I only found your message today. I have been working on my grandchildren's genealogy. David Francy is the great-great-great grandfather of my son-in-law. He is descended through David, William, Archie Donald, and Wanda Francy. I would love to exchange information with you about this family.

Sarah Ellen Francy was my father's grandmother. Are you related to the Francys? Would like to exchange info if you want. The David Francy in Illinois census married to an Ann Holland was indeed Sarah's father. I have a copy of the lawsuit her husband filed against David for alienation of affections. Seems they met at the St Louis Worlds Fair in 1904. His first wife was Martha Campbell and they lived near Dixon, Mo, Pulaski Cty, Mo. I was having trouble finding information on Sarah Ellen's sisters. Her brother William Francy was married to Isabelle Morris and they moved to Oklahoma because she was part American Indian. Sarah Ellen married James Monroe McKnolly and had a large family. Her daughter Cora McKnolly was my grandmother.
I found Sarah Ellen's sister Mollie's husband and 2 sons just last night. She married a James M Stokes and they lived in Hancock, Mo, Pulaski Cty. Most of the family are buried in the Fairview Cem. near Dixon, Mo. Looking foward to hearing from you.
Jane Helms
When your grandfather wrote that Martha Francey was from O'Morrow, Ireland, was it stated clearly whether O'Morrow was a place or a family? There is no place in Ireland (that I'm aware of...) called O'Morrow, however my grandmother's last name was O'Morrow, and they came from Ireland. I haven't yet been able to place where exactly from Ireland they originated though. I've only been able to trace it back to my grandmother's grandfather (Charles O'Morrow, and his 2 brothers, John and Lloyd). They were born in the mid to late 1800's. I know John O'Morrow ended up in Canada, but I don't know where in Canada.
It's just another possiblity. If the O'Morrow your grandfather refered to does end up being a family and not a place, please let me know, I'd be interested.

Additional Information for David Francy

I found a David Francy on the 1910 Washington County, Illinois federal census. He was living in Oakdale Township and his dwelling was number 205 and his household was number 206. David was a white male, age 72, on his second marriage, he and his parents were all born in Ireland. He immigrated in 1864. He was a farmer working on his own accord and he owned the farm he was living on. He could read and write and spoke English. The farm was mortgaged. His farm was number 154 on the farm schedule. Living with David was his wife Annie, a white female, age 56, also on her second marriage. She was born in Missouri and her parents were from Germany. She was the mother of 10 children, five of whom were living. She had no occupation, and she could speak English and read and write. A step-son was also living with David, Harry A. Holland, a white male, 13 years old. He was born in IL as was his father. He could speak English. He had no occupation. He could read and write and attended school during the year.

I believe this to be the same David Francy of whom we have been speaking.

Re: Francy,David

I believe your David Francy is the same one in my son-in-law's line. William M. Francy was born about 1871 in West Virginia. His father was David Francy.

William married Isabella "Belle" Morris, b. 1874 in Missouri. I believe William and Isabella were married in Mercer County, but I have no data to confirm that. They had at least one son, Archie Donald "Don" Francy, b. 23 December 1904 in Dixon, Pulaski County, Missouri.

William died 9 December 1956 in Broken Arrow, Oklahoma. Belle d. 31 December 1958 in Broken Arrow. Archie Donald d. 12 November 1992 in Broken Arrow. All are buried at Park Grove Cemetery in Broken Arrow, Oklahoma. There records are on line.

Do you believe that David and his wife who are both listed as being born in Ireland, married there and then emigrated? Your data shows William as the only son. Is it possible that Archie or Donald is the name of one or both fathers of his parents?

There was also a Francy family in Henry County, Iowa about this time. There were 3 brothers that came from Ireland. There was a David also in that family. There biography was listed in the Henry County, Iowa History published in 1982.
Fred,

Sorry to delay getting back to you. I had trouble with my computer.

I was in the Family History Library in Salt Lake some years ago and happened to sit next to somebody who claimed to be an Irish research expert. He said that Francey or Francy are really the same as Francis for Irish research. Made sense to me when I heard it. Hadn't thought of Francis before, but he asked me to consider how they would pronounce it.

I haven't found who I am looking for yet but I haven't been that thorough either. He said don't bother to look in Ireland until you have something solid in Canada because there are innumerable Francises in Ireland. We need a reference to a county or parish in Ireland.

My grandfather wrote in the 1930's that Martha Francey was from O'Morrow, Ireland. I never found an O'Morrow. But I eventually figured it could be Armaugh or Omaugh. Not much help though because they are large counties and there are still a lot o' Francises.

Martha Francy and Thomas Killingbeck were married in Cavan Parish (Anglican), Durham Co., ON in 1836.

I would be interested in what you think and what your research plans are. We could be connected some way.

Thanks,

Brian K. Killingbeck
