Minnie Frankel

I am seeking any information on Minnie Frankel, of either New York or Ohio. I have a photo of her headstone, death date Sept. 17, 1931, age 34 years, beloved wife and dear mother. There are five women and one man standing around the headstone, the man maybe Minnie's brother Maxmillian Platt.
Does anyone know who Minnie is or where she came from?

Hello. Wondering if you still frequent this message board. My relatives trace back to Czortkow. I am looking for information on Schloma Frenkel, my great grandfather. I would like to find his parents. His 3rd wife (?) was Ettel (maternal grandfather's name may be Nusin Demant) who died in 1897 in childbirth. Schloma brought up his daughter Ettie, in Suchostaw I believe, a nearby town. Any of these names familiar to anyone?

Yes, it happened in my family. A Frankel became a Franklin when he joined the US Coast Guard during WWII.

I have a copy of the U.S. Social Security Act Application for Michael Goldstein ( who's last name was changed to Golden ).

His Parents are listed as Rebica Frankel And Abrham Goldstein.

He was born in Baltimore Maryland, But moves to Newark New Jersey, where he applied for this application. If anyone is interested in this let me know and I will get a copy to you.

It came in my hands because I sent for it, well not this one, but doin my searches to find MICHAEL GOLDEN that I am related to, and there are alot of Michael Golden's.
Anyways I have this if anyone is interested.

Finkelstein to Frankel

My cousin's father changed his surname from Finkelstein to Frankel between 1930 and early 1940's. I don't what documents to search.

Hello All

I am seeking any and all information on Joseph & Jennie Frankel. Mostly I am interested in the wife Jennie. She would have been born about 1895 most likely in Poland. i am trying to find out what her maiden name was. I am hoping it was Fajkes/Faikes. My great-aunt Rose(Fajkes/Faikes)Friedman(deceased) came over in 1922 on the SS Lapland and she was going to a Brother-in-Law Joseph D. Frankel 2519 North Stanley Street, Philadelphia PA.

So, I am assuming that this Jennie was originally a Faikes/Fajkes and related to my great-aunt as a sibling. if anyone has any information on this family it would be greatly appreciated. I am trying to find out More information on my grandfathers family. My grandfather is Milton faikes/Fajkes, sister to my great-aunt.

He is in his 90's and does not recall much, and there is no one else I can ask. Any and all help is appreciated.

Hi Susan, my great grandfather was born in that area of Poland. He is recorded as being Russian which ties in.
he was born circ 1863 and named Bernard Frankel. Can you tie this in anywhere. Brian.

Looking for info on Jacob Frankel, possibly born around 1880's, lived in NJ for a time with his first wife, Anna Finkelstein of New Bedford, MA (my maternal great grandmother). He had two childeren with Anna, Ethel and Harry, both of whom lived in Bergen/Hudson Counties NJ area. Wondering if he re-married and had other children? This would have been sometime after 1910.

i have an abraham frankel from russia. wife unknown, but i know he had a son. my abraham came from ukraine, a small village called yarshiv (sp?) on the dneistr river. abraham had siblins jennie, david, herman, philip and max. parents krintze chaije and josef leib. settled in ny around 1900's.

Dennis, I don't think our Jacob Frankels are the same. Mine was born in Poland and came to the US in the late 1800's. He settled in Louisiana and married Emma Loeb and had 5 children - only 3 of which survived. He had a brother named Isaac but I don't think he ever came to America. I noticed you had Jacob and Isaac in your list of Frankels. I am also researching my Frankel and have 52 Frankel names so far, most I know a lot about.
The Jacob (Jakob?) Frankel on my list was born in 1845, died 1934, married a Bertha Kisinski (?), and had no less than 11 children, Isaac (Izaak) being one of them. It has actually from Isaac's line that I come from. Isaac had a son Berthold, who was my father.

There's a Max Franklin, may have originally been Frankel, buried at Har Jehuda Cemetery in Philadelphia. Max may have been the son of Moshe Nisan Frankel and also may have been the father of Samuel Franklin.

There may be a "Frank" connection. Apparently, some of the Frankels changed their name to Frank. In our family, we have a Joseph O. Frank, son of Moshe and Reva Frankel (born before 1832), grandson of Zalman and Gutel Frankel (born before 1812). The family comes from Lithuania. Joseph and his brothers and sisters went to Chicago (at least initially).

She was born about 1852 in Bobirishok,Lithuania, married Benjamin Block, and emigrated to Steeltown, PA about 1920. Her parents were Moshe and Riva Frankel, and she had a sister, Michla, and three brothers, Joseph, Samuel and Charles. Her Frankel grandparents were Zalman and Gutel. Some of our Frankels were named Frank.We have a Joseph O. Frank (18??, 1918) who emigrated to the US and married Anna, a brother Samuel who married Fannie, and a brother Charles who married Lena. Their father, Moshe Frankel, was born in Lithuania before 1832. Their grandfather, Zalman Frankel was born in Lithuania before 1812. Is it possible that your Menachem Mendal Frankel was a brother to Moshe, thus another son of Zalman?
Where is or was Druskinki? In what part of Lithuania? Have you ever heard of a town called Bobirishok?

My maternal great great great grandfather's name was Shlomo(Shlumka) Frankel, born 1830 in Lodz.died 1913. His son, Akiva Frankel( born 1855 died 1897) was married to Fredal Stiglitz,( my maternal great great grandparents.)I believe they lived in Lodz

Gitel married Menachem Weintraub
Sarah (mima Sura) married Moishe Prisant(went to New York)
Leibl(went to New York 1905 approx
Chayim went to New York approx 1910 or 1912
Sima (perished in the Holocaust)
Avraham was my maternal great grandfather married Ruda Tushinsky they lived in Lodz and in Bolimow where he was the Shochet. They had 4 sons and went to Israel early 30's or late 20's.
My grandfather Akiva Frankel was born in LOdz in 1898.(died Melbourne 1992) He married Ester Mariam Sochchewski and they came to Melbourne, Australia, he in 1928 and she and their children in 1931. They had 3 children, Morris, Max and Freda Frankel who was my mother.
I have some more information but I am just embarking on this search and I am hoping to find more about my family history.

Hello, I am seaerching for my g-graandmother Jenni Frankel who married Sam Rubenstein. Jenni came to USA sometime prior to 1909 with her 3 brothers, Phillip, Herman and Max. Jenni and Sam had 5 chikdren: Henry, Celia, Annie, Morton, Ruth and Bernard. The family story is that Jenni and her sibs escaped under a pile of hay in the back of a wagon. I'm curious if anyone has had any experience with Frankels changing their names to Franklin. The family legend (myth?) is that the Jewish Franklins of Phila./Balto. were originally Frankels, but I haven't found any immigration records yet. They don't seem to have arrived through the Port of Baltimore, at least. There seem to be a lot of Frankels/Frankles who didn't change their names. Does anyone know what the chances were of someone deciding to change Frankel to Franklin? It seems like a fairly obvious modification if you're looking to Americanize the name.

Turns out it was Frenkel, from the damaged Ellis Island manifest of my grandmother, "Lifsche Frenkel," that I finally managed to tease out of the database.

I have just ordered Fraenkel and Fraenkel's "Forgotten Fragments of the Fraenkel Family" from the German publisher. Has anyone managed to link up with this tree yet? It contains 11,000 names!

Most of the Frankels who ended up in the Ukraine became Frenkels. From what I can tell these are generally from the Teomim-Frankel branch. There are a minimum of 5 branches of the Frankel family. They are not descended from the same ancestor but being rabbinic families and Levites they have often intermarried. There is a Rubenstein connection as well. See, for example, http://www.osiek.org/ogf/fraenkel.html The Frenkels who migrated to the US often became Franklins, as did my family.

Your first step should probably be to find out when your people immigrated, through the census records or the Ellis Island database or ship's manifests. Then you can send for records from the INS that may have places of birth, etc. It's a long struggle, one clue at a time.

No clue? The Frankels come from Franken in Austria west of Vienna. There are two main branches, the Wallerstein-Frankels and the Teomim-Frankels. Most of the Frankels from "Russia" (actually Eastern Europe) are from the Teomim-Frankel branch. The Teomim-Frankels adopted the Frankel part of their name in Prague in the 17th Century. Most of the rabbis in Eastern Europe were related to the Frankels. The reason most Frankels in the US are from Eastern Europe (former Russian Empire) is because most Jewish people in the US came here from there after 1881, the so-called Third Wave of immigration.

She immigrated to USA and married George Grassel. They resided in San Francisco & Oakland, California until their deaths. We are the Frankel family from Suriname, South America.
Our ancestor was Benajmin Friedrich August Frankel, born Nov. 5th 1809 in Breslau. His parents were Friedrich Frankel and Thresa Marcus. He came to Suriname, through Holland in 1836 to serve as a soldier in the colonial army. We are now in the making of our family tree and are ofcourse interested in anything about the Frankels!
