purchased a nearby one in 1813 in the Town of Pomfret. Also, there are some graves for children of Capt. Fox and his wife Mary that have birthdates that would be consistent with a 1796 birthdate for Caroline. Any ideas?
