I'm trying to locate any records or links that gets Fredenberg/Friedenberg/Vredenbergs to Hawaii. The only clues I have so far is that my GGrandfather Hiram Fredenberg had a cousin Wilhelm Friedenberg who came to Hawaii around 1848.

I too am a descendant of the Fredenberg's from near Shawano, WI. I have a great deal of information, regarding this family line as I am a descendant of David Fredenberg Sr. and David Fredenberg Jr. both who lived near Shawano. David Sr. was born in Duck Creek, WI. His son David Jr, also born in Duck Creek spent much of his life in Neopit on the Menominee reservation working in the lumber trade. David Jr. is buried in Shawano, with his wife Ameila Bahrke Fredenberg.David's grandfather was Abrahm Vredenburg, who married a Menominee after arriving in Wisconsin around 1840.

I am a descendant of David Fredenberg Sr. and David Fredenberg Jr. David Fredenberg Jr. was a brother of Herman, Ralph, and Louise to whom you refer to. Their father (David Sr.)and mother died shortly after the birth of the baby Louise. Many of the offspring of David Jr. moved to Milwaukee and lived their in the 1930 and their offspring continue to live in Milwaukee. Cook was the nickname of my grandfathers sister, and was one of eight children of David Fedenberg Jr. and his wife Amelia Barhke.
Herman Fredenberg married a Menominee. His son Herman Jr. although Menominee, lived in Window Rock, AZ as an employee of the BIA. I have much information on the descendants of David Fredenberg Jr., born in Wisconsin and who is buried in Shawano,WI

Re: Fredenberg Family of Wisconsin

Rebekah,
I do have some family folklore that might help - but so far I have not been able to validate any of it. My grandpa was Clarence F. Fredenberg (Fredenburg), born in Madison Wisconsin in 1906. Clarence was married to ?? Uphoff. Clarence's father was John Fredenburg.

According to my Dad, one of John's siblings married a Menominee Indian. His siblings must have been born 1870-1880 timeframe. I am sorry but I have not been able to trace any Fredenberg relatives thus far, but do know they originally came from NY & PA -- and possibly Holland & Germany before that. Some of the NY & PA Fredenberg's went to Canada and others went to Wisconsin. Apparently the family was quite inconsistent in the spelling of their name: Fredenberg, Fredenburg, Fredenburgh and Van Vredenburgh -- and a variety of other permutations.

In the early 1960's, my Dad took me to Lake Fredenberg near Shawano -- I believe it was actually on the Menominee reservation. He said that there was some connection to his Grandfather's brother. Do you have any information on Lake Fredenberg got its name? (It was very small and actually didn't appear on many maps.) I will pass on anything else that I learn.
