I am trying to trace some ancestors as follows.
The Freemantle Clan have a solid foundation in and around the area of Winchester and Southampton.
I can trace my family back to James, born in Otterbourne Nov/Dec 1811. His wife was Charlotte Collins, b.1813 also in Otterbourne They had a farm at Romsey in 1851 of 81 acres, employing 4 labourers.
I believe, but am not certain that James had brothers, Andrew, b.1814 in Upham, George b.1809 and William, b.1807, and a sister Suzanna, b 1816. Can anyone confirm?
James certainly had a son George, b.1837 in Southern St Mary, a suburb of Winchester, and a daughter Charlotte, b.1836. Anyone know of any descendants from them?
I know that James’ Father, was Nicholas, married to Sarah. James’ brother William was born in 1809 which means, working back, that Nicholas may have been born around 1780 to 1790.
There is a Nicholas born 1781 in Bishops Sutton coincidentally also to Nicholas and Sarah, with sister Sarah b.1771, and brothers Henry b.1775 and William b.1763. I worry a little about the time spread of 18 years, but they are the closest match I can find. Any relatives anywhere?
Interestingly there is an entry in the 1851 cencus about Nicholas and Sarah living in Portsea, now Southsea, with Nicholas aged 77 and Sarah aged 73, which if true, is a terrific age. They could just about be James parents as it would make them born about 1774/8
Apologies for the long message.
