Thanks for the info - Frances had a sad life after Norman died, as you can tell. She lost her son in the war and was quite lonely - visited her sisters in CA and Canada but died in an RAF widows home in England.

Re: The Freakley name

I have recently been trawling through info for Freakley family members on Ancestry.Com and quite a lot has emerged for Norman Edward and family.

From the beginning, in 1858 John and Elizabeth Freakley, living in Sandon, near Stafford, had a son Edward Thomas ( Reg Q1 1858 Stone,6b 28 from FreeBMD), christened at Sandon 2Feb1858 (via IGI). I can find no Marriage recorded for Edward but in 1881 census an Edward F. Freakley age 23 (suspect the F. is a transcription error) born England, wife Emma S. aged 29 and Son Norman E. aged 4 in Kircaldy, Fife, Scotland. Unfortunately Scotlands People will not allow Ancestry to distribute more info. However everything else fits and also I can find no other Norman except Norman Ivor, Edwards son.

We know from FreeBMD that Norman E. Freakley's birth was registerd in 1876 (Q4 1876 Litchfield,6b 461) and from his Hudson Bay record he was born in Rugeley, Staffs.

Again from Hudson Bay he was married 30Dec1920, and from seandury1 this was to Frances D.H. Menagh. This will later be shown to be Frances Dorrington Harper Menagh. Seandury1 also gives us their son Norman Ivor who is recorded by the Commonwealth War Graves commision ( see "http://www.cwgc.org/search/casualty_details.aspx?casualty=20..." ).

Some of this may seem a bit tenuous but in 1932. following the deaths of Edward Thomas and Norman Edward, Frances was involved in some Probate legislation as follows (via Ancestry) :

Probate for Edward Thomas Freakley Bishton Cottage, Wolsey Bridge, Staffs who died 18Dec1928 (With Will, Limited) at birmingham 11th June 1929 to Mary Elizabeth Hopkins, Spinster, Attorney to Norman Edward Freakley. Effects £98.11.5p.

Probate for Edward Thomas Freakley of Bishton Cottage, Wolsey Bridge, Staffs who died 18Dec1928, Admin with will at Birmingham on 22Nov1932 to Frances Dorrington Harper Freakley, widow. Effects £1.
Former Grant Directed at Birmingham 11Jun1928.

Will of Norman Edward Freakley who died 17May1930. Probate granted 4Nov1932 to Frances Dorrington Harper Freakley, widow. Effects £1.

Also tying this all in more tightly Ancestry again listed TransAtlantic Passenger list and the following were of interest:-

3Jul1932 Frances D.H. Freakley arrived Boston (NY) from Liverpool aboard SS "Laconia". Her age was given as 44, her occupation midwife and Norman Ivor, aged 9 was with her. Her birthplace was given as Co. Cork in the Irish Free State, Norman Ivors given as Alberta Canada and their address as Stafford.

9Mar1933 arrived Los Angeles from London aboard SS "Dinteldijk". Her birth c 1888, heroccupation was housework and Norman Ivor, Student, born Edmonton, Canada was with her.

26Oct1935 arrived Liverpool from Montreal aboard SS "Duchess of Bedford". Her birth was given as c1892 and Norman Ivor, aged 13 was with her. Their proposed address was Dishton Cottage, Wolsey Bridge, Staffs which featured in the Probate proceedings.

11Nov1946 arrived New York from Southampton aboard SS "Queen Elizabeth". Her birth was given as c1890 and Age 56, her bithplace Bandon Ireland.

I think these details tie it all together nicely, especially the Mar 1933 return which could fit in wih being here for the probate.

Incidently Sandon, Wolsey Bridge and Rugeley, for anyone not familiar with the area, are only about 6-8 miles from each other.

Hope you may find this of interest.

Mac
I am looking for more info on Norman Edward Freakley. I know he had one son, Norman Ivor Freakley (b. 1922 in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada), who served in the RAF and died in the service in Dec 1944. I am related through Norman Edward's wife, Frances D.H. Menagh, and her sister Sarah Ethel Menagh. I am willing to share information with anyone interested.

Hi Glendasandy

I don't know of any offspring for Norman Edward Freakley, but if you Google 'Norman Freakley' you will find him in the records of the Hudson bay Co. It gives his marriage date and the fact that he had one offsprin, but at the moment I can't find anything else.

Hope this helps you.

Mac

I've recently come across the Freakley name as well. I'm looking into my great-grandmother's history. Based on what I've been told, and since we have no formal record, what I have indicates that perhaps Norman Edward Freakley (1876-c.1950) was her father. He too was born in Staffordshire, England. If you or anyone has any information on him, let me know!

Regards...
