I now have the family of John Friedt (b. 1-26-1801in PA & d, 12-13-1877 in IN), mostly worked out and mostly proven with Death Cert, Marriage record, Census, Obit and the reported history of Montcalm Co., MI.
John’s 1st wife – Lydia Zimmerman (b. 10-3-1804 in Westmoreland Co., PA and d. abt 1840 in Richland/Ashland Co., OH). To this marriage there were at least 9 children born (Jacob, Rebecca, Henry C., John, Lydia, George, Sarah B., Mary, & Samuel/Daniel - plus 2 more children who died very young).
John’s 2nd wife was Susan Moudy (5-10-1813 in PA and D. 12-31-1884 in IN). To this marriage there were some 6 children born. (Susanna, David, Jane, Samilla, Amilin & Luella).
Susan Moudy was married 1st to David/John Nelson and they had 2 children Wesley Nelson & Elizabeth Nelson.
Susan Moudy was the daughter of John Moudy. It is believed that she was the granddaughter of John Moudy (the Rev War Vet of MD) and Rosanna Holfman.
John Friedt‘s father was reported as Jacob Friedt of Westmoreland Co., PA
Now, I have found on the internet there was a Jacob Freed age 73, listed as a Vet of the Rev War living with Frederick Stafer in 1840 in Green twp, Richland Co., OH. This part of Richland Co., OH became Green twp, Ashland Co., OH by 1850.
In the 1850 Census for green twp, Ashland Co., OH, there is the family of Frederick Shaeffer, age 61, b. PA; with wife E. Shaeffer, age 54, b. PA and 3 children. Then living right next door is the Family of my John & Susan Friedt.
This leads me to believe that Jacob Freed/Friedt father of my John was living next to then in 1840 and that he died before 1850 and that Frederick Stafer/Shaeffer was Jacob son-in-law and that E. Shaeffer was Jacob’s daughter and my John’s older sister.
I would be happy to share info and I would very much appreciate any help anyone can give with establishing Jacob Freed/Friedt‘s family and who his ancestors were. Thanks, Ty Goodart
