Hello,
Did you ever receive a response to your posting? If not, I would be happy to provide you with the information I have. I am descended from Christiana Jones and William Samuel Fredrick through their only child, Mary Ellen Fredrick. I am in contact individuals descended from his other wives so there is quite a bit of info.
If you have received info, did you attend any of the Fredrick family reunions in St. Jo, Texas? I was at one 3 years ago, lots of cousins were there! If you were there we probably met, but with so many I don't remember all the names.

I am another researcher on this Fedrick family with Alabama - Mississippi connections. I am doing the research for my sons who are descendants of Simeon Fedrick(b.1804, md to Sarah Jones, 23 Nov. 1823). I am trying to determine who Simeon's father might have been (Stephen?). I am looking fro a marriage for Jefferson Fedrick(b.about 1840. Family story says it was Margaret Ray. Their son, William, would have been born around Nov 1875. William married Rosa Lee Fairchild, b. abt. 1872.

Matilda Jane Fredrick of Robertson County, KY

This is NOT the Matilda that married William Medlin in Nicholas County, KY.
This IS the Matilda Jane Fredrick that was born to William and Nancy
Jane Hilander Fredrick in 1856.
She first shows up in the 1860 Fleming County, KY census.
My next record for her is a January 1, 1877 marriage to Lemuel Berry in Robertson County, KY. She uses the name Matilda J. Fredrick See. Mr. Berry is her second husband, and her first husband apparently died,
since she uses the name See. There are a handful of Sees around RobCo during the mid 1800s, but I haven't found a Fredrick-See marriage yet.
My third record is Matilda Frederick in the 1880 RobCo census, living with Alexander Sanders (Widowed or Divorced), and his 15 yr old son, William.
On April 3, 1882 in RobCo, Matilda Fredrick Berry married again
(with Alexander Sanders as surety) to James Bryant (24, born in Carter County, KY).
James and Matilda are in Jessamine County, KY in the 1900 census, with their granddaughter, Etta Helvey. Not sure where their daughter was, but record shows that she was still living.
James and Matilda are in Carter County, KY in the 1910 census.
James Bryant died in Carter Co. on November 2, 1919.
Matilda died in Carter Co. on January 27, 1943, and she is buried in Eagle Hall Cemetery, in the community of Soldier.
I have photos of all documents, and I'm still looking for info on her first husband, unk See. I will also try to find info on her daughter. If you would like copies, please email me at
jmichaelfrederick@hotmail.com . mike

Hi. I'm looking for info on a James Bryant, born about 1858 in Carter County, KY. His 2nd wife was my gg aunt. It was her 3rd marriage. She was born in Mason County, KY on 11/9/1856, as Matilda Jane Fredrick, d/o William and Nancy Jane Hilander Fredrick. James and Matilda were married in Robertson County, KY on April 3, 1882. Matilda's first husband was "unknown" See, and her second was Lemuel Berry. She died in Carter County on 1/27/1943, and was buried in Soldier, KY. She was a widow when she died. Any info would be appreciated. Thanks! mike jmichaelfrederick@hotmail.com

John, I work at the Greenwood County Historical Society in Eureka, Kansas and had a request to do a search on our county resources for John S. Fedrick/Fredrick and his family. In his obituary it states he was born November 17, 1799 in South Carolina, and died in his 85th year on April 1, 1884 in Salt Springs Twp., Greenwood County, Kansas. It also states he was a soldier in the War of 1812 in which he drew a pension, enlisting when a youth of fifteen. He migrated to Georgiathen to Tennessee where he was married and wherre all of his children except one was born. He was the father of 13 children, 7 surviving at the time of his death. From Tennessee he went to Missouri in 1856 and to Kansas in 1862, settling in Fall River, Greenwood Co., Kansas in 1865. His wife died in 1867, since which time he lived with his children. For some time prior to his death he lived with his daughter and son-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. H.D. Englehart of Casner Creek, wherre he died. This is also in Greenwood County, Kansas. For some reason beyond me, the person who wrote the obit. called John "Thos." in his last paragraph, which paid tribute to a great man and friend. The last sentence being, "Soldier, rest! Thy warfare's o'er." It does not give the place of burial, but we have found that people in Fall River, Greenwood County, Kansas sometimes were buried in either Wilson County, Ks. or in the North Pole Cemetery in Elk County, Ks. I believe it is the latter of the two. We are building a family file on this man and any info. you can send our way will be much appreciated. Our e-mail address is gwhistory@sbcglobal.net.

Update of information:
My gggrandfather William Samuel Fredrick was born ca 1820 in Alabama. He had a brother John N Fredrick who wrote him a letter I have during the civil war.
His son John Grant Fredrick born ca 1872 in Mays County, Kentucky had a brother Thomas Jones Fredrick and a half sister Mary Ellen Fredrick. They had a half brother William Fredrick.
Apparently William Samuel was married twice once to Ellen Fredrick and lastly to Martha Linsey.
I am looking for William Samuel's parents. Any help would be appreciated.

Hi,
I saw your messageboard postings. I am also looking for a William S. Fredrick, b. about 1820 in AL, married probably 3 different times.
William S. Fredrick age 43 and Christina Jones age 31 were married in 1863 in Pocahontas, Randolph Co., AR. I have a photocopy of the original marriage license. They had a daughter Mary Ellen Fredrick, born 1864, and Christina died in 1865.
I haven't found William S. Fredrick in the 1870 census, but in the 1880 census he was living in War Eagle, Madison Co., AR. In the household with him are: (no wife)
daughter Mary Ellen Fredrick (16) listed as housekeeping
son John Grant Fredrick (10) listed as farmhand
son Thomas J. Fredrick (6)

Living next door to William S. Fredrick in the 1880 census was his son William Fredrick, his wife Malissey J. Fredrick from TN, and 2 daughters, Mary I. Fredrick, age 3, and Malissey J. Fredrick, age 1.

Mary Ellen Fredrick was my g-grandmother. She married:
1st Lafayette I. Ponds (2 children)
2nd John Jackson Mays (my line) (3 children)
3rd William Nevins (no children)

My grandmother Lily Maye Mays was the daughter of Mary Ellen Fredrick and John Jackson Mays. Lilly Maye Mays married Thomas J. Simpson of Madison County, AR.

I am trying to trace both William S. Fredrick and Christiana Jones. The census records for their children list both parents as being born in AL.

The other information I have on William S. Fredrick concerns the Civil War. Corporal William S. Fredrick, Corporal George M. Jones, Sergeant Joseph B. Jones, and Private James J. Pond (father of Mary Ellen Fredrick's first husband), all joined Captain Ballard's 30-day Volunteers on Nov. 17, 1861 at Pitman's Ferry, Randolph Co., AR. They were released Dec. 17, 1861 at the same place. Since I can't find William S. Fredrick in the 1860 census, I am curious how he wound up in Arkansas in 1861. The other three men lived in Little Black Township, Randolph Co., AR.
Hello Rick,
Just wanted to let you know Landen Fredrick and I recently "found" each other through our research. We are related through his g-grandfather John Fredrick, and my g-grandmother Mary Ellen Fredrick, who were half-siblings and both children of William Samuel Fredrick, b. 1820 in (probably) Alabama. He had a brother John Grant Fredrick who lived in Missouri and fought for the Union during the Civil War. William S. Fredrick fought for the Confederacy.
