Ray Fread, son of Ernest and Anne (Sewell) Fread, was born November 2, 1929 in Ayrshire, Iowa. He attended grade school in Rodman and graduated from Emmetsburg High School in 1947.
Ray was employed as a union electrician for many years before his retirement in 1992.
On July 11, 1998 Ray was united in marriage to Bette Freepons in Emmetsburg, Iowa. Ray moved to the Walla Walla, Washington area nine years ago from Rockford, Illinois. He enjoyed spending time in Yuma, Arizona. His interests included playing golf, wood working and bird watching.
He was a member of the China Marine Association, Washington Odd Fellows, V.F.W. Grant Farmer Post #992 I.B.E.W. of Rockford, Illinois and the College Place Presbyterian Church.
Ray died Wednesday, May 30, 2007 at his home in Washington. He is survived by his wife, Bette; three daughters and two sons-in-law, Kate and Jim Leslie of Prior Lake, MN, Tammy and John Scott of Jordan, MN and Debbie Creviston of Rockford, IL; step daughters, Ann and her husband, Harry Hamada of Walla Walla, WA, Becky and her husband, Wally Flores of Sunnyside, WA, Mary Brown of Everett, WA, and Susan and her husband, David Eisenhower of Selah, WA; two sons and daughters-in-law, Paul and Linda Fread of Minneapolis, MN and Dave and Debbie Fread of Loves Park, IL; his former wife, Marjorie Fread of Burnsville, MN; a sister, Darlene Fry of Emmetsburg, IA two brothers and sisters-in-law, Kenneth and Vivian Fread of Ruthven and Richard and RaeJean Fread of Port Richey, FL; nine grandchildren; seven great grandchildren; and eight nieces and nephews.
Ray was preceded in death by his good friend, Bud.
