I'm curious if anyone has had any experience with Frankels changing their names to Franklin. The family legend (myth?) is that the Jewish Franklins of Phila./Balto. were originally Frankels, but I haven't found any immigration records yet. They don't seem to have arrived through the Port of Baltimore, at least. There seem to be a lot of Frankels/Frankles who didn't change their names. Does anyone know what the chances were of someone deciding to change Frankel to Franklin? It seems like a fairly obvious modification if you're looking to Americanize the name.
