I'm looking for any information on my Grandfather Henry Frans. He was married to Erma, and had a daughter named Doris Elizabeth born Feb 22, 1925.
Henry was in the Army sometime in 1916, 1919, some place in there. I have no family left to help with this search, and I am trying to put a family tree together for my little granddaughter. So any help would be wonderful.
Thanks, Bree.

My Grandfathers name was Henry, not Harry. I don't know if he had a bother or not, so mybe there is a relationship here. From what I know of his family back ground was Kentucy, and around that area. All I'm sure of is that, when he and my Grandmother were living and raising my mother, they lived in ILL. I don't even know where they were married. I can't find a SS# on him either. My Grandmother never had a job so I guess I'm out of luck there I have some Miltiary records, but not enough for information, I have looked untill I'm blurry eyed. LOL If you can halp at all I would be so greatful.
Bree

frans - belgium

In the area where I was born (between Antwerp and Mechelen), Frans happens to be one of the most current family names. It's also a first name. I know of at least two people who are named Frans Frans - how cruel parents can be!
I'm pretty sure that all you Frans-people originated here, in Flanders, Belgium.
My reasons for believing this ?
* It can't be a German name - then it would be Franz.
* The name is very rare in Holland.
* Frans in (Flemish=)Dutch also means: "French" - which could explain the original meaning of the name.

NY John France

My brick wall is John France b abt. 1760 d Jan. 21 1811 (per "Ulster County in the Revolution".) His wife, Sarah Elting and daughter-in-law, Catherine DuBois both have well documented ancestry; their ancestors and descendants resided in Ulster County, New York and vicinity for many years, but nothing for John France's ancestors. Have you come across "my" John France? I assume that "my" John (Johannes) has roots in France/Germany/Netherlands,the same as the women married to the France men. However, I'd be very interested to know the origins of YOUR France. Jeanne

My John (Johannes) France (Frans) is first recorded in America in NY in 1760 but PERHAPS he and/or parents came to VA first? My brother is William. Other given names in addition to France wives surnames as middle names (DuBois, Deyo,LeFevre,Freer,Elting,DePuy,Bruyn,Aldrich, etc.) were George,Herman,Oliver,Devine,Joy,Maria,Henry,Andrew,Clarence, etc. Where did YOUR first in America France/Frans come from (France,Germany,Netherlands,or?) I have corresponded with several other NY France researchers that appear to be different lines and counties from mine. Jeanne

I am searching for the ancestors and possibly some descendants in Germany of Joachim DE BIE / DE BYE, ex-Potsdam, Brandenburg, Prussia and Maria Anna LECLERCQ. Their son Johannes, Peter, Jozef, born at Potsdam about 1756, an armourer, arrived together with his parents at Mechelen, Belgium, about 1780. Were their ancestors originally native from the Netherlands, invited to immigrate into Prussia in the 17th century? Was there anywhere in Germany someone named DE BIE, married with a women named EBERBACH or EBERSBACH about 1680? Thank you in advance.
Elisabeth De Bie

JOHN FRANS[FRANCE]

"My" line of the Frans Family came to Virginia sometime in the 1700's.The earliest Frans name of which there is a record,is William Frans, whose wife was Nancy Carter.Additional information on the Frans[France] Family and related Families can be found in the book, first published in 1933,"History of Patrick and Henry Counties,Virginia" by Pedigo. Also there is a privately published history of the Frans Family written by Jean Frates Lambert. The only copy of this book available to the public, that I know of,is in the Museum of the Historical Society of Patrick County,Virginia,in Stuart,Virginia.
