I went grave searching for curiosity to Sacrd Heart Cemetery est 1879... found the Loiusa Franken b, 7-3-1879 d 7-30-1879 only lived 27 days. I have a perfect pic I took to share for free to anyone who she belngs to. Looks like she may have been the first if not one of several intererred that same yr cemetery was est. Intesesting...

I have information on their marriage and children. Also, some on the ancsestors on both sides. I have a copy of the passenger list of the ship Ursula came over on. How do you fit into this family so I know where to begin? Ursula Franken was my great grandfather's sister.

Theodore Franken, Germany>Missouri

I descend from a Theodore Fraken, married to Catherine Merten, who immigrated to California, MO, in 1880. Their daughter, Elizabeth (Barbara Elizabeth or Elizabeth Margaret) was born near Cologne, Germany. Theodore and Catherine's children were: Mary, Anna Katherine, Gertrude Rosalie, Joseph Henry, Elizabeth, Anna Christina, Johhy, Henry Joseph, and Clara Anna. Theodore moved his family to Rooks Co., KS, in 1892. In 1906 they moved to Oklahoma.

Is there any chance that my Theodore is related to your ancestor, given that they both came from the same area of Germany and settled in Missouri? Theodore's parents were Henrich Wilhelm Franken and Venonica Kline according to information from my mother and her cousin.

HI, Martina,

It does make one wonder if there are ties between your ancestors and mine, because of the names. Have you been able to trace any church records? My parents tried when they were in Germany in 1968 but were told they were lost during the war. My Theodore Franken was Catholic and served in the military. Most of his pictures show him with his medals on. Is there any possiblity that military records survived the war? Do you live in Germany? You mentioned in another post that your father's family was still in the Cologne area.

It is worth a try. In my other geneaology lines there were several families who married within the two family lines. In fact, my grandmother (Franken/Hilgers) and her sister married two Hilgers brothers. Thanks for the info.

Good to hear from you. Do you have any information about relatives of Wilhelm's who might not have come till 1880? There were a number of Franken's in the California MO area from what I have found. That is where Theodore Franken took his family. Some of the older children were born in Hafen, Germany and another cousin said some were born in Luxenberg, Germany. If nothing else, Wilhelm was probably a cousin.

I'm looking for a family hook-up to Katherine Franken who in 1918 sent a note from Ottumwa, Iowa at the birth of my mother-in-law. My mother-in-law's great grandmother was Mary Franken who was born in 1845 in Prussia/Germany and who married August Hoeft, also born in Prussia/Germany. I would like to follow up on the Franken line.

I also found an early 1900 letter from James Franken of Utah.

I have a Brand Hendrikse in my tree, he had a son in 1788, his name was Geurt Hendrikse. I'm not sure if he had any brothers or sisters.

Brand was married to Evertje van der Flierbeek around the years 1780/1788.

My grandfather’s mother was Johanna Helena Haase. She was the firstborn child of Henry Haase (b. 4 Oct. 1850) and Gretze Franken (b. 1 March 1858). Johanna was born in Germany on Sept 14, 1883. She and her husband Gerret Sanders lived in Glenvil Nebraska and later Pine Bluffs Wyoming. Johanna’s siblings were: Ida, Maria, Emma x2, John x2, Grace, Anna, Maria, Margaret, & Freda Gertrude. Reminds one of “The Fiddler on the Roof” as Henry & Gretze were blessed with mostly daughters. Which may account for why the Haase name seems to be in shorter supply then some. Does anyone know where in Germany these Franken folk lived or came from? Or who Gretze's parents or siblings where?

B: 1837 germany, D: ??? Moniteau County MO

No record of marriage. He did take US citizenship.
He was the son of Anna Sybilla Franken and one of 10 children.

Aalbertje married Jan Bernardus KLEINPASTE born 1809, place in the Netherlands and date unknown. Their third son was Bernardus Albertus KLEINPASTE born:15 Sept. 1854, married Hendrijntje KELDERMAN born: 6 Oct. 1857. Other children named Frank, Gys, Jan Bernardus and girls called Jet and Rick. I have some names, but I'm not sure I have all of them or in one case I have a nickname, Jet, for a woman. These are the names I have: Jan Bernardus (Jr.), Gerhardus Gijsbertus (married Johanna Willemson 23 Dec 1885), "Jet", Hendrika, Frank Johan(emigrated to U.S.A. in approx 1885/86), and Bernardus Albertus. You said you couldn't find any information on Bernardus Albertus, I've heard that from others, but I have all of it!

Hi,

I don't know anything about Theodore's family. Only that his daughter, Elizabeth, my grandmother, told us she was born near Cologne, Germany. Theodore fought in the Franco Prussian War and wore his medals in most of the pictures of him. They came to the US when Elizabeth was 6 weeks old, I think in 1880, and settled in California MO. They lived there several years and then moved to Rooks Co. KS and eventually on to Oklahoma. I would think your family and mine might be cousins if we only could find the records.

I just found a scrap of paper which had a note my mother told me...her grandfather, Theodore Franken, was a son of Henrich Wilhelm Franken and Veronica Kline. Theodore was born Dec. 19, 1840 near Koln, Germany. He brought his family to the US, settling in California MO in April 1880. I thought you might mention this to your German relatives to see if it rings any bells.

Could your Theodore Franken have been born May 2, 1837 near Cologne? I have a Theodore married to a Catherine who lived around California, MO. One of his brothers said he was born in Sieberg, Germany which is a small place on the outskirts of Cologne. The rest of the family always said "near" Cologne. Could this be the same Theodore?

Franken Germany to Wisconsin

My gg grandfather was Paul Franken who came to Wisconsin from Germany in 1854-56 with his wife and daughter, Ursula. On the same ship were his brothers Sebastian and Peter. They settled in the Milwaukee, WI area. Paul's first son, Sebastian, married Elizabeth Jorres. They had my grandfather, Hugo who married Ada Huck. There were many children in each of these families. Would like to share information.

I also had an ancestor named Wilhelm Franken; he lived in Aldenrath, southwest of Cologne, was born 1782 or 1783. Do you think he might be related to your Wilhelm Franken?

Swedish Frankens

Hi, I'm looking for any Frankens that may have Swedish origins and possibly may have been from the Chicago area. When my gr-gr-Grandfather came over with his brothers they each took different names, Johnson, Fukes and Franken. My grandmother believes Johnson (or a swedish variation thereof) may have been the original family name, and that the two brothers each take the name of their employer. They first came to Chicago from Sweden and the Franken brother's first name may have been John. At least one daughter of his known to have been a Regina Franken, who was a teacher in the Chicago area and never married.

I'm not related to this family but I recently came into possession an original "cropped" obit for John Lidy, father of Loretta Lidy married to Leo Franken of Brooklyn, NY.
I just finished do some research on John Lidy and came across the marriage of Leo and Loretta. I believe they had a son named Randolph Lidy Franken b. 1900 and d. 1967 in NY.
If we are indeed speaking of the same individual and you'd like a copy of this obit, just let me know and I'll forward you a copy.

I have found Aalbertje Franken on the internet site of the Dutch Public Record Office, marriage certificates. She married Jan Bernardus Kleinpaste (also Kleinpasten) 29 januari 1842 in Ede (province of Gelderland) He is 33 years old and she is 26 years old. Both come from Otterloo, it doesn't say if they are also born there. Her fathers name is Hendrik Franken, here mothers name is Nennetje Rutten (also Nennetje Hendriksen, Nennetje van Essen, Nennetje Rutten van Essen).
Hendrik and Nennetje were married 11 march 1812 in Ede. He is 25 years old and she is 20 years old. She comes from Garderen, he comes from Ede. Hendrik's father is called Breunis Franken, his mother's name is not mentioned. Nennetjes father is called Rutger Hendriksen, her mother Albertje Barten van Essen.
I also found the marriage certificates of two daughters of Aalbertje Franken, namely Gerritje Kleinpaste and Henderika (also Hendrika, she married twice) Kleinpaste, and of two of her sisters and one brother, namely Bartha, Geertje and Franklis. Are you interested in more information concerning this? I could not find anything on her son Bernardus Albertus.
I also have information about the parents, brothers and sisters of Jan Bernardus Kleinpaste. Interested?
You must know that I can only find marrige (and sometimes death-)certificates, so if there are children in a family that didn't marry, they are not mentioned.

The mariagecertificates on the two daughters I've found are:

1. Gerritje Kleinpaste, age 22 and comes from Apeldoorn. Married on 1 feb 1868 in Ede, province of Gelderland to Hendrik Hendrikse, age 32 and comes from Ede. His father is Brand Hendrikse, his mother is Lutje Hissink.

2. Hendrika (or Henderika) Kleinpaste, age 31 comes from Apeldoorn. Married on 17 dec 1881 in Apeldoorn, province of Gelderland to Johannes Huiskamp, age 24 comes from Apeldoorn. His father is Gerrit Martinus Huiskamp, his mother is Jacoba Tiemens.
Hendrika married for the second time on 25 may 1889 in Apeldoorn, at the age of 38 and widow of Johannes Huiskamp. Her second husband is Barend Huijgen, age 38 comes from Apeldoorn. He is also a widower of Hendrika van 't Hoof. His father is Gerrit Huijgen, his mother is Geertrui Kruimer.

There is also a mariage certificate of a daughter of 1.Gerritje. As follows:
Johanna Alberta Hendrikse, age 25 comes from Apeldoorn. Daughter from Hendrik Hendrikse and Gerritje Kleinpaste. Married on 23 mar 1895 in Ede with Cornelis van Asselt, age 23 comes from Helder. Son of Hendrik van Asselt and Geertje van der Steeg.

This is all I found on their children, but I must say that the concerning internetsite is still in a testing fase, and not all the cities and villages have imported their archives in the database already.
I have names and data of Aalbertjes siblings and also of Jan Bernardus siblings and their children.
