Ernest J. Francis m. Ida May Davis

I'm trying to determine if there are any descendants of Ernest J. Francis and Ida May Davis who married in 1928 in the Shepton Mallet registration district of Somerset. Ida was a cousin of my grandmother Edith Mary Murphy who emigrated to Canada and was married here. Any information appreciated on Ernest & Ida would be very much appreciated. I believe they lived in the Haydon, Radstock area near Bath at one time.
Thank you.

A longshot! I am looking for a Edmund John Francis (a miner) who emigrated from the same area of Wales with his Scots wife Grace to Canada in the 1920s. Would you recognize these names? As I said — a longshot but thought I'd ask.

I don't know if this is much help but my great-great-grandmother was Almira (Francis) Potter. The family story was that Almira was Indian/mixed, on all the censuses she's listed as "black." She married in 1859 and moved to Rhode Island shortly thereafter. Some of her descendants may have moved back to New Bedford, some first cousins of mine. But I don't know who her parents or siblings are, if she really was Indian, or where the Francises came from. We don't have any other information though, and would love to learn more about the Francis family in New Bedford, if any Francis relatives are still there after all this time.

Re: JOHN FEARN FRANCIS

Perhaps Mr. Foenander does not consider JOHN FEARN FRANCIS a hero, but anyone who give up his own life to save the lives of others, Confederate or Union, is considered a hero by many. He like many others were from Van Dieman's land, but lived in and left Australia for the United States. , He was convicted at 19 years of age supposedly for “receiving stolen goods without knowing they were stolen”, but his Tasmanian Van Dieman’s Land penal colony records state he was arrested for “stealing money and other articles from a person”. Many of those individuals went on to live distinguished lives.

I know nothing more other than who she married, and children she had. I am trying to find parents and siblings. If you think you might have a link or can help that would be great.

Cheers

Dawn (Australia)

Hi Shelley,

Thanks for your reply. Unfortunately Elizabeth's marriage cert has no parentage at all. She married on the 20th Feb 1806 in St Mary, Marylebone, London. The parish registers stated they were both of the parish of Marylebone, they signed their names and the marriage was by BANNS (What does that mean?) not by license! She married James Enever. We know from the census that she was born in Essex c 1778-79.

I guess I am hoping that someone like yourself has a match with the info I have just given you. Because of the time period being so early and records not really coming into place until about 1837, there is not a lot to go on. It also makes it difficult being so far away and not having any contact with other relatives who might be able to help me. I'm sorry I can't provide more info. Any tips on where to go from here would be much appreciated. What about death cert? Would they give some kind of info? I know she died 1st March 1858 in Edmonton Reg District.

Cheers Dawn

Re: JOHN FEARN FRANCIS

And perhaps Gray should read my posting, once more, or perhaps twice more, to get the gist of the statement. I particularly placed the statement I made in quotes, to show that Gray had considered this man as an "AUSTRALIAN HERO". At no time did I state that Fearn was not a HERO, I stated that he was NOT AN AUSTRALIAN HERO, as Gray had claimed. Fearn was a British criminal, sent to Tasmania, who escaped (not LEFT Australia), and had changed his name to Francis to escape detection. Once more, Gray fails miserably in his so called research, as he just ignores the true statements made. If this cannot be seen clearly, then what hope is there that he will peruse old documents and such items properly and correctly?
I repeat my accurate and truthful statement that not one of those men - John Fearn, John Mitchell, nor Thomas Francis Meagher, were considered as "AUSTRALIAN HEROES", I repeat to ensure accurate perusal of my statement - not one of them were AUSTRALIAN HEROES. They were criminals from the U.K., sent to Tasmania for their crimes, who all escaped, and went to America and then served in the Civil War. Yes, they were heroes in America, and more appropriately heroes of the American Civil War, but at no time can they be considered as AUSTRALIAN HEROES, and I place the emphasis on the word AUSTRALIAN, in case this message is not read properly.
As those poor ladies at a historical society stated to me, and which has been repeated numerous times, by many others - Gray just does not listen, and I might add, nor does he read properly.

looking for alice. Brown mother of Joel Francis(1962b) son of George Francis

I am looking for my father's biological mother who was a Brown. My father is Joel Francis son of George Francis. Alice and George had my father in 1962. It would be an important part of our lives to reunite with her and her family. Too many years have gone by. The little that we know of Alice is that she possibly still lives in NYC and that she may have married a Johnson. We also know that she had children before and after my father. Please contact us with any information, the littlest information could mean alot to us.
