There are at least two Freels families-- originating in Ireland and Germany. Mine is the German one from the old Grand Dutchy of Oldenburg and the Bremerhaven area. My grandfather was Fredrich Hinrich Freels(Frels). There is also the spelling variation due to the overuse of the same first names in an area.
