Hi Chris Ann,

I believe I can help you. This history sounds very familar.
My understanding is Michael Freda who was my great-grandfather was born in New York and was in the Spanish/American War. Our understanding Michael's fathers name was Vito Freda and he immigrated directly from Italy. Michael married Florence VanAmberg (did not realize her first name could have been Veronica). Michael and Florence had 7 children (Minerva, Lester, John, William, Edward, Fran and Helen (Died when a child). My Grandfather is Edward James Freda. Florence's father was Issac Van Amberg, lived in New York and fought in the Civil War. We know that Florence had at least one sister named Annie Van Amberg-Mckenzie who lived in New York.

My Grandfather married Mary Catherine Egbert and they had two children (Lester Edward Freda and Mary Catherine Freda). My father is Lester Edward Freda.

We had heard the name may have been changed, however, did not have any proof of this. I have been talking with my father regarding our family tree, however, he gave me what he remembered.

I have pictures of the Michael and Florence Freda. Also a picture of Issac Van Amberg.

I hope this helps. If you have any additional information, please let me know.
