Re: Franey in Ohio-Tarpey/Morris connection

Mary A (Morris)Tarpey b.1842 was born in Charlestown, Mayo, Ireland. According to her obituary she came to Lancaster Ohio in 1860. Her mother was Catherine Franey b.1825 and ? Morris. John Franey b.1821 lived next door to the Tarpey's in 1880. I believe John was Mary's uncle making Catherine(Franey)Morris his sister. Mary had three more siblings that I know of: John Morris b.1852 an unnamed sister that stayed in Ireland, and Catherine A (Morris)Daugherty b.1848-my great-great-great grandmother. This Daugherty line was from county Mayo as well and immigrated to Lancaster. Not to be confused with the Michael Daugherty the attorney living in Lancaster line. Hope this helps....I'm still looking for family in all the surnames.

Hi Trillionnikki,
So, your grandpa Pat and my grandmother Margaret (Franey) McMahon were 1st cousins, which I think makes us, third cousins, since our great-grandfathers were brothers. My great-grandfather was Walter Joseph Franey, Sr., son of Henry and Agnes Franey, but he stayed in Kansas City, when the rest of his family moved to Bakersfield. I was actually in contact with one of your Great Uncles, James I believe it was, in the fall of 2003 who sent me the whole genealogy of your clan. But, I have a great photo I can send you of our Great-Great-Grandparents, Henry and Agnes, with their three boys if you like. Just email me at richkinnard2@gmail.com.
cheers,
Rich

Oh Rita, I am so saddened to hear about Mick. It seems to be a winter of misfortunes. My best friend Vic Navarra passed away on December 30th from sinus cancer caused by 9/11-WTC. He was a retired fire lieutenant who went back to help. Vic was also the Start Organizer of the NYC Marathon for the past 25 years. I hope that the Freaney family has pulled together and know that God is watching over them and Mick. It would have been something to sit down with him and talk about the family. Yes, I will call Peggy soon. It's totally understandable that more important things are being handled right now. Please let everyone know that we are thinking and praying for all of you. God bless and best to everyone.
I'm sorry that I have not been checking for messages for the past few months because of a new job and coming down with the flu. I hope that Mick is doing well now and that the rest of the family is surviving the winter as well. I am hoping to get some vacation time (and money) to come out to visit sometime between October 2008 and March 2009.
The current job does not pay too well and some of the kids have come back home (so much for an empty nest).
Possible FRAME / FRANEY & Var. Surname Connections

Research into the origins of the FRAME surname has revealed it was almost certainly influenced by Osulf fil Frame (or Frane), Lord Belvoir du Plessis, thegn to King Edward the Confessor. The surnames DE FRAMÉ and LE FRESNE (pron. Frane) were found in Calvados, Normandy, less than 70 miles apart. Each was even nearer to Le Plessis-Grimoult, the fortification last held by Osulf’s son, Grimoult du Plessis, in 1047. The proximity is close enough to suggest a shared provenance between these families in Normandy, and for this reason the FRAME DNA PROJECT has been extended to include the surnames:-

DE FRAMÉ, FRAEME, FRAHM, FRAIM, FRAIME, FRAM, FRAME, FRAMINGHAM, FRAMLINGHAM, FRAMPTON, FRAMSDEN, FRAYM, FREAM, FREAME, FROAM, DE FRAINE, DE FREYNE, FRAIN, FRANE, FRANEY, FRAYN, FRAYN, FREAN, FREEN, FREENEY, FRENEY, FRESNE, FREYNE, or any other variants thought to have evolved from these names.

The aim is to use Y-DNA testing to determine which of the variant surnames relate to a common ancestor. DNA testing for genealogy purposes is more economical through a surname DNA project such as this, rather than as an individual. Any males by natural descent carrying any of the above surnames or variants are most welcome to join the Frame DNA project.

Further information on Osulf fil Frame and/or DNA testing may be obtained at: http://www.worldfamilies.net/surnames/f/frame/

Best regards,

Julie Frame Falk
Gordon Hamilton
Frame DNA Project
Co-Administrators
Thank you for your help, Rita. I spent a half hour talking with Mick earlier today. Eventhough there were some difficulties in telephone line noise in the beginning, we were able to talk about a few things. Mick took down my mailing address and phone number. He wants to spend some time jotting down some details and send them off to me. He remembers my grandmother (his aunt) visiting in the early 1960's with some of my aunts, uncles and cousins in tow.
I would like to build out this side of the family tree. Have you done any GEDCOM files on this side of the family?
I don't believe our Franey's are connected on this side of the Atlantic. The only "tip" I might have for you is that my ancestors came from New Ross in County Wexford, Ireland...so it's possible your Franey ancestors originated from that county too.

Stephen Franey in Nova Scotia

My great grandfather James Franey was from Cassandra, PA. We beleive he was the mayor of Cassandra sometime durning the early 1900's. He was born in 1869 and died in 1914. He was married to Emma Leap Frandy. His parents were Micheal Franey born in Ireland and his mother was Annie Franey also born in Ireland. I believe her maiden name was Kilduff.
I don't think we arethe decendants of Nova Scotia but, the information may be useful. You may have some leads for my sisters and myself.

Hi Ann
I was just browsing through the net looking up the Franey name and have come across your query.
My grandfather was also called james and was born around 1890, but was in Waterford. The counties to which you refer are Offaly and Laios. My grandfather emigrated to America and married my grandmother (Mary Smith) and returned to her home area in Co. Tyrone. I too would like to trace my ancestry and discover any relatives forgotten about and maybe we have some connection to the past
Best of luck in your Quest
Noel Franey

Hi Sharon,

My name is Joe Franey and I hail from Derry in the North of Ireland. I too can trace my family back to Wexford, although my connection is more recent. I am the son of Richard Franey from Enniscorthy/Oulart, Co Wexford, he in turn is also the son of a Richard Franey from Enniscorthy/Oulart, Co Wexford, he in turn is the son of Joseph Franey from the same area. My father is one of about 20 children, all of whom have settled and live in the UK or Ireland. My grandfather is also one of about 20 children. I think he was born in and around 1890 and was probably one of the youngest children in the family. I know that he had two brothers who went to America (Boston, I think) in 1910 when they were teenagers (Andrew and James). Both married while in America - Andrew stayed in America with his family and was possibly in the army or navy during the war(s). I think two of his sons died in Belfast during WWII. James sent his family home to Ireland in the 1930s. It is possible that more of my father's aunts and uncles went to America also. It appears that the family had a strong history of emmigration. I intend to go to Wexford in the summer to do some searching, I'll bare you in mind while I am looking for information.

All the best, slan agus beannacht leat!

Joe

Hi, I hail from Derry in the north of Ireland and it is with interest that I have been reading some of the information on this website. I, like many of you, can trace my lineage back to Wexford, Ireland - although more recently than most of you. I am the son of Richard Franey from Oulart/ Enniscorthy, Wexford, who in turn is the son of Richard Franey, and he in turn is the son of a Joseph Franey. I know that my father's two uncles (Andrew and James) went to America (Boston area) around 1910 - 1912 and he possibly has aunts who went to America also.

My father is one of about 20 children, his father married twice - his first wife died. My grandfather is also one of about 20 children - his father also married twice for the same reason. The family has quite a strong history of emmigration, so it is possible that some of the Franeys out there are related.

I love reading about Franeys all over the world and seeing them on TV.

I would like to hear from other Franeys, maybe we are related!

Patricia,

Good to hear from you. I have encountered your name in previous searches on the internet and found it quite quaint for a Franey to marry a Franey as there isn't to many of us around. It is my intention to make enquiries in Co Wexford, as I have found addresses for Franeys in that area. I will also make enquiries with the Church down that way. I will remember to look for information regarding John and Catherine when I am looking.

Hopefully, I will contact you again with some positive information.

All the best.

Joe!

She later married John Sikkink, (born Wisconsin) and raised her family in Fillmore County, Minnesota. The Sikkink family seems to be from Winterswyk Holland. I printed some of the letters for Maxine, I will ask her if she has any pictures to put on the site. I told her her grandmother Dena and Dena's father Gerrit Jan are speaking to her through the internet! It's amazing how much info there is, thank you so much for putting me on the site, I need to get Maxine over to my house so she can see this for herself,
Take care,
Mari Lorenz

William E. Newhouse(1864-1939)and wife Mary Frances Dooley(1864-1939) came from Indiana to Bakersfield via New Mexico. They had three children: Winnifred(1890-1984), Edna(1892-1968) and Gregory(1894-1948). William and Mary are buried in Union Cemetery, Bakersfield. Winifred "Winnie" was born July 20, 1890 in Allen County, Indiana. In Los Angeles on August 12, 1912, she married Charles Henry Franey, born October 25, 1887, the son of (Charles?)Henry Franey and Agnes F(H?)ennessey. While one child died in infancy, the sons that grew to adulthood are Joseph, James, Gerald, John and Francis. Charles H. Franey died 12-11-58; Winifred died 01-01-84. Both are also buried in Union Cemetery along side his father Henry Franey. Does this help your genealogical quest?

John and Gertrude Schreurs TeSelle was born in "Huis of Stiega" located about 3 miles south of Winterswyk. I would love to hear from others who may be related to this family.
FRANEY'S OF NOVA SCOTIA

There are several of us here who are related to the Franey's of Nova Scotia. I am the youngest daughter of Albert and Marjorie (nee Walker) Franey (Weston, N.S.), and a 3rd cousin of Stephen Franey. Stephen's father John and my father Albert were brothers (Albert is deceased). I don't know tons about their history but it's always great to learn more about our connections.

FREANEY/FRANEY of New Ross, Co. Wexford

I am trying to track down my grandmother's family. She left New Ross in 1927 with her four sisters to come to NYC. My grandmother's name was Frances and her sisters were Catherine, Jane, Bridget and Eileen. Do you have any suggestions as to where I can find some records that indicate the family in New Ross in the 1920's.
