The name is generally regarded as having French origins- from "fraise", the French word for strawberries. One of the earliest Frazer castles is Neidpath, near Peebles in Scotland; it has a stone carving of strawberries over the outer gate. Google neidpath & strawberry for more info.
My Frazers came from Antrim, Armagh & Down. Still searching for descendants of Dr. Henry Frazer MD, d1891 Armagh.

Bruce Frazer, Melbourne, Australia

They seemed to go all over the place - England, US and Australia. No idea why.

My Dad used to say that we were from Scotland and that we could have had a castle there but to inherit it my grandfather had to go and live there, which he would not do. I can find no links to Scotland with what I have found so far. So not sure where the story came from - my Dad, Grandpa or further back. But I doubt I will ever find that castle!

Hi Deirdre

We were in contact back in September 2007. Unfortunately I still have not been able to make a connection with your Frazer line. There is always the possibility that there is a connection there somewhere. I do have a John Frazer but he emigrated to US and married Mary Isabella Miller.

Shirley

Shirley...

My FRAZERs are from Co Armagh also, and part of their family wound up in Australia :o)

Are you, by any chance, related to either Agnes FRAZER or Sarah FRAZER (both daughters of John FRAZER & Elizabeth JOHNSTON)... who both moved to Australia? Agnes was married to a James HARVEY and had 4 children, and Sarah was married to a Sinclair GILPIN.

~Deirdre Dougan Piccini

Alexander FRASER, Nursery-Man, Ferryhill, Aberdeen, Scotland

I am hoping that someone may be able to either help me or point me in the right direction in sorting out the parentage of my 3 x Great Grandfather, Alexander FRAZER (sometimes spelt FRAZER).

Currently this is the information I have collected from various birth, death and marriage and other records:
Name: Alexander Fraser,
Birth date: most likely around 1795-1800
Death (or burial) date: 14 Jan 1830, Aberdeen.
Burial Register text: “Alexander Fraser, Nurseryman, Ferryhills”
Spouse: Agnes KIETH (sometimes spelt KEITH) [born 1799, died 1848]
Marriage: 2 Mar 1828, Old Machar, Aberdeenshire.
Bann register text: “Alexander Fraser, Nursery-man, Ferryhill and Agnes Keith Daughter of John Keith Manager Poynernook both in this parish, signified their purpose of marriage by Mr Wm Taylor, Elder and being thrice proclaimed”
Children:
1. Margret (or Margaret) FRAZER, christened Old Machar, 9 Jan 1829 [My 2 x Great Grandmother]; and
2. Alexander Keith FRAZER, christened Old Machar, 12 Jun 1830.

I am now at an impasse as it is difficult to narrow down who his parents may be. I was hoping the Ferryhill reference might provide a clue but it does not seem to appear in other records I’ve been able to find.

I have searched the internet high and low, including sites such as Ancestry.com, findmypast, rootsweb, google...... you name it – I’ve looked. I have obtained digital copies of the above original records.

Over the course of this research this particular Alexander Fraser has been linked with no less than 6 different sets of parents. I was hoping someone may have something that could help solve the mystery, or perhaps suggest further contacts for me.

Leanne

Later in the 1900 census she is single with a young daughter Ella in Cinncinnati. In 1910 John shows up in Alaska . So I think they divorced and he went looking for gold. He later moved to Wrangell Alaska where he died in in 1928

MY grgrandfather, James Rolston bn, 1834 and his Sister, Sarah Jane Rolston bn abt 1840 were born in Blackwatertown, County Armagh .
They emigrated to Ontario, Canada around 1849. They both name their parents as James and Ann Rolston.
I've just returned from Ireland and spent time in Blackwatertown {charming farming community}. Also visited The Church of Ireland just minutes away in Confeacle, County Tyrone.
I believe it's possible that your Sarah Rolston was the elder sister to Sarah Jane and James. There were several siblings in the Family.
I'm seeking the maiden name of their Mother, Ann Rolston.
Do you have the marriage document of Sarah and Joseph Frazer and if so, does it state the maiden name of
Sarah's Mother?
Look forward to hearing from you.
Christine Boules

Alexander Frazer falls from wagon, Oakland

I have a newspaper clipping and photo of Alexander Frazer, and express wagon driver. The title is Falls From Wagon--Dead. It looks to be around the turn of the century, 1900s. It was in the section of ancestor photos that contains Bingham family members. I have researched and find no connection to my family.

Any ideas?

I am still trying to identify Alexander Frazer. The photo came from my (deceased) mother's file. It was filed in with Bingham family photos and clippings.

There is not a date or any identification from the newspaper it was posted in. The address given is 407 15th Street, Oakland. He is listed as an Express wagon driver.

Nancy

Lamond: Lemon: Fraser: Frazer : Frager

seeking a connection mid-1800's between Annie Lamond/Lemon and Robert Fraser (b. 1832 Scotland.)

Mr. Fraser retired from the military while posted in Lower Canada and settled eventually somewhere in Ontario. He and Annie had 7 children: Donald, Margaret, Catherine, Christina, Hugh, Mary & John. They were Roman Catholic and Mary apparently became a nun (anyone who might know where to research that, please let me know.) Prior 1890, Robert took Catherine & Christina back to Scotland to live. I can find no record of a marriage or the births or what happened to Annie. I am also not sure if Annie was the birth mother of Donald and Catherine,(due to time frames) however she did raise them.

On Catherine' marriage & Robert's death certificate's Annie's maiden name is Lamond. On Christina's death certificate, Annie's maiden name is Lemon. Annie was supposedly from Ontario, but Donald was born in NB, Margaret & Christina in N.S., Hugh in Quebec and the others in Ontario. Donald was my grandfather.

Considering borders were not clearly defined till later in the 1800's, there is a chance the births and marriage occurred in what is now the USA.

Name variations on documentations are Lamond: Lemon: Fraser: Frazer : Frager

The only Perchment males of the right age in Ohio would have been one of the 3 sons of William Perchment (born 1830), but Charles A married Jessie S Unknwown, Henry Leonart married Mary Kearsey, and William (born 1862) is not known to have married. However, William may have roved about since a John W Perchment was found in the 1880 census of Auglaize County, Ohio; as a private from Cincinnati in the Spanish American War, and in the Yukon territory on a Canadian genealogy site. Another possibility is that one of the other 2 brothers married again late in life?

Hi Walter, I think we have been in contact before. I emailed you back in November last year and you sent me the details of your Frazer clan from Armagh. I have not yet found a link. My Frazers in Armagh are as follows:
Joseph Frazer died in Blackwatertown in 1834. He had four sons. The first son, William died at the age of 6 (1823-1829). The second son James (1825-1887) emigrated to England. The third son, Joseph(1527-1900) stayed in Blackwatertown and married Sarah Rolston, they had five children. The fourth son, Moses(1831-1916) emigrated to Australia. I am the great great great granddaughter of Joseph Jnr through his son, also Joseph who emigrated to Australia and married a Mary Kenny.
I believe that Joseph Jnr and Sarah Rolston are buried in the family plot at the Clonfeacle Parish Church, Benburb.
