Lee was the chief of police in laporte until he retired in 1959. He was married to Marion and has a daughter still in Indiana, however he and his wife divorced. As Lee got older he drove people from Indiana to the airports in Chicago as an independent contractor. In the late 1970's he married my great grandmother Eva Jane Ringo (Root). They were married until his death in 2004. He was a wonderful person and I was fortunate enough to know him very well. I would be more than happy to speak with you.

I just found your post from 2001. Don't know why I never saw it before. It never came through to me from ancestry. Henry and Conrad were brothers so it sounds like you and my husband must be "cousins". We have never been able to find where their father Charles and mother Beda came from in Sweden, have you? Conrad's son Robert is my husband's father. We'd be very willing to share information. I AM NOT RELATED TO, NOR AM I RESEARCHING THIS FAMILY, I’VE ONLY DONE A COPY AND PASTE FROM OUR LOCAL NEWSPAPER FYI.

THIS INFO HAS BEEN POSTED WITH THE PERMISSION OF THE EDITOR OF THE COLUMBIA BASIN HERALD.

J. Lynn Fredrickson died Tuesday, Sept. 23, 2008, at Central Washington Hospital in Wenatchee. He died surrounded by his family. He is survived by his beloved and loving wife, Luella, his sons, Thomas and Timothy, his daughters, Carol and Lynne Marie and his nephew, Michael Chugg.

He was born in Declo, Idaho, March 8, 1925, to John Dory Fredrickson and Sabina Thorne. He was the second of nine children. He began working for a farmer by the time he was 13 years old, picking potatoes, haying and wheat harvesting. As an older boy he drove a school bus as most men had gone to war. During high school he was head of the ROTC.

After high school he and his cousin Cal Gibson joined the Navy so they could serve together. They were separated after boot camp, coming together several months later on an island in the Pacific. He was on the ship, Arctic, during the occupation of Japan. He had the opportunity to see Japan and Hawaii.

After the war, he worked for the Bureau of Reclamation where his back was broken when a blade fell on it. This caused him pain through most of his life.

He next worked for the Bureau of Reclamation in Jackson Hole, Wyo. His boss was married to the head of the school teachers in Jackson Hole, Wyo., and through her he met the new school teacher, Luella Lewis. They were married Nov. 3, 1951, in Seattle. Their twin sons, Tim and Tom were born in October of the following year. They moved to Moses Lake after the birth of their daughter Carol and their daughter Lynne Marie was born in Moses Lake.

He worked hard leveling land, being a part of making the Columbia Basin the agricultural giant that it is.

Lynn was a decent, hardworking man who was dedicated to his family. He attended every school event, Girl Scouts, umpired Little League, went on Boy Scout campouts, and drove horses all over the Basin for 4-H.

In his retirement years he learned to use the computer, got on the Internet, read voraciously, used a cellphone and as always fed the birds on his lake home. This was a man who did the very best he could, was a proud family man and was deeply loved by his family including son-in-law, Ken Best and Paula and Fred. He is well regarded and will be deeply missed.

In lieu of flowers, you are welcome to make a donation to the American Legion.

You may sign the guest book or leave a note for the family at www.kayserschapel.com.
Hi Tiffany,

My name is Chris Kennedy. I saw your post about the Fredrickson family name in Utah on the genealogy/ancestry website and thought I'd respond (even though it was several years ago).

I was adopted when I was a baby but my birth father's name is Fredrickson. I've been doing my genealogy and have found out I have ancestry going back to Utah into the 1800's with that name. So I consider myself a "Fredrickson," and I live in Utah coincidently. We might be distantly related.

Hope to hear from you in this holiday season.

Cordially,
Chris

Thank you for your offer to help. Regarding my earlier mention that the Fredricksons I am looking for are all related, I believe that my mother thinks that all of the LaPorte area Fredricksons are related. I understand that my grandfather Lee Fredrickson was attached to the Laporte Police Department in some way but we lost all track of him after he and my grandmother Marion Allen divorced sometime before 1945 or so. Thank you so much.

I´m sorry to say that all Fredrickson are not related.
Fredrickson is a patronymicon name, witch mean that he is son of Fredrick. The most Fredrickson came from Sweden, if spelling are (sen) instead of (son) in the end, they came from Denmark or Norway. The most common spelling in Sweden are Fredriksson but often it was change to Fredrickson then they come to US.
you make me curious, i vill see what I can find out about your Grandfathers origen.

Andi, my Fredricksons also came from Denmark in the late 1800's. I don't have the information in front of me but I do have some family records. My great grandfather was Christian Fredrickson, if that rings a bell. You can e-mail me at lindag@mstar2.net. We have dates and names but not much else. I am looking for any information on this side of my family as well. I would like to be able to go back further with the research but it seems to dead end. Hope to hear from you and perhaps find out we share common ancestors. Linda Garrett

Yes my name was changed also. On my birth certificate it is sen and on school records it is son. Seems as though my grandfather said it sounded more American. I was born durring the second world war. Grand father was born on a ship coming to America from Denmark in 1871. Doris

Nils Olaf Fredrickson Aahlen

My Grandfather was Nils Olaf Fredrickson Aahlen and came to the United States from I believe Stockholm,Sweden. He attended the University of Upsula and his parents were in Parliament according to my mother who is now deceased. His father was a judge or governor and was married and had three children-my grandfather and two twin daughters who died when they were quite young of scarlet fever. My Grandfather was a journalist for a swedish newspaper and moved to Minneapolis,Minnesota and married my Grandmother-Iona Brown. They relocated to Winnepeg,Canada and my uncle and mother were born in 1913 and 1915. When my grandmother died my Grandfather went back to Sweden around 1947 or thereabouts. He passed away I believe in 1958. I would like to see if we have any relatives or how to go about locating them. My mother died in 2000 and her only brother in 1998. My uncle was married but had no children and lived in Los Angeles,California. His wife died last week and we were not close enough for her to give us any information. Hopefully you can be of some help.
Thank you for your time-
Sincerely,
Valarie L Smith
PS (My Grandfather did change his last name to Brown when he came to the United States as he stated it was easier than Aahlen to spell and pronouce.)

No, unfortunately, I can confirm that we are NOT related. I have since learned that my Oscar is the son of an Andrew. However through some personal detective work I have made contact with some living relatives in Sweden!

Best of luck in your continued search.

~Jen

The Oscar Fredrickson you speak of, would this be Oscar Gordon Fredrickson born 1/9/1920 & died 12/2/2002 in Hennipen Co. Minneapolis, MN? Who married Margaret Dahlin?
I know nothing more at this time on this couple's statics. I do know that they had 4 daughters born to them. Diane, Debra, Doreen, & Denise. I do not know who is oldest, youngest, etc.
One of these women is my daughter's mother-in-law. And now shares a new grandson with me. This grandson is why I am researching this line.
My daughter's mother-in-law is flying in today from MN. I will ask her some questions for you if you care to post them.

Delila

Karina, I just spoke with my mother and confirmed that I have a link.

My great-grandfather Oscar Fredrickson was married to Ella Young (though I don't have further any info on her as of yet). They lived in Alpha, Michigan (Iron County) and also for a while in Milwaukee, WI.

Oscar and Ella's children include in order of birth, Myron (Polly) Fredrickson, my grandmother Eleanor (Carl) Elczuk, Gwen (Bill) Harling, and Donald (Gloria) Fredrickson. I have further information on their descendants and would be happy to share.

Email me anytime at jen.merkel@cox.net. I have no information on Oscar's descendants so of course I would love to find out more.

A geneaholic and your distant cousin,
Jen :)

Hi Karina! I am a direct descendant of Oscar Fredrickson who may be the one you refer to. I may be able to provide the info you are looking for, but I am not sure whether this is the same man who would be your ancestor's brother.

Oscar settled in Upper Michigan, town of Alpha near Crystal Falls. This is near Iron Mountain and Iron River where he worked on the railroad.

If you think this may be the same person you are looking for, please contact me - jen.merkel@cox.net.
Dear Jen ,

My apologies for the delay in responding.

Unfortunately, Iam not certain we are related:
My Oscar Fredrickson was born in Sweden "Oscar Olsson" and became Oscar Fredrickson when he emigrated to this country as a young man(prior to 1900). My Oscar was married twice, but I only knew of one daughter from his second marriage... nothing from a first family.

His parents were Johan and Anna Olsson and they are buried in Minnesota.

What do you think?
