Abraham Freehold in 1761

Cf.: July 2, 1761
Whereas a certain Abraham Freehold, alias William Roaney, did, on Monday, the 8th Inst., inlist as a private Soldier with Col. Samuel Hunt, of the New-Jersey Regiment, but pretending to have a Wife and Family near the Sign of the Buck, in Bucks County, hired a Horse, Bridle and Saddle of Benjamin Ketchem, living in Hopewell, with Intent to take Leave of his said Family; but, upon Enquiry, it appears he was an Imposter, having no Family near the Place: He is of pretty short Stature, has black Hair, one shoulder appears to be a little higher than the other, having been broke: He is an Irishman, and may be about 25 years of Age. He has often changed his Name, and was punished as a Deserter from the Pennsylvania Forces in the year 1756. The Horse hi is gone off with is about 14 Hands and an Half high, 6 years old, a dark Sorrel; is bald faced, and is a natural Pacer. He was seen last Monday night in Philadelphia. Whoever apprehends said Deserter, and secures him in any Goal, shall receive Five Pounds Reward; and if the Horse is secured also, so that the Owner may have him again, Nine Pounds Reward, and all reasonable Charges paid by
Col. Hunt, and Benjamin Ketchem.

I am not related to this family, I am just passing on this information, which comes from a book titled "Runaway Women, Elopements And Other Miscreant Deeds, As Advertised In The Pennsylvania Gazette - 1728 -1789.
